Top 7 should be the aim of everyone at the club including team , management and fans .
If I hear anyone from the club trying to downplay our ambitions or expectations I’ll be disappointed

Bloody Hell give us chance first thing see what team we have come the new season who comes and goes etc..
Then look at next seasons fixtures to see the ones I can go to.
ALL I want is their best effort and go for it then "Let the season unfold !"
Me I have to go "Away" to BP for a home game ...UTM 2023/24.

Yes agree  - everyone at the club talks about 'continuous improvement ' now and surely that has to be matched by a constant upgrade in ambition year on year .

If we are not even in the conversation for the top 7 at least this time next year it will go down as a poor season for me.

Stevenage & Carlisle have not gone bonkers with their budgets so it can be done .

I am wondering who the basket case clubs will be next season ,there are always 2 or 3 at least .

Should be aiming for playoffs, expecting nothing more than this season league wise finishing between 10 and 14 and never looking likely to get in the playoffs. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm happy with us establishing ourselves as a solid League Two club for now after two relegations into the National League, anything more would be a bonus for me.

What Hurst did at Shrewsbury gives cause for optimism though.

I think the aim should be top 7, but I wouldn't say I expect top 7 - seems very ambitious for our second season back in the league on a smaller budget than a lot of other teams. Put it this way, I won't be disappointed if we finished in the top half again, provided we're a little bit closer to the playoffs.

I’d hope we’d be in the playoffs, I’m happy how we’ve done this season, we’ve had a great cup run and looking likely to finishing just above mid table so when you look at it like that it’s been a good season, we’ve played some great football but are weak in other areas so let’s hope Paul Hurst gets the right players in to reach the play offs or even better automatic promotion.

I expect us to flirt with a play off position but not make it. I hope we win the league.

More than anything, I’d like to see us develop a team that has a way of playing, particularly at home, and to see us impose ourselves on other teams rather than the other way round.

We should be striving to build a team that can compete for the top 7. However, I won’t be moaning a bucketload, calling it a disgrace or other such guff if we aren’t quite able to achieve that but do build on our placing this season. Nobody is entitled to success, and every league seems to become more and more competitive each season. I’m grateful that we are an EFL club under superb owners and never want to go back to the NL.

I have put down top 10. I have seen nothing that says we can progress any further at this time, but a period of stability as we build to make a challenge in the following season.

I see what you mean but a positive recruitment at the end of this season could change everything. PH will have learnt a lot this season about what is required to compete and get out of this league. We have a much better coaching setup and also a head of recruitment who will have had time to explore what we need and who is realistically available.

All depends on other Clubs who we have with us in the league I expect Disney FC to be right up there and if either Notts County and Chesterfield come up the same.
Some decent teams in the playoffs in L2 and those who miss out will be in the mix.

Then I fancy FGR also in mix at the top and if MK Dons slip through the net they will be top 7 at least. We are facing the possibility of a much more top heavy league next season.

…….but (their is always a but) I would fancy us to do a Stevenage if we nail the recruitment, doesn’t have to be big signing or for a nominal fee, just a good old savy bit of business and never say never kind motto.

I expect us to win more games at home built on keeping the ball and passing it much better than we’ve done this term.

In terms of where we’ll finish? Top half.

I liked this comment / reply as you put another angle on our "Town" that being the other teams in the league what /who,we are up against come 2023/24 Season New owners "Rose tinted Spectacles" for us come to mind but  come Kick off new season we are all in the same boat.
So Positively  looking forward to it  the ups and downs, wins and loses are the joy of supporting  "Town" the dream is automatic promotion , even playoffs would be nice ,stay in the league I don't care just wanna be there.

I learned long ago not to have expectations. Hopes are different and I hope we make the top 7 or better.

At the start of this season, I said I thought we could make the top ten and with a bit of luck and a fair wind, we might make the play offs. Too many draws cost us a lot of points and not having a player or two that could finish the chances we created. I think the stats showed we created plenty, but didn't take enough of them to be a threat to the top end of the league.

I didn't see any team that looked head and shoulders above us, and I don't think we are that far off. A good window needed to make us more ruthless, so let's hope for one.

