Well not really a rumour but.... I was told by a friend today that he was told by a source from high within the club that if their had been a chairman in place then the duo would have been given the boot by now!

PLEASE do not shoot the messenger.... I think it's bullshit TBH and would be apalled if that happened. I have no idea if this info is reliable as he has never given me any before.... Just wondering if anyone in the know has heard something similar?

IMO unless Mourinho is ready to step in then it would be a shocking decision to get rid after less than a season in charge! Let's be honest where has it got us in the past few years?

I firmly believe that given time these two will get us back into the league! (At least I think I do)

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Last season when I was arguing that Neil Woods should be given at least the rest of the season someone (I think it was 80's Glory) asked whether I thought he should be given the time regardless of Town's position. At the time I said "Yes" because I didn't believe that Town would drop down the B.S.B to the point where they would be serious candidates for a further relegation.
Given that this season Town are lower in the league than at any time last season do you, or anyone else for that matter, think that they should be kept on if our flirtation with B.S. North becomes a real concern?
It's a genuine question because I think that it shows not only the psyche of the average football fan but also in a time when success is everything the problems facing boards of directors across the country even world....

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Dapperz wasn't you one of the loudest on here about how shite NW did and how WE shouldn't be in such a lowly position (just outside the play-offs or at least mid table) and playing shite...???

Now you're trying to tell us these two aren't doing bad...??? Wow that's some turn around in what you accept as OK... Please tell me what part of hanging aound the lower reaches of this shithole league we find ourselves in is OK...???

Fair enough I can understand and accept a manager may not do well when they are left with a load of shite players midway through a season but these two have signed the majority of the players we have now and we are further down this league than we ever where last season...

Seen as it states in the title "RUMOUR" if you are so sick of reading "bullshit rumours" why open the thread in the first place...

I wanted Neil Woods out, despite him seemingly having us on the right track,i don't think we would ever have been more than a mid table side under him.Safe and predictable with him perpetuating the same problems that got us into this mess.Namely, thinking journeymen ex league players was the way forward when it clearly wasn't.They were good enough to keep the side safe, but the fire in their bellies had long since gone out.

We have been paying ex league players far too much money for not very much return and it has been going on for years. There was some discussion on this board a couple of years ago about trying younger, hungrier players and i think that is what these two are trying to do,with a few more experienced players here and there.

The problem is that we have to go backwards to go forwards and it will take time before they get the experience needed at their new level to compete for the title.

We will also need to bring in some more players yet and i fully expect most,if not all of Woods signings to be out the door by next year.Energetic players like Green and Townsend, with a point to prove are the way forward and i think the days are numbered for the likes of Ridley. He's a decent player but just doesn't have the energy required.

I think we are doing what we should have done a while back,my only proviso being that there's no guarantee that these two will pull it off,but if we don't give them the chance,we'll never know.

Rome wasn't built in a day. I'm hopeful we can sign Townsend until the end of the season in January as well as Green (if he proves his fitness) and Panther.  Hopefully we can finish the season well and strengthen the team furthermore in the summer.

Tough one mate....... If it genuinely looks like we could be relegated withno sign of improvement then the Board would seriously have to look at it...... But I can't see that happening!

IMO there are definate signs that we are heading in the right direction, we have a young squad, this was always going to be a transitional season despite all of us praying for a promotion push. They were always going to need time to gel!

The managers are learning too and I Like the fact they are identifying problem areas and rectifying them instead of stubbornly sticking with players who just aren't cutting it. They have also shown they can admit to their mistakes, for example keeping on Duffy and Makofo after after they impressed in pre season when being told they could find another club and giving I'Anson and Thanoj another go after offering them out on loan. I'Anson especially has shown what a solid defender he can be.

I honestly think that unless relegation is a genuine possibility then they should be given time to build a successful squad!

That's a given for any manager thouhg! They shouldn't be considered for replacement until at LEAST 2 years in charge of a squad IMHO. How can anyone expect there to be progress with so little game-time with brand new surroundings, players etc? It's ludicrous to think they should be sacked already, absolutely ludicrous.

Fair enough I can understand and accept a manager may not do well when they are left with a load of shite players midway through a season but these two have signed the majority of the players we have now and we are further down this league than we ever where last season...

i agree its not going as well as i would like but firstly imo woods would struggle to run a bath imo,he continually brings up bennett and barlow and how he brought them on which is total bollox.bennett came here on advice and was already standing out and basically went straight into the 1st team squad and barlow went to hull on the advice of watkiss you know the guy who reccomended heywood so a lucky one there for us.woods liked old pros like peacock who ive drank with in the plough on several occassions who said he was to nice for a manager i could go to more detail but i think you get the script.
onto the present managers yeh i think tactically theyve been poor however having said that i think there wising up and improvement is showing all be it slowly and some of the players theyve brought in dont look good enough however the youngsters and loaness do look good enough so clearly they do have an eye for a player ,which leads me to think the future next season basically could be good.....so in short with woods we would hever got back into the football league while the dock tower is still standing with hurst and scott i still think we will match last seasons finish and next year push into the top 5 and trust me when i think differently about these 2 i shall tell you

This doesn't even sound like a rumour. It just sounds like something your mate reckons might have happened. Someone's opinion rather than a rumour.

One thing that I dislike but secretly admire about the duo is the quiet demeanier of Hurst and the nasty shoutier side of Scott, one knocks them down and the other picks them up if required, I get the impression that if they are not worth the picking up they will be shown the door whoever they are a refreshing change in attitudes for this club.
Time will tell but I think given time we are on a winner with these two

My feelings too.

