GRIMSBY Town midfielder Anthony Church has today joined Alfreton Town on loan until January.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Mariners from Boston United in the summe,r has lost his place to Andi Thanoj in recent games.

Joint boss Paul Hurst wants to get the Londoner more match action and insists the aim of the temporary switch is to aid the player's development and not a pre-cursor to a permanent move to the side managed by former Mariners boss Nicky Law.

He could make his Reds debut in Saturday's FA Cup first round tie with Carlisle but Town are blocking any FA Trophy appearance next month.

Bit odd considering he was "the first name on the team sheet" according to one of the managers only a few weeks ago. Not that I disagree with loaning him out as he's not exactly set the World on fire.

Can`t be worth much at the tribunal, one not playing for the first team and one loaned out

Expected this. He's not up to the level required. If this can be followed by a decent replacement then I'm back on board for the season.

Seems like i'm the only one whos thought he looked pretty decent, especially at York! Now we have ourselves in a situation where we have a couple of central midfielders, one being Thanoj who for me isn't even better than Church.

I thought he had the rudimentary ability to settle in at this level n do a job for us. Maybe he's regretting staying up north n turning pro?

A strange one this, unless they've plans to bring someone else in, or use Bradley Wood there.  Church for me has disappointed, but this loan leaves us short if we get injuries.

Then again the players stepping up a level with Braintree seem to have adjusted quickly and well to this level!
