Donation to Dave Smith's fundraiser instead is a great idea. Wouldn't have gone anyway but will chuck some money in anyway.

Why does it take guts, it's only a football match? If i was going i'd say so and if fans want to go then that's up to them. I think they are wrong if they do but it's their decision.

I wouldn't have a go at anyone who is going. It is their right. Just as I wouldn't 'picket' the home games either. I have my views, but won't be trying to impose them on anyone else. As long as those who have said they will stay away, do so, then I think the board will get the message.

A boycott will not make a shred of difference to the set up, but if people want to show their disapproval then that is their choice. Could be cutting your nose off to spite your face though. Our team is in this competition whether we like it or not and deserve support to try to win a game of football.

Davec..how old are you?? 5?? Because that's what you come across as.

Seeing if anyone has the guts to owning up to going?? Really???

Regardless of the rights/wrongs of competition it's perfectly understandable those making a choice to attend. You or anyone else has no grounds to belittle or question that decision. I personally suspect every club will have supporters going, albeit low in numbers. It was never going to be a case of no-one attending. Won't make a jot of difference to you whether people go or not. Leave them to it and stop point scoring. Or trying.

I'm not going to any of the games in the comp but i will still be interested to see how town do and will be listening. I will still cheer if they score. Point is to vote with your feet and not give them the click at the turnstyle. I would even be up for paying the admission price of the home games if they made the price a £10 special straight into a fund or to the trust aslong as it wasnt counted as an attendance as obvs short term the club will be making a loss financially even if it was around the 1000-2000 mark per fixture and its obvs not the clubs fault. Well it is as they voted in but you know what i mean we still dont want gtfc to lose out cashwise if that makes any sense whatsoever!

These cup competitions have generated the clubs income around 6 to 8 hundred thousand pounds in the last 6 seasons. It is also a one year trial that maybe scraped if the vote goes the other way. Only two teams voted against the  proposal I believe out of 72. UTM

And I hope you get to see my team win. I also hope that as you are sat in a virtually empty stadium you realise the real depth of feeling from the vast majority of supporters of most teams regarding this disgrace of a competition.

More than two have already come out and said they voted against, so which ones are lying to their fans?

I see you allude to a vote at the end of the competition determining its future, how are clubs going to decide whether it's been a success or not?

Imagine a world where the fans are consulted on these decisions. Or a football club who values the feelings of football fans more than profit. Let them get their foot in the door with the B teams in the Trophy now and then watch them use it as an excuse for them to devalue the lower leagues of English football by putting there B team in the league. The league will wave big money in front of the directors at first but in a few years time they will end up cutting this money when we are playing Swansea B team. How is this the cure for the problems with English football?

This is what it seems neither you nor your brother get!

This IS NOT 'these cup competitions', this is Harvey and the Premiership messing with lower league football for their own gain and clubs like ours ultimate loss.

John and his colleagues have shown they can be bought, fans will unite for the ultimate defeat of the destruction of lower league football

Not the first time the owners of GTFC have misjudged the strength of feeling. Guess Mr Harvey and his pals put on a slap-up gala dinner in Portugal to sell this to the massed ranks of club owners on a freebie.

So intercourse what the fans want then!!!  without fans Sonic there is no club.

Will you be happy for our club to play in a league made of of premiership B teams? Oh the joy of visiting Hull city training complex! because that's where all this is heading but then you probably know that. To rip apart our football heritage in order to make a few quid is alright with you then as you clearly know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

In another 6 seasons that money could be useless when we lose our place in the league to Celtic, Rangers or Stoke Reserves. Allowing premier league B teams to enter proper competition is the start of a series of events that threatens the existence of unfashionable clubs like Grimsby Town.

It will be interesting to see how many go to Walsall. The Fishy readership seem dead against it, it will be an interesting test of how representative the regular contributors are. How many of the Great Unwashed go, some of whom never even cast an eye on fans sites like the Fishy, remain to be seen.

To be a relation of the maker of this truly unpopular decision and quite frankly come on the team's unofficial forum to basically goad the fans that are its lifeblood and provide the majority of the club's income for your brother to spend on our behalf, I find it really distasteful at best and is another example of the disdain that your group show to one of the most loyal and patient fanbases in the country.

As you have self corrected..it is entirely the clubs fault...they formed part of the "yes" vote.....look at Harvey's potential Celtic/Rangers invitation to join the league.....disastrous for lower league teams south of the border...potentially terminal for some teams north of the border.....purely financial all ways up.....nothing to do with good of the game, increase benefits to English clubs or the English game...its just potential increase in TV/Attendances/Sponsorship none of which will benefit teams like us apart from maybe the two games in the only season we play them as they fast track to the Premiership.

These cup competitions have generated the clubs income around 6 to 8 hundred thousand pounds in the last 6 seasons. It is also a one year trial that maybe scraped if the vote goes the other way. Only two teams voted against the  proposal I believe out of 72. UTM

We havnt played in this competition for the last 6 seasons, the only reason the equivalent FA Trophy has generated the club income is because we pretty much started the competition as a favourite and have progressed to finals so accumulating cash along the way with a big Wembley pay off.