They have already built two promotion winning sides, and given time here I am sure they will do likewise.

You might be onto something there mate..... "Scott and Hurst Opinion" doesn't quite have the same ring to it though!

Fair enough Dapperz... I don't disagree that NW was a nice guy, not sure he is too nice for football management but if that's what you've been told by players then I can't really argue about it... Not saying they are wrong but could they have had an axe to grind??? i.e Peacock wasn't in the first team and was told h wouldn't be getting a contract at the end of the season...

I know i'm not going to convince you or anyone for that matter but I do think NW would have done well in the end... I admit his first season in this league didn't go exactly how I wanted it too but I genuinely believe he had managed to get a platform to build upon for this season... He would have had a full season in this league behind him, assessed his squad and got rid of anyone who wasn't up to it hopefully...

Now like I said I know we're never gonna agree with the manager all the time about who is up to the job and who isn't but by the pure fact he had us within the top 10 for pretty much the whole season and was close to breaking in to the play-offs a few times...

Just out of interest what do the players say about these two...??? Obviously if you can and you're not gonna get any excrement for it, it would be intersting to know... If you don't want to post on here then PM me...

The only thing really lacking in this team is confidence. OK there are positions that could be improved maybe but all teams are like that - even Barca's coach will be thinking the same - but the basic squad is good enough to do well in this league.

Anyone who didn't see the move that we nearly scored from in the first few minutes at Port Vale should watch the video. That was as good as any side in BSP or L2 can do. The defending was good, the effort has been good pretty much all season so far. If the players got a run of results the rest of the BSP would hold no fears for Town.

These managers may not be the best ever but they are doing what the fans asked for all last season and the season before and ........ they have got together players who really do want to play for GTFC and they do put in a shift. At our level you can't ask for much more than that. Given our situation on and off the field this is the best management we could have at the moment. I just wish we'd had someone with their abilities appointed when Newell fell off his stool.

The back four didn't live up to reputations early on and have struggled to keep clean sheets - several different permutations haven't done the magic "gelling together", thus the team underperform due to goals against.

The physicality of sides has probably shocked fans as we just haven't competed properly in some games.

Also take into account teams like Gateshead and their ability to draw in Premiership reserve / youth players on loan from just up the road.

Two more Conor Townsend clones somwhere would perk the whole team up - could Jamie Green (fit again) be the other left sided midfield link to produce fast play / centres to feed the strikers?

Is Manny Panther the physical strength in midfield needed when fully match fit ?? - only time and good results from future games will tell.

Concentrate on more clean sheets for now - makes everything else so much easier!

Scott and Hurst - both very ambitious.... and won't be happy with poor results.... come on !!..... they want success badly to go on to the next stage of their own development... but they've found it's not quite as easy as the last two years this time !!

They have removed virtually a full team of expensive loan players and those at the end of their careers, started to trust more in some of the younger players and are beginning to tighten up the back four... individual mistakes will still happen, and luck is also needed as in the last 20 minutes of the Port Vale game,,, but I bet there was one hell of a team atmosphere in the away dressing room at 5pm !!

Cheers for that Dapperz... Reasures me a bit, I was thinking it looked like the managers had lost the dressing room a bit...

I still think these two have a lot to prove and the start they've had is awful... If the training methods are good, the players are behind the managers and no-one is taking the urine, then what is the reason for our poor start...???

I can understand the time for players needing to settle etc but surely we would have seen some signs of it by now if it was just that...??? Maybe the players they've signed aren't good enough...??? Maybe we have just been unlucky...??? Is it the managers are poor tactically...??? Maybe we have turned the corner with the Port Vale result...??? although I doubt it and it would need to be backed up with 5 - 6 more good results and solid defensive performances to argue that is the case...

Anyway, again I appreciate your comments but for me i'm still unconvinced with PH and RS... Maybe it is partly their fault for the way they came in and said this that and the other and we are yet to se most of their promises come to fruition...

Haha... Wasn't expecting answers, just pointing out some of my questions... Not overly confident shouty wouldn't tell you to fack off if you tried telling him how to do his job as well, so perhaps best leaving it even if you did know the answers...

Whoa Whoa Whoa dry your eyes sweetheart, take a deep breath and stop shaking and I will try and explain this a simply as I possibly can...... You see what I did was, and this is quite clever, is put a brief description of what the thread contained in the title so anybody reading it could then make an informed decision as to whether they wanted to read on. So hopefully by reading the title "Scott and Hurst Rumour" then one would imagine that the main point of the article would infact be a rumour about Scott and Hurst that I had heard. So if I wasn't interested in reading supposed 'bullshit' rumours then I would ignore that thread!!

I can imagine how this would difficult to understand so I have devised a small test for you ok.....

If I was a vegetarian and I came across a thread entitled "Free dead animals for you eating pleasure" would I......

A) Read the article knowing full well that in doing so would upset/offend or annoy me.
      Or
B) Ignore it.

If you chose A then well done..... Your a moron!!! If you chose B then your still a moron but may just have learnt something. Unless of course your a person who seeks confrontation and read the article purely so you could whinge and moan about it and feel big and special behind your computer screen..... Hhhmmmmmm sound familiar?

Right now settle down and mummy will be along shortly with some warm milk and some fresh pants!

Unless of course your a person who seeks confrontation and read the article purely so you could whinge and moan about it and feel big and special behind your computer screen..... Hhhmmmmmm sound familiar?

Right now settle down and mummy will be along shortly with some warm milk and some fresh pants!
