Next season's away shirt

Sorry, no exclusive here — just wondering what colour it should be.

Since so many teams have either red, white or blue as their home colour, I think we need to avoid these so we can actually play in an away kit (feels like we've worn pink more than blue this season).

Green isn't a popular colour in these parts, although our fans did seem very fond of the mint green training tops.

So then, what colours would give us the best chance of getting the most out of an away kit next season?

Black and white stripes

Said it before and I’ll say it again - GTFC should be all red away from home. Third kit can be anything you like. Don’t care.

Yellow, but smoked haddock yellow. Ahh Tony Rees, no he could hold a ball up, or lay it off, or flick it on.

The Junior Mariners 3rd kit competition said to avoid red so I assume that will be the colour of the away shirt

Dock Tower browny-red including pointy hat.

Dogshit brown…something iconic, ribbed cuffs, long sleeved only, no sponsor, no badge, just three fish…

Sky blue ginger - a colour my long departed mother always mentioned!

The old red and blue striped one from around 1995. Loved that!

Whatever colour will guarantee 3 points.

Remember being in Tenerife, a kid from down south got all excited as he pulled out an AC Milan away shirt, called his dad over, brother, mum, auntie, the dog and the shop owner…to see a whacking great big Town badge stuck on it…

Chocolate and blue quarters as we had a hundred years ago.

The chocolate brown and sky blue quarters or halved shirts we had as the first kit around 1900 looked great. Plus false moustaches to go with it.

Need to sort the home kit out . I said on here before the season started that when we introduced that green into the home kit it would not end well. Now we are looking at our worst home league wins for 130 years. I told you so!

And as was discussed at length, during the period the kit was released, the green thing turned out to be some urban myth…

The white dog collar looks naff and uncomfortable too!

So here’s a view they will get me red crossed to f**k, I know that the club makes good money from kit sales but when times are tough should we not retain the current one for another season?

I'm going to add to this, our owners talk about being sustainable and one way of achieving that is by renewing our shirts less frequently. I appreciate that shirt sales provide commercial income but you could still achieve a good proportion of that by releasing an away kit this summer and the home kit next summer for example.

I think what we do with kids designing the third kit is great, but could they not design the away kit instead, with the previous seasons away kit then becoming the third kit?

Sponsors are staying the same aren’t they? So why not keep it.

I guess, the club needs to earn extra cash somewhere so this is probably where. Maybe have a 2 or 3 year shelf life on each shirt. Then rotate accordingly. This ethos about sustainability has to start somewhere doesn’t it? But, would ST prices then increase or the ‘playing budget’ be affected? It’s a tough one because of the amount of views that differ on the subject all the way from the boardroom to supporter.

Personally, I’d love to see an orange away shirt. I think it would go down a treat

It was Milan’s 3rd shirt in 1995/96 and our away shirt in 1996/97. We kept the same Lotto home shirt for 1997/98 as the season before but we had an all red away kit.

I actually think the blue one would stand up now to be honest.

I think the blue one became the third shirt in 97/98 too, with the red kit then only actual new kit as the club retained the home shirt from 96/97 too.

Can't imagine any club doing that now.

Our colours are black white and red. For a long time we were always all red for an away kit when I was growing up. Don’t know why we deviated. Third kit can be anything. Obviously there are a few teams who are red and white or blue and white stripes, so a third kit can be any old colour for me.

Brown and purple hoops with pink sleeves, orange shorts, pink and purple hooped socks.

Then we wouldn't need a 3rd kit, and save ourselves some money (unless the above clashes with anybody).

Whatever happens, this summer the existing home shirt needs binning and made miles better (no stupid, cheap dog collar). But keeping the blue kit for another season would be a step in the right direction.

1 or 2 new kits per season, but not all 3, would be a decent gesture.

The original point in this thread was that an away kit that's blue doesn't get much of an airing because of the many teams in this division that have a blue home kit (hence why we've worn pink a lot).

Orient, Salford, Swindon, Walsall, Crewe, Crawley and (maybe) Donny's home kits have meant red couldn't be worn.

Stockport, Carlisle, Gillingham, Wimbledon, Colchester, Hartlepool, Rochdale and (maybe) Barrow & Tranmere have meant blue couldn't be worn.

The anomalies are Northampton (possibly red would clash), Sutton, Newport, Harrogate and Mansfield (yellow/orange would clash).

So, if you were starting from scratch and wanted the maximum opportunity to wear your away kit, what colour/style should it be?

A few clashes will be unavoidable. But a hi-viz style fuscia pink/purple with black shorts wouldn't clash with much

Just play in black-and-white stripes unless there really is a clash.

The away shirts are a fashion thing but I don't see why we wear them so often.

Could have a retro black and white away kit since we have a third kit anyway

Wasn’t that white shirt like a limited edition thing? Was never officially part of the original kits I think. Didn’t we wear at Bradford or have it made because all of our kits clashed at some sort of game?

It’s extremely sought after among shirt collectors, I definitely know there wasn’t many in the shop to buy…

I’m telling you, a green away shirt is the answer!

Forget superstition, with our current sponsor and the future direction of industry in the region, green would be a symbol.

For me the Blue is good ..The pink is yuk !!!
Leave the blue as any changes you put mums and Dads under pressure from peer pressure keeping  with latest fashions ,like school uniforms  etc.

I was given a shirt by Dave Gilbert when we won promotion in the 89/90 season. I was helping a mate sell programmes at the time and asked if anyone could get it signed for me and thankfully they said yes. It wasn’t until I went to uni and was looking for the top that my mum thought it was dirty so washed it. Distraught isn’t the word!
