Yes, and if he was younger/quicker/more prolific, he wouldn't be anywhere near us.
The failure this season has been to have an adequate back-up given his age and the likelihood of spells out injured. Lloyd looks a decent enough prospect but isn't nearly the player that Taylor is just yet. I'd imagine his loan spell at the club will help him out - I'm sure that most younger strikers could learn a lot from the way Taylor plays the game.

People who don't rate Taylor simply don't understand football. His overall contribution is enormous, you only had to see the last 5 mins at Northampton where his worth was already clear.
Possibly your opinion , doesnt mean i dont understand football does it? Just dont see peoples fascination with him and really think its backward we cant get better. you know someone who can move, pass not commit endless fouls and throw elbows around in an endless game of russian roullete. someone who can actually hold the ball up . I will always support the player when playing but i will not have someone try to impose their opinion on me by saying i dont know football. i know as much as the next fishy poster. opinions indeed.

Football does seem to be changing and players like Ryan Taylor are a dying breed. Any team of mine would always have a big target man up top, a player like Waterfall at the back, lots of energy in midfield and get crosses in from wide.

I don't think they are a dying breed.

Taylor reminds me of Gary Jones a player who was only recognised has being any good when he wasn't playing. We let Jones go a year too early and I hope we don't make that mistake again though I trust Hurst to get that right. Taylor scores important goals rather than loads of em but his hold up and link play is top drawer at this level. I also think he brings the best out of Mcatee and that is what can fire up the table.

In the same way I doubt Reddy would have been half as effective without Jones doing a lot of dirty work for him.

Absolutely loved Gary Jones, but I think there was an equal desire on his behalf to not stay wasn't there? Lots of niggling injuries and a desire to move back to his native North-West.

Yeah his ankle was bollocksed; he went to Colwyn Bay as assistant manager, don't think he played even at that level.

I know that there's a world of difference in our ball retention when Tayls is on the pitch. It probably explains why players like him, Hopper for example, are like gold dust and why Colchester are allegedly paying him 5k a week.

I'm a bit mystified by the early post saying Taylor is a dying breed. That type of player is alive and kicking (literally) in league 2 - there've been no end of posts complaining that we got muscled out of games and we need players to be more physical.
While not exactly a Ryan Taylor, Northampton's No 9 on Saturday was a bit of a handful in the first half - he was physical, held the ball up, was a threat in the air and chased everything (he faded in the second half and got less to feed off as we took more control).
