What exactly numbers wise is a sell-out these days?

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

If we have a big club selling out the away end, it’s 8500 absolute maximum. If the away fans are in the corner, we don’t sell out. And it’s no surprise either because there are hundreds of seats from which paying for full price football would be a scandal.

If Wimbledon have the Osmond, I’d expect 6500.

If Wimbledon have the corner, maybe 7000 tops.

Or, if the last two games are anything to go by, we’ll be lucky to get 5000!

I asked 3 prominent staff members at GTFC on Twitter what numbers, officially, warrants a sell out.......and also asked the million pound question of how many seats are there in the ground.

Can anyone guess what happened next?

If I could be allowed an each-way guess: either no answer or three different ones.

Are we the only set of fans obsessed with how many seats there are exactly?

It doesn’t matter, I’m more impressed that it’s a sellout, again, last game or not, it means nothing in truth yet people are still interested…

We will also need a photo from every seat so that its “restricted view” can also be discussed.

When I was working at the ground, there was talk of someone doing this, but I don't know if it ever happened.

There will be at least one unoccupied seat today as I am in Grasmere.

They must give out a hundred or so for free in the Osmond that end up as no shows because it’s never anywhere near full but always ‘sold out’ online.

400 as of last Wednesday (Just checked their website)
So I assume they'll have around 600, which leaves ALOT of empty seats in the away end.

400+ is a decent effort on their part considering the game means nothing.

We had a few in our hotel last night, happy no doubt that MK Dons got relegated

Wimbledon should've had the osmond corner and Town fans should've been behind the goal IMHO, that would've given us a few more tickets.

Just been in the ticket office and they’re selling tickets. No ST renewals until after the game.

Panic by The Smiths - Lyrics

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again?
The Leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmere
But, honey pie, you're not safe here
So you run down to the safety of the town
But there's panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself
Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music that they constantly play
It says nothing to me about my life
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music they constantly play
On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
Provincial towns you jog 'round
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ

Add 4 more. In fairness it’s my own fault for not being more on the ball post-payday but we wanted 4 together and by the time I got around to it there wasn’t any in the ground.

Kept a check on but when checking on Friday there were 0 tickets to purchase.

Not going to rant and rave because there’s an element of my own fault but if we’ve experienced issues with tickets this season and lack thereof (something which historically hasn’t been an issue), if we have a more successful one next season then I think the club will need to look at how to maximise getting actual people through the door, which would - as someone has mentioned - likely mean an actual incentive for ST holders to make their seat available.

It’s been an odd one this year. There are loads of season ticket seats around me but the seats always seem to be occupied by different people from game to game.

Anyone know what this is about? Some kind of corporate scheme or a syndicate?

Quite a few who have come along I don’t think even were even particularly supporters.

Well according to some on here unless there is a mob of people outside of BP demanding tickets then they don't actually want to attend. It's as if the Internet never happened to them and people don't just look online and see its sold out and shrug that they can't go, which is what actually happens.

They probably think all those online posts asking for tickets for the wimbledon game are just fenty funded bots as part of a campaign of disinformation.

There were 4 blokes next to me that I’ve never seen before, and there were a couple of others on the same row too. Great if they’ve got tickets that have been relinquished by ST holders, but I suspect this isn’t the case.  They all seemed neutral. I suspected they were Wimbledon fans due to southern accents, but no, they weren’t (they didn’t have much to cheer, but they seemed on the fence throughout, shall we say).

Something is definitely going on with the ticketing. My guess - completely unwarranted - was that they had freebies. And this was in the Upper, which according to the official website is all ST holders. I tell you now, it isn’t.

There some seats for sponsors that are not in the directors box block. I had a couple of these for Forest in the Osmond end block of the Upper.

They need find a way to give season ticket holders incentive to release their seats if they can't go or they just won't

This is massively important going forward.
There are hundreds and hundreds every game in prime positions.
Why not give the season ticket holder at tenner if it gets sold?
Saying this worked and at a low estimate 300 do this every game.
£13x300x23= £89700.
Surely we could do with that cash.

The thing is we have been "sold out" on numerous occasions this season. Just imagine what it would be like if we have a great start and are right up there. Demand will be massive.

I hope Jason and Andrew, who I really like, address this ASAP.

A tenner is definitely too much, a fiver maybe,at most.

Why?
It has to be worthwhile and it is money down the drain if the seats could be sold.
Admittedly it depends on demand but it is likely to be high.

I posted the following in February (now slightly edited):

Quoted from 137
Any system for reallocation of ST seats will need to:
i) make it worthwhile for the ST holder to take the time to release it, and
ii) make it worthwhile for the club to implement it.
Both will require an online ticketing system which is fit for purpose - probably a 'bespoke' system will be needed.

< ** My Asian keyboard cannot do the pound symbol, so I'll use the dollar symbol instead.** >

For simplicity, let's say pay on the day is $20 and the cost of a ST works out at $15 per home game.

