On way home anyway.
What a win
Bignot set up to take the game to them, and the risk paid off, Would Hurst have done that? I don't think so.
Well Plymouth despite the score line looked a decent team, I've certainly seem worse, just that we were better.
Everybody had a good game, real team performance, Summerfield was excellent so fair play to him, my MOM was Gowling
I'll go into more depth tomorrow
Good feeling coming home!

Plymouths just back
A grim day at the office.
A poor performance and result was always likely to happen at some point, it's how we react in the next game that matters.
There is no disgrace in losing to a very good Grimsby team, the first two goals came from two looping high balls into the penalty area that we didn't deal with and the third came after McCormick hesitated and allowed the Grimsby striker through on goal.
Adams tried to repeatedly change formations and tactics during the game but nothing worked and when he switched to 4-4-2 and replaced Tanner the game was gone, up until that point Tanner was our best player so once he was surprisingly subbed any attacking momentum went out the window, our attacks were about as rare as a Plymouth road with no roadworks on it!
Garita manfully tried to play the lone striker role but he's clearly not fit enough and not the battering ram we all wanted, to compound our misery Purrington finished the game with an injury, he's probably the only player after Carey we can do without.
Spencer suffered a broken ankle in training late in the week so all the match preparation undertaken during the week was disrupted.
Carey moved back into his central role and Tanner moved to the right side and it was he who had our best chances. We had the best of the first 20 minutes and should have been 2-0 up but Tanner hit the side netting from a tight angle and then had a goal bound shot blocked.
With Slew struggling to get into the game and Carey not at his best Grimsby took control of the second half of the first half. Unlike most visiting teams to Home Park Grimsby were willing to attack us, it did help us to counter attack but it also meant we had to defend well and we didn't.
On the stroke of half time Berrett put in a looping cross to the far post and there was Collins almost on the goal line jumping above two Argyle defenders to head in via the post.
We didn't really come out of the traps for the second half although Carey was starting to get more involved. It was Carey who had our first shot on target with a long range free kick that was easily saved. By now Adams had had enough of Slew and replaced him with Jervis, he played on the right, Tanner moved into the centre and Carey, as he did at Crewe, moved to the left.
Tanner was able to find space and looked our best player.
Just as Goodwillie was about to be brought on Grimsby extended their lead with a second goal, it was another high cross that we didn't deal with and Bogle headed in. 2-0.
Goodwillie then came on for Tanner and the team switched to 4-4-2. I can understand Adams changing his tactics but another player instead of Tanner should have been sacrificed.
Nothing much changed, we tried hard but the spark and energy just wasn't there.
The anonymous Garita was given the hook and on came Rooney. At the start of the day who would have predicted we would finish this game with a strike force of Goodwillie and Rooney?
Late in the game Grimsby scored a third when Songo'o played them onside, McCormick hesitated on a through ball and Bogle went around him and scored his second goal. Half empty Home Park became empty.
We should just put this behind us and move on. Obviously there will be talk of the team imploding as the class of 2015-2016 did but this bunch of players have more bottle.
We have three big strikers but none of them are fully fit, we have to hope that Garita can soldier through until either the transfer window or hope that Brunt returns early. Spencer is three months away from fitness. Carey was clearly frustrated during the match and often asked Garita to give more.
Donaldson did ok alongside Fox, Songo'o will make a mistake or two during a game and Bradley is not at his bullish best.
Hopefully Purrington is ok and will be able to play against Barnet. Let's hope Tanner also plays against Barnet, he deserves to after his performance today.
Man of the match - Tanner.
McCormick 4, Miller 6, Songo'o 5, Bradley 6, Purrington 7, Fox 6, Donaldson 6, Carey 6, Tanner 8, Slew 4, Garita 5. Subs - Jervis 6, Goodwillie 5, Rooney 5.
Well played Grimsby, backed by great and noisy support.

Just back to hotel , fantastic performance by all, brilliant support and even enjoyed Dave Banana (apparently their fans sing before the game instead of during it) looking forward to a night out in Plymouth despite it pissing down at the moment

First point - "Adams tried to repeatedly change formations and tactics during the game but nothing worked and when he switched to 4-4-2... Just reading their forum. Lots of praise for how we attacked and pressured them throughout the game. Few fans saying we have been the best footballing side they've played this year and expect us to be up there towards the end of the season.

