Got to say, I'm not overly impressed with our transfers so far.
We've made some good cash and from what I've seen, we just haven't used it.
It's evident that an experienced and proven striker is needed and there are no whiffs of that happening.
We may have a few days left to save this but its gone completely quiet and we are already 5 games in from today...
Disappointed...
The lack of a quality striker is seriously going to bite us in the behind further in the season.

Montel Gibson, Alhagi Touray Sisay, Ira Jackson Jr, Virgil Gomis. That’s what happens when you take any striker going just to make up the numbers.
Our recruitment since last summer has been excellent. There are 5 days left until the end of the window, and I suspect more so than ever that this will be a window where things happen late for most clubs. Chill out.

Totaly agree with this 18 months or more without a main striker is a bit beyond belief realy.. Yes good strikers are not as plentyfull as other areas and cost money but without one you will struggle as you go up the leagues . Hurst needs to start living in the real world and spend some cash because thats what it takes

We will have made plenty of enquiries and offers, but we can't force players to come here.
The players we will be interested in will have options and we've already seen one target go to a club in a higher division as PH mentioned last week.
As the deadline nears, it will focus the mind and things will start to move.

We are still to see some of our signings – two of them attackers – and Wearne and Pepple are still bedding in/adapting. Add McAtee to the list and we are not badly stocked. I appreciate that we have a thin squad right now but that will also speed Pepple’s improvement as he is guaranteed more game time.

Yes we all want a striker, but PH is not going to sign one for the sake of it. Just look at the names Poojah mentioned….

You’re either the same person as the original poster, really bad at sarcasm or spent the entirety of last season asleep. Some flipping oddballs on here, imagine shitting a brick when you’ve no actual idea what’s in the pipeline, not to mention the fact our recruit since hollowayhead has left has been excellent, in and out…

Add Matt Green, Harry Cardwell etc etc and you see the rich recent history of spaffing money on strikers who can't score goals or provide much of anything.

A few days left of the window, let’s see who comes in. My question to posters on this thread would be who thinks we will stay up without signing another Striker?

We probably would stay up without signing another striker. On the other hand, we might be a very good side with a couple more options up front.

I completely agree that four windows without a proper #9/fox in the box type coming in is ridiculous.
However, the business we've done so far has been great. Anyone agreeing with the opening post please feel free to tell us who has been a poor signing? Glennon, Morris, Smith, Kiernan and Green have all slotted seamlessly into the side. That's almost half of a starting lineup added to all but one of a promotion winning side that we wanted to keep. This is on top of the new talent out with niggly injuries that we've brought in.

Kiernan is still in the ‘not sure’ category for me. In that, I’m not sure there’s an end product.

Regards a number 9 ...whilst it's easy to see a spare number and say "we need one" what we do seriously need is a couple of attributes adding to the squad 1. Someone to score 2. Someone with pace to stretch the opposition
Someone to score.......I think Orsi could be that guy.....but not as a lone striker in the way Hurst currently likes to set up. If when he gets to fitness he is used as a back to goal lone striker then we will all just think he is useless. That isn't his strength so he will need to be used I'm a system that suits his strength.
Someone with pace......we currently don't have anyone who is quick enough to outpace the opposition in the attacking third, I would say Efete is probably our quickest player right now. Khan is as yet an unknown quantity to us, is he out and out quick or is he a trickier individual ?
The bigger picture though is Hurst prefers hardworking players who are disciplined, we were fortunate that in Mcatee we got good mixture of hardworking, guile, finishing , tenacity all in one so Hurst killed a few birds with one stone , this year it might take a couple of players to provide those same qualities which means Hurst would have to alter his approach to accommodate maybe a pure guile/finisher or continue rotating players who aren't as capable leaving us a bit short on the final third in open play and rely on defensive tightness and the odd set play to win games.

I gave a rarely given red cross to the OP. We have recruited well and there is plenty of time to get the players Hurst wants.
Man United bought very poor players by not taking their time, for well over the odds, including Maguire.

In the Buckley years we hardly ever had an out and out goal scorer but players chipped in from all over the pitch. Donovan and Groves often scored more goals than the likes of Woods and Rees.

