It doesn't look great does it:

Eskilstuna: left due to a disagreement with the board.
Grimsby: slagged off his budget.
Barrow: fell out with the board.

At what point do you look in the mirror and think you might be the problem?

Except football managers, like politicians, usually end careers badly. You could spin any manager as a failure if you wanted. Such a tough job and Jolley saved us that season, which should mean he'd never have to buy a drink in the town again if he ever got bored of the San Miguel.

I can think of far worse, gloomy, depressing, smellier places (mind you the overflowing garbage in Ibiza stinks!) to be than managing a team in the province of Malaga.

We were 6 points clear with 10 games left when he took over, we were hardly cut adrift. We managed 2pts from his first 5 games before beating Chesterfield. He hardly dragged us out the mire.

Granted, we now know, although a few of us did then, that the club was in a mess but looking back, Jolley was dogger. It’s hard to believe people ever criticising Hurst because in truth, on 35 years we’ve probably had two good managers, 3 if you count Slades one good season and possibly four if you include Brian Laws…

Jolley, like Bignot probably wasn’t wrong about the club but neither were in any position to be able to criticise because they were both flipping chancers…

I think people forget just how bad we were before he was sacked. After a good start, and we were very good in that home game against Notts after being shite for months before it, I thought he might have something about him. That was immediately extinguished in the first game of the next season when he spent the entire pre-season preparing to play 352 without signing a single capable wing back. The first full season was very average and the second season in charge was dire. Some of the worst football we've ever played. His career since leaving Town would suggest that despite doing a good job in keeping us up initially, the emperor really had no clothes.