I think you are spot on with this summary. The circumstances surrounding our promotion always meant that we would be disadvantaged and playing catch up against the top runners for promotion out of this league. The fact that, despite some poor and lacklustre, home performances,  we have remained in contention for a play-off place until fairly recently gives me hope for next season.

We could still finish 10th if results go our way, but we could equally end up 15th.

Not too bad all in all given where we were at 2 seasons ago at this stage with relegation looming.

I wouldn't go as far as saying expect, but I want us all to aim for it.

I will get lynched for this but I won't be calling for Hurst to go if there is a bump in the road next season. Progress/improvement doesn't go up in a straight line, sometimes there are bumps in the road.

Hurst won't be leaving unless he works miracles with us or gets us relegated, so it's pointless for anyone to want him out ,if we are even doing moderately well .

I would not want him gone if we did not go up , he offers good stability at this level.

Hoping for a top 7 finish which we should manage if we get the right players in and sort out home form out.

No teams out there who worry me after all we have beaten them all before.

We seem likely to finish in the top half this season, most likely 11th, possibly 12th, so we’ve re-established ourselves as a solid tier 4 team. With an increased budget, a manager/coaching staff who have an enhanced understanding of what is required to succeed in this division and a few retained players who could make the same claim, you have to be optimistic that we can do better next season.

For a play-off place we need to improve by 17 points or more - can we expect that big a leap?

There were times this season that we were looking downwards, so for me, if we are challenging for a place in the play-offs, even if that ends in us falling just short, I’ll be happy and will see that as further progress.

What I really want to see is a less chaotic style of football and some control in posession. These lads have done well given the mitigating circumstances and the limited pre season, but it's been madness at times with posession being exchanged every few seconds. Perhaps we need an older head in midfield to calm things down when we do have the ball. We should be looking for a minimum of the play offs, this club has slept for too long.

Unfortunately, I fear we are going to get served up pretty much the same as this season.

Maybe that's a better question :

Would people take the same style (especially at home )
and a better finishing position .

Or a better style ,an identity to our play BUT a worse finish or on par with this season ?

I know in an ideal world it would be both , but going on this season ,the style of play in league 2  is not in the main conducive to success .

It's a hard slog of a league , I have mentioned before, on the whole most teams are at a pretty similiar level and teams wildly inconsistent .

I suppose if we are being pessimistic , goal 1 will be to get to 50 points and not 'do a Hartlepool' or a Grimsby from that short time ago.

Hoping for a top 7 finish next year, but I'd be happy enough with a top 10 finish (and a half-decent Cup run) if we can develop a more cohesive pattern of play and score a few more goals. It has been very haphazard at times this season and Hurst has chopped and changed so much because I think he realises that the quality isn't really there in the squad we currently have.

As a season ticket holder I just want us to win more home games.

Continuously improvement means a higher finish than this year.

I'd hope for at least a challenge to the play offs, even if we fall just short and finish 8th or 9th, so long as the season is alive until the last couple of weeks then that is progress.

Obviously none of us a clue because it all depends on summer recruitment. We need 5-6 top quality players to get us challenging for the top 3 I think we'll get them and get promoted.

I will do another poll August 1st after most of the signings should be through the door , it will be interesting to see what we do and the comparison in expectation.

Quoted from ginnywings
I learned long ago not to have expectations. Hopes are different and I hope we make the top 7 or better.

At the start of this season, I said I thought we could make the top ten and with a bit of luck and a fair wind, we might make the play offs. Too many draws cost us a lot of points and not having a player or two that could finish the chances we created. I think the stats showed we created plenty, but didn't take enough of them to be a threat to the top end of the league.

I didn't see any team that looked head and shoulders above us, and I don't think we are that far off. A good window needed to make us more ruthless, so let's hope for one.

I believe that our fans low expectations have been the main reason our previous owner was allowed to get away with so much

If the likes of Stevenage, Accrington Stanley and Morecambe can get promoted on shoestring budgets averaging around 3,000 gates then Grimsby have as good chance as any.

Top 3 to 7 for me.

Anything less than an FA Cup semi final is a backwards step.

I HOPE we run away with it and win the league

I WANT a top 7 finish

I'll BE HAPPY with top 10, as this would be an improvement over this season and show stability
