After hearing that many cities did not want to offend other cultures by putting up Xmas lights, so DIDN'T!After hearing that the Birmingham council changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's licence with her face covered.

After hearing of a Primary School in Birmingham where a boy was told that for PE they could wear Football League shirts (Aston Villa, Birmingham, West Brom etc) but NOT an England shirt as it could offend others!

You'll find the DVLA in Swansea control the issuing of drivers licences (it's nothing to do with Birmingham City Council or any other Council and hasn't been since about 1972) you can rest assured that this story is complete bollox. If you're in any doubt I suggest you ask someone to show you their drivers licence and you'll realise what a complete load of tripe this is.

You might also try (and fail) to name one city council in England that has decided not to put up Christmas lights in 2009. I suggest you try to find one. You won't succeed. Apart from anything else Christmas is a commercial bonanza for shops who pay business rates which fund Councils

Since both those stories are clearly factually incorrect I suggest you take the post down

As a fully paid up member of the yoghurt knitting, beard wearing, sandal eating, Guardian reading PC Brigade, I say, this is bollox.

If you can find one authenticated story that shows a council banning Christmas, or ordering someone to take a flag down because it offends immigrants I'm a Yorkie.

And will people stop using this American terminology for left wingers. Socialists are distinctly NOT liberal. If you want to abuse the left use our indigenous terms like "red scum", you Fascist pigs.

Well last year Oxford banned the word Christmas from it's Winter Light Festival. The source is the Guardian, so you've probably already seen it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/nov/02/christmas-political-correctness-oxford-christian

As for flags http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article859734.ece. Other examples can be found at your local google.

I maintain that we are the problem here not immigrants. The ultra-PC brigade who think that the Crusades are a reason to be ashamed of our national flag and Christmas should be a multi-faith inclusive activity whilst maintaining the integrity of the various minority faiths. Pop down to your local mosque and see if they have a problem with swaping Ramadan for a Winter Fasting Festival better still, nip over to Saudi or Iran or Syria and see the lengths they go to in the name of inclusion.

If I moved abroad I would expect to adapt to the language, cultures and traditions of my new home and I believe the overwhelming majority of immigrants to this country feel the same. The fact is, for all their good intentions, the extreme left do just as much to promote alienation, division and ethnic disharmony as the far right do.

I'd agree that it's well written and makes valid points but I think it's white, middle-class, hand-wringing, yoghurt-knitting, left wing liberals that cause problems by assuming that immigrants will be offended by these things rather than the immigants themselves.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

It is sort of heartening that journalists from The Guardian can be just as incompetent as those from the Daily Mail:

http://www.oxfordtimes.co.uk/news/3814694.No_ban_on_Christmas/

Bloody useless left-wing (and right-wing) journalists getting their facts wrong. Interesting how long this false piece of information (propaganda?) is still going around despite being thoroughly debunked, though, isn't it?

As for the flag thing, quite right we should ban it, if you ask me. St. George was an Italian who never came to England and is the patron Saint of Catalonia, Portugal, Ethiopia, Genoa, Beirut and Moscow and we don't want those bloody foreigners coming over here, taking our jobs and shagging our women blah, blah, waffle, waffle, etc. etc...

I think it was a footnote in the Childhood Wellbeing report commisioned by Ed Balls. Most likely bullshit though eh?

I don't know where you got this from but it is actually a copy of a speech the Australian Prime Minister gave referring to Austrailia with a few places and names changed.  I have it on my computer wishing that an English minister would have the balls to say such a thing!!
