And no doubt next weekend too. Inevitable when you have an organisation like the EFL needing to make logical decisions.

They fail to see that it’ll also need to be off next weekend for a funeral, short sighted.

Hope everyone enjoys effectively being forced to watch repeated misery on the tele all weekend (but you must ensure you all still go to work Monday morning).

Understandable - this is a significant once-in-a-multi-generation moment.

However, I was really looking forward to making my first match of the season!

Get to work serfs but spend all your free time mourning the death of a lady…

To be fair, the funeral is likely to be the Monday/Tuesday…

That has ruined so many people’s weekends, mine included.

Weak decision, in my opinion.

The St Leger has been pushed back 24 hours and will take place on Sunday.

So football has to shut down completely until Tuesday at the earliest. But the Queen's favourite sport will be back up and running on Sunday.

Nope, they didn't cancel the football when King George died so there's zero precedent for it happening now. It's an abject decision from the PL and EFL - Govt guidance said they didn't need to cancel, rugby, golf and cricket are all due to go ahead from tomorrow, so why on earth have they called all the football off, causing unnecessary disappointment and inconvenience to millions in a time of national sorrow? Is fun and enjoyment in this country totally banned until 7 days after the funeral?

King George VI died on Wednesday February 6th 1952, and 3 days later on the Saturday a full set of fixtures took place.
His funeral was on Friday 15th and another full set of fixtures were played the following day.
So there is no precedent or tradition for postponements to happen based on 'antiquated rules'.

Understand that everyone will have different opinions on this. But it doesn’t sit right with me that people carry on working as normal, shops, cinemas, theme parks etc remain open. Yet football has to stop, I don’t understand the justification. A minute’s silence and black armbands would’ve been a better way of showing respect, in my opinion.

A period of national mourning followed George VI's death. Rugby and hockey games were postponed, though football matches continued with the singing of the national anthem and the hymn "Abide With Me" before each game

Makes the decision look even worse then, pathetic… let’s all stay in and be miserable, I’m sure that’s what she’d of wanted 🤯

I just assumed the done thing was that everything got cancelled the weekend after the queens death but it turns out that's not the case at all with pretty much all other sports carrying on. There seems to be no reasoning at all behind it apart from yet another madshit decision solely from the football authorities be it the FA, PL, EFL or National League. You can't even blame the government or royal family, just the disconnected from normality 'fellas round the table' at English football HQ's.

Whilst not a royalists by any means I do have tremendous respect towards the Queen for her selfless service to this country. However in reflection I would much rather the match goes ahead. Bang her picture on the big screen, black armbands,  a two minute silence which I am sure will be impeccably observed. These offer me more chance for me to pay my respect than staying at home and watching Netflix or the Test match.

100%. Of course there will be a minute or two of silence when football resumes but with some of the rawness gone I don’t think it will be as moving.

It’s an own goal for me, but you can’t please everyone. I think football’s negative reputation, fair or otherwise, left those in charge to scared to rock the boat.

Just shows how out of touch the governing bodies are, not surprised by the decision the FA, Premiership & National league are they are run by muppets.  These muppets allowed Man Utd & West Ham to play on the day our Queen died, as not to upset UFEA, but the ordinary folk of this country have miss out, when they is much going on at the moment, sport is a good distraction.

A massive own goal, a missed opportunity for the football family to show our respect to the Queen when emotions are raw and real. It will not feel the same when we are allowed back to show our respect.

God bless your Majesty, rest in peace.

I don’t disagree with the sentiment of what you have said and a minutes silence would be a good way of people being able to show their respects, but the Man U and West Ham games had thousands of fans that had come from overseas to see them (and not just Man U fans), so I think that had to be taken into consideration
