Our college is in trouble and so is the Institute.

The new building is wholly funded by Higher Education and as such only university students can access it.

There is also a new principal there whose phrase appears to be "if you don't like it, don't come." Before you say it, this is actually driving out the good staff and the decent students. Although under Mr Khan the college was nothing spectacular, it is going to get a whole lot worse under the new principle who is on a cost cutting exercise.

As for NELC, they couldn't give a monkeys about about football locally.

The college is living within its means at long last. The troubles it has today are largely the result of Khan doing nothing spectacular ........... which proved to be incredibly expensive.

The council as such cannot give a monkeys even if it wanted to without some councillors actually proposing something. We have been living in hope that Coun Fenty might have persuaded some others that a joint venture with the club would be mutually beneficial but apparently he must keep his footy and his politics in separate briefcases. Even so, if the council and the club agreed on a site for a new ground that included community facilities, there would still have to be private money involved. There is no good reason for an elected council to bail out a private company with taxpayers' money.

“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”

If the real truth of loss making businesses that Khan strted up for his "empire", then you'd know not to touch them with a bargepole. the current cost cutting is a save face to get them back on an even keel - ask any employee how their working conditions have dramatically changed for the worse over the last year.

I now have a wife that took redundnacy prior to being hounded out like several others there by slow deterioration of work processes, changes to contracts without recourse and wanting 4 days work inside 3 days of delivery time, with all prep work done at home in your own time, or face disciplinary actions.

The boss's job currently on offer @ £45000 + is the result of someone being slowly moved until their job was untenable.

If they had no Indian or Chinese paying students, there would be no Institute !

If people in colleges don't like it then leave. Grimsby institute is no different to any other education establishment up and down the land. Everyone is making cutbacks, particularly regulated services and those that offer FE and HE services too. Much of the college was in trouble because of Kahn and his crooked dealings and hairbrained ideas...things will get worse all over before they get better.

We've had to tender our contract with the Yjb three times in 18 months because they constantly want to to save money, beds etc.

Getting back to town, the college already is linked to some extent with gtfc and I think it's happy with it's involvement. We all know private investment is the only way forward with town, but again, is there anyone silly enough to invest in a football club?

If the worst case scenario did come true, would we still have a fishy ?

A novel idea, a football forum dedicated to a club that no longer exists. Might actually take off, the pessimistic b@stards that populate this board would have nothing to moan about at 4.45 on a Saturday and we could all have our rose tinted monitors and rattle on about how great it was to be a Town supporter.

We would probably all be posting on GBFC.co.uk, or whatever it's called.

Funny Chris as I was thinking the same thing! No club, no fishy, plenty of cry!

I'd wager that the vast majority of the pessimistic b@stards that populate this board haven't set foot near BP in many a long year.  I supose everyone is entitled to an opinion in our democracy but I really struggle with the concept of pouring the criticism based on newspaper/net forum reports ala STB and others.  If you've turned your back on the club that's your prerogative, but surely by doing that your opinion lessens?  He is funny mind.

Loads of councils have supported their local football teams, Chesterfield, Doncaster and Hull are local teams who have had strong support in building nice stadiums and are on the up.

We need the support of NE Lincs Council, does not have to be finacial help, just support in finding new land oppertunities, working together to attract new business and oppertunities to the area, this would help Grimsby as a whole.

Hull was/is exceptional though Ian because of the windfall from Kingston Communications.

Maybe but all 3 examples show varying degree of how local authorities back their local club
