For 25 years in the early 20th Century, Encyclopedia Brittanica had complete item about a non-existant country, including facts and figures.

The country of Hoceland materialised when a spelling mistake by one of the typists wasnt picked up by the proof readers.

It later transpired that the typist had been tasked with typing details about Holland, but had been talking about Iceland to a colleague. How all the facts and figures came about, nobody owned up to, but it was believed that the error was noticed in the March that year and someone added the made up facts and figures as an April Fools Day prank.

With extra time in cup games and playoff matches, they can be up to 12 substitutes in one game.

Grimsby would have had a much better chance of reaching their first FA Cup final, in 1939, if ANY subs had been allowed at the time.  George Tweedy, our England goalkeeper, was injured a few days the semi-final against Wolves at Old Trafford.  

During the game our reserve keeper went off injured.  We carried on with 10 players, and no keeper.  No great surprise that we lost 5-0, a record FAC semi-final defeat.  An unwelcome record only equalled in recent years.  (The record attendance set that day still stands at 76,962. A larger crowd than Man United have ever had at Old Trafford).: Even Chalky did not know that.