We are not favourites in this, the format has changed dramatically and ....regardless of the clubs financially biased outlook....a certain proportion of the fans arent going to put up with Premier League interference, so no matter how far we progress there will be reduced income for the club at every stage as fans arent going to go...and i hope in their hundreds if not thousands.

I truly hope every "yes"  club are left with egg on their faces on this one.

If, and it's a big if, this competition succeeds, it represents a green light to introduce B teams into the lower leagues such as they do in Spain and Portugal, therefore reducing the number of places in these divisions. So for lower league club owners to back it is a bit like turkeys voting for Christmas.

i feel for those fans that haven't missed a game in 'X' amount of years, just so proving that Harvey and the clubs (that includes Fenty et al) don't have the supporters interests at heart.

The Premiershit has an over glutinous approach when it comes to money with players being paid an annual salary every week. The commercialism is fu(King ludicrous and most of these teams supporters have no idea on the complexity of being a football supporter. The fact that grass roots football is being left to rot is a travesty when most of these clubs have 'academies' for players as young as 8!

I'll be really disappointed to see anyone go. Its mind boggling how people don't see this as a threat or perhaps they are happy to see the club playing B Teams on a regular basis

I had quite a large metal splinter embedded in my finger that needed cutting out as it had gone quite deep. I used a new sharp craft razor to cut open my finger to remove the metal splinter. It was quite painful but I soon got over it as I am a big boy.

Metal splinter = Premiership B teams
New sharp craft razor = loss of income
Big Boy = One of the biggest clubs in League 2 so should handle a minor loss of income to understand WTF will happen if it becomes acceptable to become yes men for the Premier league.

Maybe = unless there is a revolt against this idea it will become the norm.

Do you and John really want Premiership B teams in the league, be honest.

The only reason I can begin to forgive JF for years of mismanagement is that I always thought he was a fan himself. This whole sorry affair shows that he no longer cares about the supporters. Take him to Portugal,  offer him a few quid and he's anyone's.

For what its worth I don't want that to happen. No! Not sure of John's stance but will ask him shortly. What ever our club voted we would still be playing in this game tonight. People that know me or John for that matter will surely not think that we are not proper Town fans with the best interests of our club at heart. UTM!

Well Sonic it is a) just a shame your brother never consulted the fans ..you know..the ones who actually are relied on and the reason the club keeps things going. Not one person.

And b) just shows how far and out of touch with reality you and he is. Again this was a decision taken that wasnt about the best interests for the clubs or its support.

Guess you wont like this, nor he. Truth hurts

What a flipping cop-out!!!!
if the club had shown some leadership and actually stood up for the fans against this ridiculous decision others may just of followed.

You asked for an answer and a swearing cop out is the reply. 72 clubs, 2 or I may now believe 8 against the proposal. It was only a show of hands and some are now saying they are against it. This is a trial year for this format.

Not remotely relevant though is it? We would, of course, still have been playing this fixture but then the competition wouldn't have represented a threat to the FL system as well as a threat to clubs such as ourselves. As it is we stand on the cusp of having our footballing existence demeaned and trivialised and only through incredibly low attendances at these games do we have any say in our futures. You can bet your bottom dollar that if there is anything positive to take from introducing the reserve teams that the men at the top will clutch at it and force through the introduction of the Old Firm and reserve teams in to the FL. I don't want to watch us play Celtic and I certainly don't want to watch us play a load of kids who can't even make the bench at Middlesbrough. In an ideal world we'd have the men in charge of our clubs standing up for the club's and our interests but they've once again demonstrated how out of touch they are. Sadly, as we can't count on your brother to do the right thing, this means the only avenue left is to boycott games. Nobody is doing that lightly as it isn't the players' faults and I certainly wouldn't call out anyone who chooses to support Town in these games. However, I would say that to not boycott these games you must either be pretty short sighted or, in the case of you and your brother, completely out of touch with the vast majority of FL fans.

Thank you for your honest reply, and it will be interesting to here if John feels it would be good for Premeirship B teams to join League 2.

If his answer is no, why did he think it would be ok for Premiership B teams to play in a competition for Leagues 1 and 2.  A competition that was part of our first visit to Wembley, one that we deserved because we beat real teams.

Dave.

Sadly I can't go as I'm away that week but it staggers me to believe that any chairman/owner/major shareholder would ever contemplate allowing Prem B teams into any competition - it must have been a bloody good sales pitch after some serious vino.

Quite ironic really that a roll call for a Town away game on The Fishy will have the most replies on it, even though it will probably be our lowest away attendance for several years.

In fact there's probably more replies on this thread already than will actually be at the game.

Support the team but do it from home. Its not the players fault this has happened. But the only way to stop this idiotic situation is to never set foot in a stadium hosting trophy football