We have Taylor, Pepple and Orisi as forward players plus McAtee who would have probable scored 20 goals last season if he hadn’t been injured. Plus numerous goal scoring midfielders, not forgetting Waterfall (90). We will probably sign another forward but we will comfortably stay up without one, unless we are very unlucky with injuries.

Two goals today created by two new forwards signed by PH. One making his debut after injury and one easing his way into English football. What PH actually needs to sign is a no10 replacement for McAtee who he expected to have available until a few weeks ago.

I’m not sure we do need this number 9 people keep moaning about. I can see pepple and orsi being very good from what I’ve see . They both have some good pace.
Not sure we are creating enough chances for any player to score 20 goals though.

PH has done great business so far and would have expected to have McAtee and Orsi available at this point and had neither, despite this we have had a pretty good start. Bim did well today - he's made great progress in a short time because he looked lost v Crewe. But we need a forward, and I expect we'll get one before the deadline.

Firstly, we got promoted last year and secondly, if we’d have played with this ‘main striker’ we apparently didn’t have then where would McAtee have played and would he have been as effective. It’s 2022, football has moved on from having to have a traditional number 9 poacher in the starting line up.

This apparent need for a prolific number 9 to be successful is a fallacy. Yeah it would be nice but It's just one way to crack a nut. We literally just flipping proved there are other just as effective ways to crack a nut. As did Exeter City and Port Vale who got promoted with top scorers on 14 and 12 goals respectively.. Plus we don't know what Orsi and Khan can do. We don't have McAtee at the minute. Had the game finished against Carlisle and we snuck a 1-0 win, we'd be 7th after 6 games. Chill the intercourse out with the one track nonsense, it's boring. Have a tight defence and you're always in a game

Not a signing this year but what a signing Max Crocombe had turned out to be. I’m sure no Town fan knew anything about him before he signed and many didn’t like him replacing Macca but he is turning into one of Town’s great keepers.

His improvement over the last 6-8 months has been dramatic. He’s way way better with the ball at his feet and when crosses come into the box than Macca was ever going to be. It’s got to the stage where I have faith and confidence in him when a ball goes in. His shot stopping has been spot on too. If he carries on like this, we’ll have a problem holding onto him next season. Regards the overriding point of this thread, there is an unhealthy obsession with a No9. We got promoted last season without one, Man City have won the league the last 2 years without one, Exeter and Vale got promoted with their top scorers having low to mid teen goals. I think our poacher is Orsi anyway, he looked lively and clever when he came on yesterday. The striker we’re going to sign will likely be a younger, fitter, more mobile version of Taylor I’m imagining, given the way we play and it being far from ideal to make Ryan play 90 mins every game. Our recruitment this close season, although a small sample size looks very good at first glance. Morris is an excellent player. Green will be good once he’s up to speed properly. Glennon has been excellent both in open play and from dead balls. We haven’t seen Maher or Khan yet. Bim looks a lively and useful addition and Andy Smith is a cut above at this level.

What a gamble he took as well. He was going to Boston as their first choice keeper and at the eleventh hour we came in, doubling his money as second choice. Fast forward a year and he's our undisputed first choice. I hope he gets a call up to the New Zealand squad. Matthew Gould (grandson of Bobby, son of Jonathan) is third choice but barely plays for Altrincham. They have another keeper Oliver Sail who plays for Wellington Phoenix over in New Zealand and then Stefan Marinovic who signed for Hapoel Tel Aviv earlier this year. Surely he's worthy of a place in the New Zealand squad?

I'm not sure Crocombe is the most brilliant shot-stopper, but he still does a decent job in that regard and his kicking is pretty good as well.
His best attribute is his confidence coming out to collect crosses which is a massive bonus in this division where so many teams put it into the box over and over again. Having the confidence to try and catch the ball to retain possession rather than just 'being safe' and punching it out is very helpful, especially when you're under pressure. He hasn't made too many ricks that I can remember, either.
All-round very solid-looking keeper which is all you can really hope for.
