A smaller club than ourselves with ideas above their station as always. They've had a problem with us since '98 for no reason. I cannot ever remember them playing in the second tier.

Northampton are similar to Peterborough. I think it’s what happens when you’re in the part of the world that neither northern, but not southern enough to be London. Over inflated egos and in truth, a non club. Northampton wete a bunch of boring arrogant girl privates in 98 and they’ve never changed.
If they were so good they’d have seen the game out against a side that’s lost 6 out of 7 away games…

Huge potential due to a massive local population (wasn’t Northampton once the most populous ‘town’ in England?), but if they’ve never reached that potential so far, they’re unlikely to ever do it.
So I’d agree, a bigger town than Grimsby, but actually a smaller club. It does happen. Burnley being the ultimate club for maximising their potential, in fact hugely exceeding what should be possible. The exact opposite to Northampton.

Their left winger was rapid, Amos lost Hoskins for their goal - apart from that, wasn't too worried about them.
For us - Gallagher and Emmanuel both brought some hardness and graft into play, but we still pass poorly at times, and play too much head tennis.
But a grafting win with the ref on their side for most of the game as well !!
Blind to miss that penalty claim - McAtee was clear, if he hadn't deflected the ball !!
Northampton didn't look like play off or promotion contenders ! Missing Fox, perhaps ??

I live in this area, just down the road, and rugby is much bigger than football. They're competing with Saints whose average gates are nearly 14,000 (not forgetting Northants play at the County Ground, where NT used to play). Bedford, down the road, get around 3-4,000 in the second tier of the union leagues. Bedford Town get about 250.

Northampton’s recent form is worse than ours, they’ve only achieved 10 points from their last 10 games compared to our 12 points so he’s not got a lot to shout about. The Northampton local radio station did not give us the respect we deserved either although they did admit we should have been awarded a penalty for the hand ball incident.

| Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 ) |

Northampton have always had a superiority complex especially when it comes to Town. Some of the stuff on local radio before the '98 play off final was off the chart. They thought they had some sort of divine right to beat us because they'd sold 42,000 tickets and has won the previous seasons play off final to get promoted. Unfortunately for them they were just a bunch of long ball bully boys who came up against a cultured team managed by a legend.
Don't know if it has anything to do with being a large town, the county town. I think they believe they should be a city and have completely forgotten when they played on the edge of a cricket ground and that they are overshadowed by the local egg chasers.

| And when you fall back into the mud it hurts a lot. No! None of it was true, none of those things we thought we could see existed at all. All that was really there was still more misery

And have one of the worst local councils in the land…I met someone who worked for them in their education department. They essentially had the bailiffs in… flipping pointless club, in a pointless place…

Also an absolutely scruffy dump. We went for a beer afterwards and the streets were full of litter. Not just a little bit either a right mess.