When a ST holder releases a seat, it becomes available for sale at $15.

IF sold, the ST holder gets a $5 discount on next season's ST. The club pockets an extra $10.
If it's not sold the ST holder gets zilch (apart from a nice 'thank you' email from the club informing the holder that it wasn't sold
and that the "your next season's ST discount" remains at $X).

If the ST holder chooses not to renew next season the discount can be applied to the cost of items from the club shop.
Having a discount available will provide an extra incentive for the holder to renew next season.

The obvious snag is that customers who may have rocked up at BP to pay $20 on the day will choose a reallocated ST seat.
With the cost-of-living crisis, I would expect many to be tempted to go for a reallocated ticket (on a first-come-first-served basis).
That would suit the club to the extent that all season ticket seats are likely to be occupied first, solving that issue - and encouraging
people to book early, which is also to the club's benefit.

Looking ahead, and assuming GTFC continues to thrive, we will get close to selling out BP on a regular basis - in which case the
early sales of all reallocated seats will make little difference. Once they've all been sold it will be only pay on the day thereafter.

So selling a reallocated seat earns the club $25 (25% extra) and the purchaser saves a fiver on the cost of admission. Win-Win.

The club do need to look at this but you can't offer a seat cheaper etc... For me they need to do something as simple as £5 into their online account IF their seat is re sold.

£x (cost of ST) / y (games on ST) = y (average ticket cost)

£300 (guess) / 23 games = £13

So, £10 isn’t a bad price to offer back. And , if sold by the club again, either take that off the following seasons ST or as credit to be spent at the club (meal at mcmenamys, club shop etc)

Maybe it’s not the financial aspect. Maybe it’s how to do it? Some people may find it difficult or complicated.

ST's are scanned so the club, with modern technology, should know who attends most of the games and those that don't. Surely the club could contact those that don't and ask them to release their seat, instead of the other way round.

Probably about 10 seconds if it was via email using Microsoft  flow.

I really rate 1878 and think they've transformed the club in a very short space of time. Loads of things to commend them on.

However the one area I'm less enthused about is their attitude towards capacity. Stockwood's assertion at the fans forum that we weren't selling out and didn't fill capacity almost felt like stubborn denial. Yes, one or two single restricted view seats technically mean it isn't a sell out, but in practice the situation remains that plenty who want tickets can't get them

We were asked by two young lads outside the ground today if anyone had a spare ticket, and there's plenty of examples on this thread of people not coming as there were no paired seats left. I've not gone with family a few times this season as course you want to a least pair up and not be in single seats dotted about the ground.

Because of the attitude when I've heard Stockwood asked it feels as though the answer is brushed off or avoided - something very vague about how if they ever did anything, they'd want it to be permanent. However it doesn't come across as a priority nor something they are particularly actively pursuing.

Even temp seating in the corners for 2-3 seasons would be a great trial of increased capacity and would make a big difference imo. Be great if it was permanent but if that's not feasible, temp seating/safe standing would be a fine solution. Perhaps 1878 are looking into this, it'd just be really good to know a bit more detail

Just been having a think about the whole selling back thing while on a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzoom call with work, again don’t know how possible this is but:

The club has a dedicated phone/email to allow reselling of the seats. You text or email with stand ……. Seat number …. And a unique code for your seat/s. Then if it gets resold, you receive money back etc

As I said before, it could possibly be people that have difficulty with the process that has to be followed at present?

It's not popular with those STHs in their ivory towers but I think the loyalty points on the system should be used to determine away priority on a 3 year average, but still weighted towards STHs. You get so many points for having an ST, so many points for attending a game and here comes the harsh bit, deducted points for frequent non-attendance and non-surrendering. This would come with no cost to the club.

However, I do also think that the £5 credit to your online account if your seat is sold is a bit of a no brainer too. That process can be automated and the club earns extra income by being able to sell that seat. With all the rules around FFP, maximising income becomes increasingly important.

Dotted single seats need closing up which may mean moving the odd STH along a seat or 2.

The owners have done a great job, but the constant denial of it being an issue by Stockwood is a very frustrating one.

I don't particularly care what the club do to try and improve the situation with unused ST seats getting released and then (hopefully) resold.

I'm at the point now where they just need to try something.  See if it works, then react accordingly.  The current approach of putting a Comms out reminding fans they can do it isn't working.

Just scanning this thread alone there's about 20 potential tickets that could have been sold if tickets were an option, which they weren't.  Yet we had a good 1000 empty seats in the home end.

It's a very harsh stick to beat them with but 1878 have got the seats sorts, very good views and unrestricted too.  Perhaps if they challenged themselves to sit in an unfamiliar stand surrounded by people they don't know and with a goalmouth hidden by a police box they may reassess their stance that it's not an issue at present.

I'm not techy but Swansea recons 10 seconds with the right computer program, so I'll go with that.