Great to hear that. I listened to the game on the Plymouth player as MP was playing up for me and they were quite complimentary about us throughout.

Let's see where we are after December. Before Hurst left I thought we had a reasonable chance of back to back promotions. Now we've had this result from MB I admit I am struggling to keep a lid on it. You just can't argue with it, can you?
Very exciting times.

Spoke to lot of Plymouth fans, who all seemed extremely nice people, their overwhelming sentiment was one of happiness at seeing us return to the football league, I bet they aren't as happy to see us back now!
Joking asids, I thought the game probably wasn't a 3-0 game but we should something we failed to display under Hursty, ruthlessness. The goals came at good times, thought the keeper got himself caught in no man's land for the first as it was just a standard loopy ball hung up to back post by Berrett. Second was a great ball by Andrew, has MB finally found a way to get us looking genuinely dangerous from set plays? Omar's header still seemed to take an age to go in! Third goal was just the icing on the cake, keeper again misjudged and Omar capitalised and made sure!
MOM was Gowling, that tackle at one nil was massively crucial, perfectly timed and got it away from goal, he seems to finally have readjusted to the league. Can't remember him misplacing a pass or losing a tackle or header. I also thought Summerfield was excellent, didn't have "a Toto moment" and played some good balls and stuck his foot in well. Plus I thought Berrett's use of the ball was excellent, he just seems so much better as an advanced midfielder of three rather than out wide. Mills looked very assured if uttered exhausted in the last 10 minutes.
Anyway, long, long trip home now but at least it'll be enjoyable after three brilliant points at the league leaders. Bring on Carlisle

According to the BBC sport site, it was Josh Gosling and the win saw us move into 7th place and a play off spot. The BBC used to be so accurate.

Back at the b&b far too early but hit my wall as been up since 3am, getting far too old for post match partying. Is it just me or did Town totally boss that one? Never felt the result was in doubt on the day and Plymouth are certainly no mugs. I can't believe there were only 300 odd town in the crowd. What noise, what passion and how proud I felt to be part of it. This is starting to be the best for a long long time.

What a brilliant result. Always expect the unexpected with GTFC. It really is a great relief to be out of that awful, terrible Conference. Please God, our great club never finds itself there again. Whenever we have a good striker/CF we always do well -Ron Rafferty, Matt Tees, Super Jackie Lester and now Omar (who can only get better).

Well Marcus persuaded Omar to stay on at Solihull for another season when we first came knocking. Hopefully he'll be able to persuade Omar to stay here if anyone comes in for him in January.

Hope so but if a big offer comes in don't see how we can refuse it and he has to think of his career. We knew it would happen and why we invested the ££ at the time

I think Marcus' move here will help us hold onto Omar longer.
Unfortunately if an offer comes in for Omar, the decision to sell will not be in MB's hands. Got a nasty feeling that we had a warning about this at the Fan's Forum when JF stated that £300k has to be paid back to the bank. Went through my head again when we were knocked out of the FA Cup which ended any hopes of a money spinning third round tie, which would have been our only chance of raising that sort of cash. There's too much press about Bogle for there not to be a significant bid by at least one or two Championship clubs in January and by banging in the goals he's proving himself week by week. Omar would be a fool to stay while his stock is at its highest. Injury or a barren spell later he could miss the boat. I'd love us to be in a position where we could turn big money down but the cold hard facts are we're not. If the worst happens the best we can hope for is that JF pays the bank off and gives the rest to MB to build his own squad, find another rough diamond like Omar and strengthen other areas of the team too. A deal done and loaned back to see the season out would be ideal. It's not what we all want, but I think we need to be prepared for it..

I think you make a very good series of points there mate, unfortunately. If these events do indeed come to pass in January, then our only consolation might lay in hoping for some serious financial competition for his signature, meaning that we are able to offset the blow of the loss with several hundred thousand pounds at least. The thing to add though, is that there are some good strikers besides Omar in L2. If we asked for a big price, we might be able to deflect attention elsewhere, but, as always, much would depend on what the player wanted.
All of this is 'ifs and buts' though. For now, he's our player and doing brilliant!

