The players did not hound him out, what a load of nonsense. The fans piled on pressure and called for his head after a few bad results - that ratcheted up the pressure, which the players struggled under, leaving the board no choice but to sack Hurst. Impatient whiny fans are also responsible for the situation we find ourselves in - I wish they'd intercourse off and "support" someone else tbh.
