Just a thread to gather how widely spread the members of this forum are. You certainly don't need to be specific about where you live, but feel free to give as much detail as you like, even where you keep the spare key and when the house is empty if you feel like describing your perfect garden ornaments or expensive household items that I definitely have no intention of taking.

I currently live on Pinewood Crescent at Bradley Park. A nice place, if a few unruly people nearby that take pleasures in smashing cars up and walking down the street drunk off of their minds at 3am.

Humberston but moving to near Brigg quite soon, and Leamington Spa in the week.

Dumfries & Galloway!! Stunning part of the world but plagued by midges!! Have a mate who owns a farmhouse near Carsphairn, so up there often. Is there anyone scottish though - all his neighbours are English (+ one American).

I thought I had seen the end of the world. Desolation, Isolation, Destruction, Mutants and the end of Civilisation.
Turns out bloody Tom Tom had directed me through Scunthorpe City Centre.

Lovely for sure, but I just couldn't cope with the spiders they have.
Saw a TV programme where a British couple were house hunting in Oz and they were looking round a pretty nice house when this fooking enormous spider ran out from something across the floor. I just thought Fook. That.   I'm a wuss I know!

Good idea mate, that'll help you make your mind up.
And you never know what might come up here before then.
Exciting though mate if you do decide to go for it

I was only answering the original question.....

Now, if I was to mention that our overnight low last night of 18C (at 4am) was 1C below average and that we are still in Winter - then that might be considered showing off. Oops

They'd have to extend the M18 by a hell of a long way to get to Scotland Jock.

I was only answering the original question.....

Now, if I was to mention that our overnight low last night of 18C (at 4am) was 1C below average and that we are still in Winter - then that might be considered showing off. Oops

In a couple of months time the humidity will suddenly return - and it will get HOT and pretty difficult to live with - think It Aint Half Hot Mum and your on the right lines. Oppressive heat, especially for a pom, but once you get used to it, it's amazing (cyclones threat notwithstanding).

It's funny how we (English) imagine Australia as a place full of nasties.

The reality, however, is that you very rarely see anything that is dangerous, especially in urban areas. Most houses have security screens at all windows and doors which mean that, more often than not, there are less insects in your house in Oz than there are in the UK. We do tend to have a few resident geckos, but they don't intefere with anything, apart from leaving little poos, and they feed on the few insects that get in anyway. Up here, tiny ants can be more of an issue than spiders, in that they seem to be ever present - especially in older houses.

Snakes  don't tend to make themselves visible - they are more scared of us than we are them (allegedly) - although I wouldn't fancy keeping birds in a cage, as that seems to attract snakes. We do have crocodiles around these parts - but they only ever seem to attack idiots. Sharks too, but they are predominantly on the outer GBR rather than mainland beaches or the inner bits of the reef. We do have nasty mozzies up here but our university/tropical medicine team are working to eradicate the dengue mozzie (hopefully moving on to maleria (which we don't have) next).

The worst animal pests here are cane toads (because they are ugly and toxic) and jellyfish. Funny that nobody ever says "I couldn't live in Australia, too many jellyfish" yet they are more annoying than any of the other nasties that inhabit the far north. Not an issue anywhere else (not warm enough down south) but stingers seriously impede access to, and enjoyment of, our beautiful tropical beaches.

Fair call, a tropical climate isn't for everyone.

We have friends up in Angus. Seems to me like they just don't get a summer but for the very occasional hot day. 11 1/2 months of cool to cold with lots of drizzle - horrible. Give me hot and sweaty any day

Talking of weather,

I love the English climate, we do not have more than 2 days the same,

When I was young , I loved the hot weather, now I like it mild but dry, with a spot of rain at night for the garden.

St Christophers Road mate. Love it round here.

I moved from Macaulay Street which now has daily burglaries, people with tattoos on their faces, tracksuit wearing chavs, people in the shop in their dressing gowns and spit all over the floor. Not being snobby but I'm delighted I got out of there. It never used to be like that.

My brothers street in Cleethorpes is getting that way and he's in despair.Thinks he'll have to move from the house we grew up in and were born in.He inherited it from my parents after my Mam had inherited it from her parents.

The house has been in the family forever and he is very sad to have to let it go because of the chavs, pit bulls, dogshit and feckless fornicators who sit on sofas in the front drinking all day.He daren't leave the house for any length of time.

Sad really.Every time one of the old characters shuffles off this mortal coil,a young couple with tattoos and endless kids move in.It's a vicious circle as they drive down the prices and that makes them attractive to landlords, who buy them and fill them with more undesirables and the prices keep dropping.

My brother has a lovely, well kept house and it would be worth 100,000 up the top end of Meggies but he's had it valued at half that, which means he can't afford anything like as good in a nicer area.

Certainly nicer than it is now. My mum still lives there and I worry about her. I still own a house down there as I couldn't sell it - I bet it's worth about £25 and a Kit Kat now.

I got attacked down the subway about a year ago by a couple of chavs. I had to run into the water to escape. I was lucky as they don't care nowadays. Two v one isn't a problem for them. I imagine they were after my wallet but they didn't fancy getting wet. That or they just wanted to smash someones face in for their amusement. Scum. I know some cats down there have been stamped on to death recently. My mums cats are like family to her - she lives alone and it boggles the mind why people would do something like that.

Flippin heck! Well I will say it certainly wasn't anything like that!
That's the problem, when an area gets that bad you can't move away because no-one wants to live there any more.
I hope you can help get your mum away from there one day though mate as well as selling your house.

I never had any problems with the Grange and used to walk around there at night without a worry.
Everywhere seems to be getting worse for low life these days though.

Living in LIncoln these days but both mine and the missus parents still live in Grimsby, my parents live in Humberston and her's live on Wybers.

As for Suffolk Pete, are there any teenagers in Suffolk because the youth custody rate is immense the majority are locked up, do you have child catchers or something lol?

Police are very strict here, any youth misbehaving get a night in the cells,

Twice I have been reported to the police for having my dog off her lead,

Twice the police have visited my house and played with the dog in my garden,

Then gone away saying , " I do not have to have her on a lead "

Why did they visit then ????????

PS. The states , you have to have your dog under control NOT on a lead,

My dog is under my control even if she is the other side of the field,

There , I have answerd my own question again.

Hull!! Am I the only one? It's sickening being surrounded by Hull fans, even when they were knocking on deaths door and we were a decent Division 1 side, they used to lord it over me. "Big stadium, bigger fanbase etc".......

No mate there's me and Marinerian. Gonna move back to Clee though as soon as I can. Nowt against Hull it's actually a surprisingly nice place to live, but I miss home sweet home. And I can ask for a can of coke at the shop and they won't look at me funny and say "You mean Kirk?"

Higham Ferrers, Northants.  Left GY in 1985, returned briefly in 1998 following a marriage breakdown but left again later the same year.  Travelled around a fair bit in the South East mainly purely for work reasons.  No desire to ever move back to Grimsby but that isn't a slur on the Town or the people, I simply couldn't earn the same money if I moved back.  As for the crime issue, well...... I travel an awful lot with my job with the main area's being Bristol, Oxford, Rochdale, Peterborough and Stafford.  I also visit Grimsby for family and football reasons.  In spite of the fact that my local accent has never left me I still feel safer in Grimsby than in any of the other places.  Mind you, my Mother lives in a posh part (Bargate area) so the closet snob in me is perhaps influencing my opinion.