Yeah sad to think about it really.
The only thing I will say is that if he plays well and scores a few more in the next few weeks, the offers will be in the seven figure bracket and maybe even starting with a two. Look at Kemar Roofe last season, £2.5m to Leeds. There's some serious dough in the Championship nowadays and some desperate clubs too..

Indeed, and if the player is happy to stay until the end of the season, Town could ask for silly money in response to any bids in January.

Just back to my B&B in devonport , (didn't make it past the Brittania, we played this lot off the pitch today , agree with Gowling M.O.M , that tackle was as good as I've seen in a long time , thought Macca dealt well on a soaking pitch with everything he had to . The rest of em fought for Everything and no one put in less than a 8+ performance . As ever the travelling fans gave awesome support . Cant wait for me full English . UTM

The £300,000 could just as easily be paid back if we were promoted to league one. I share everyone else's fears but just saying. It's a fraction of what Bogle is worth at the moment, never mind if/when he gets to 25+ goals.
In the meantime, happy to enjoy the fact we have one of the best players at Town for years.

Bignot is in for Akwasi Asante - whether or not Bogle goes.
Suffice to say I hope Omar stays.
Where there was Connell then there was Hearn and then there was Amond and Bogle.
It will all turn out ok.

The £300k debt to the bank is on a structured loan with a monthly repayment programme. I am pretty sure it is not up for repayment in one hit.
Perhaps a shareholder can seek clarification at the AGM.?

Definitely and we are in a decent position with him having 18months on his contract, but without extending it we won't be in a stronger position to sell than January. It would be great if we could extend it, then get big money for him in the summer. Either way we need to be looking for the next gem to improve. Whichever way you look at it, it's a hugely successful signing from Hurst and Fenty, he scored massively important goals and his sale will surely see the club make a monster profit on him.

If we sold Omar Bogle for 300k after Roofe went for £2.5m then Fenty deserves lynching outside the Town Hall.
Say what you like about Fenty though, we've more often than not got a good deal for our players.

I we continue to do well, attendances will rise, as will gate receipts. Let's repay the bank in that way!

Fenty is an astute businessman he will want to keep his most valuable asset until the time is right.
Wish people would stop speculating on Bogz departing. He is still under contract, as a manager who respects him and unless stupid money is offered could easily be the catalyst of another promotion winning side.
This would generate more income, gates are on the up so why would Fenty want to ruin this??

We should not stand in Omars way of progressing to a higher level, BUT He is still in his development ( Marcus words ) So we will keep him for a bit longer and if we get into L1 and then hopefully the championship, Omar will find himself been coveted by the really big teams, Marcus will also be on a few really big clubs radar as well, Such is life, Lets not worry about things just yet we should enjoy the ride.

Agree with your assessment. I believe MB will already have identified a couple of non league strikers to bring in and if a big enough offer comes in and he can get the replacement on board it will go through. Its a window of opportunity we cant turn down if he keeps scoring like he is. If things go pearshaped through injury, loss of form.etc

Got back at 11pm Had recorded channel 5 thing and watched goals Long day but so pleased went Mills followed by Gowling for me but all players where beyond any criticism today on what was a very very wet day Some great tweets on the GTFC tweet thingy from Plymouth fans saying we where the loudest and best fans they had heard for years Great Time to be a town fan and although I can't make Tuesday will listen to second half on Mariners player and hope MB and the lads make the most of this fantastic momentum from today Lastly after my post from the leisure centre after the game got talking at length to some Plymouth season ticket holders and they said we where the best side they had seen at Plymouth this and last season They did not expect us to play as we did and they expected us to park the bus As Bristol R will probably state in this league and possibly league one, teams are beatable and games are winnable with the effort and passion and skill and determination shown yesterday by this MB team Long may it continue and as a fan I will now dream of what can be achieved let's hope that Tuesday night we don't come back to earth with a bump Well done to all concerned on another fantastic day of been a town fan

Don't worry mate , flash was calling it a day about the sametime , he said he was tired when infact he was totally trollied ,he can't remember dancing at the Taverners or singing 'up the mariners ' on the mic , but what a great weekend .
