And, as noted in a thread the other day, the season after the great escape (which came thanks to long throws and penalties), he spent a pre-season preparing to play 3-5-2, yet we kicked-off against FGR with Harry Clifton and the incredibly slow Paul Dixon playing as wing-backs. I know we didn't have any facking money, but I'm not convinced his tactical nouse was really up to much, regardless of his coaching badges. His subsequent career doesn't exactly beg to differ from this view.
