Very well played today he claimed everything in the air and made a vital point blank save straight after our goal.

Doesn't seem the type of player that struggles with confidence to me, let's face it he didn't get much protection Thursday against Salford.

Good to see him back today, much better and an excellent save in the 2nd half to stop them equalising.

Cracking performance, back to somewhere near his best for me.

I’m possibly making more of this than need to be or over thinking. However when he shanked a back pass second half I noticed how bobbly the pitch is in the Osmond area, looks like he has no confidence on the direction of the ball been played back, especially at pace.  Is it a coincidence each of the kicking errors have come from that end of the pitch?

I noticed that Stockport's pre match warm up routine at the Osmond end cut the pitch up in three areas, particularly a patch near the penalty spot.

Very good today, only really had 1 save to make that I can remember but it was a great save. But a few times he came out and caught crosses/corners very well and the distribution was much better... Looking back maybe he was another close to being MOTM.

Excellent save today and his isn’t a position we need to worry about.

I think the sh!thousery needs to be addressed though as it’s symptomatic of our negative approach when we get ahead in games. Crocombe is good at distributing the ball quickly and setting us away when we are playing with urgency and looking to get ahead. Once we get ahead he’s more interested in lying down for a long time than exploiting opportunities for a counter and a second/another goal. Sets the tone for a backs to the wall job. Which we’re generally not very good at.

I seem to recall Macca getting booked for time wasting on several occasions. The majority of keepers employ some form of sh!thousery and I have no objection to Max using it to some extent as long as it doesn't lead to a booking .

Ultimately, it's up to the referee to stop it but too many of them simply don't deal with time-wasting properly. Most keepers indulge in time-wasting when the need arises but Crocombe does seem to have the knack of being just slow enough to get away with it without a rebuke from the referee.

If the referee is weak, I suppose it is only natural that players will attempt to use this as an advantage. At least our lot don't tend to throw themselves onto the ground feigning injury very often as do many do.

Yep, Macca used to do it and of course it’s not just a Crocombe thing. That wasn’t really my point.

Macca’s distribution and quick thinking when in possession was poor. Crocombe’s isn’t and there were a couple of occasions yesterday when he could have released players when Stockport were heavily committed but he chose to waste time instead. Like I said, I think this is an example of a wider issue we have with killing off games by being proactive.

I’ve lost count of the number of times he would collect the ball, charge to the edge of his area to release it, then stop and hold it for an eternity.

Crocombe is clearly an upgrade on Macca, and whilst Macca was a good servant, I wonder if some of the oddballs having a dig at Crocombe in the ground just can’t let go of Macca?

Crocombe’s delivery was a tad better on Sunday but I’ve seen him play better. Personally, I thought he was slow to release but that’s understandable, we were desperate for a win so slowing it down and making it harder for them to get in to a rhythm makes total sense.

Max had a decent game but there was one launched ball in injury time that was in the air for an age and came down a few yards inside his box that he really should have claimed. Happy to have him though,.decent L2 keeper and good character

Very decent goalkeeper and I enjoy watching him.
I'm certainly not one to pick out occasional errors with GK's. For me it is the consistency that matters, and he has been consistently good.
In the Salford game, I heard people criticising him for a great central pass to Holohan that led to one of their goals. There was nothing wrong with that pass and it was the right decision. The error was in Holohan's first touch. Nearest Salford player to Holohan was 5-8 yards. He had the opportunity to receive that ball better and set it to be played further forward. And if Holohan was really on his game v Salford, he could have checked his shoulder, received the ball on his back foot side on, and played forward himself.

Max is doing smashing and long may that continue.

It is great that he looks to collect the ball and hopes to play it early to start quick counter attacks. But when he gets to the edge of that box and that early ball isn't on, then he does right to slow it down and think again

I thought it was a miskicked clearance rather than a great central pass v Salford, but I'm more than prepared to be wrong seeing as I'd have to be paid about £10000000 to watch the game again!

If that was intentional, it was a terrible pass. To have a bobbling ball smashed at you and expected to trap it nicely whilst somebody sprints at you is asking for trouble. The touch was awful too, but that pass was not good.

Have to agree. Holohan isn't De Bruyne and Blundell Park isn't a bowling green atm. Should have been launched but Crocombe is still a very solid L2 keeper.

Definitely looked a slashed clearance to me which is why it was hit so hard. Holohan shouldn't have risked trying to control it in that position if he couldn't be certain of keeping the possession, but a combination of two errors all the same. Following on from the dodgy goal we conceded before Christmas when he punted it into an opponent, that's a couple of goals from kicking errors of late. I thought his kicking was a lot better in general in the Stockport game and he played well overall so no problems with him for me.

McKeown was a great shot-stopper in his prime and won us more points from his saves than he cost us from poor kicking and being welded to the goal line. The problems began when he didn't stop the shots allied with his other weaknesses. Crocombe looks better all around to me. No big weaknesses in his game and you just have to accept that keepers at this level will give a goal or two away each season. Heck, you can say the same for top level keepers!

Crocrombe is not a perfect goalkeeper, but neither are all other others, beit prem, EFl or NL. They all drop clangers at times or slice a clearance.

I think Max is as good as you get at this level. Yes, he headed in that goal the other week but he's spot-on for over 90% of the time and gets away with it 9.999999% of the time. That other small % is when a goal goes in, but let's not forget there are 10 other teammates in front of him who are also meant to be defining the ball.
