Interested to hear which 5 players you think will be our most important for the new season going by last seasons performance
Taken nothing away from the whole team who have been incredible but I'm going for
MC Atee Amos Fox ( who I said would be a "Disley" type player the day we got him ) Waterfall Smith
( Efete if he stays fit and Smith if we can get him back )
I really believe that Amos could be one of our stand out players next season. He's grown quickly and put some solid performances in.

Quite how you can put Amos (no disrespect) ahead of Clifton and Taylor astounds me.

No problem at all. That's the purpose of this thread. Just wondered who people would personally choose as their 5

1. McAtee - Literally our poster boy and can tell he loves it here. I think we will have abit of a situation on our hands if we get a sizeable transfer offer for him this year. All dependant on what he wants, either to prove himself at the highest level he can and earn a better wage which you couldn't fault him for or stay here with a new bumper contract and continue to be the main man with the whole fanbase behind him.
2. Waterfall - Cannot believe this was the same player we had in L2, I was baffled when we offered him a new contract under Hollowhead but he's really made me eat my words this year. Absolutely rock solid and so so amazing from set-plays. I think Luke still has a mistake in him from time to time like his 2 minutes of madness near the end of the season but who doesn't at this level?
3. Holohan - Since arriving in January think he's exactly what we've been missing in a goalscoring midfielder I believe he's got 3 in 11? I may be wrong however but just feel like he's a player that will be in the correct space to find himself in a shooting opportunity and after his worldie at Chesterfield I can see him getting a fair few next year.
4. Fox - Think after his injury come back a different animal (Ngolo Fox) between him and Clifton I don't think there wasn't a blade of grass that hadn't been covered in the Playoffs. I think he will be our most important signing this summer and really really hope we can keep hold of him as struck a great partnership with Holohan in the middle.
5. Taylor - Another one I hope we keep hold of even if he isn't going to play every single game next year I just find him more than a target man striker. Great deft touches and good with the ball at his feet, I imagine great to learn from and if we bring in someone younger he will give them so much from little bits and bobs he does.

Taylor has been excellent. Perhaps he hasn’t scored many but when he does they’re great, clinical finishes and important goals. His link up play with Mcatee is something else.
Fox…flipping hell. Literally impossible to describe. For me, prior to injury he seemed ok and was a good work horse, valued member of the team. Since coming back he’s been a cross between Kante and Iniesta. Absolutely phenomenal. A new hero me thinks.
Mcatee, no need for a lengthy piece of prose…we all know.
Amos, improved as the season went on and clearly loves it here and buys in to it all.
Waterfall, again, this season speaks for itself. Top pro and top man for me.
Clifton…was always on the fence but he’s the ultimate Hurst player and impossible to find fault this year.
Smith…excrement, since he slotted in to centr half we’ve been almost unstoppable. Quite remarkable really for a young kid. Massive applause…

All of them, without the evident strong squad unity then we would not have got promoted.

McAtee - Has been immense this season, we played so much better with him in the team. Brings that fire that we lacked so much in previous seasons, has style and swagger for days. Always looking to make something happen.
Waterfall - Has been ever present this season and an absolute rock at the back along with a constant threat from set pieces. His ability to lead on the pitch has been a big part of our success, can always seem him talking and organising. Watching set pieces he's like the catcher in baseball giving whistles and signals on where to put the ball and he often converted to goals or set a goal up from them.
Fox - Probably the best box-to-box midfield player we've had in years, has incredible stamina to be everywhere on the pitch and keep going forever, he played non-stop in each playoff game going the full 120 minutes while looking the least tired person on the pitch. Great defensively and in attack, always seems to be in the right place and picks up the lose balls then recycles them to keep the pressure on. Not picking up lose balls was a weakness for us previously and he's shown how valuable it can be to have a player with that anticipation.
Smith - I thought Towler was a great defender and Andy Smith completely blows him away. Become the perfect defensive partner for Waterfall and brings quality and assurance at the back. He plays like a much more experienced pro with how calmly he deals with things and passes the ball from the back.
Taylor - Very much a footballer's footballer. gets on the end of things, great link up play and an experienced head on his shoulders. He's come up against some difficult situations in the season and done well to deal with them. Lot of games are spent getting knocked around by bruiser defenders and he's always patient and doesn't lose his head when he's getting pushed around with no support from the ref.
Efete - Shame about his injury that put him out for the end of the season because he was a really solid player, brings a lot to the table in our forward movement and gets up and down the line well to link up with the midfield. Always liked him playing over not playing, think he's deserving of a mention.

Going to add Crocombe to that list.
I understand competition may be brought in for him but he played a huge part in turning the side around post Xmas. Once he settled in he commanded his area well enough to dictate that we played further forward, that in turn resulted in a higher press in the opposition half.
His quick distribution gave us another asset too.
If someone comes into replace him and are am improvement, I'll be very happy. Equally so if someone comes in and gets even more out of him, again happy days.

I'm going to stick up for Riley Towler - absolute class act. Smith has been excellent, and it's toss up between who progresses further , but for me Towler is slightly classier than Smith.Smith may be physically stronger, but i don't remember Towler getting bullied by anyone, and i saw a fair amount of the game he played Whatever happens we've been lucky to have both of them in the side
PS Jay Matete or Ben Fox - there's another tough one

Really good hypothetical you've done there in the ps! So good I can't even give you an answer after our playoff campaign!

McAtee really does have a swagger about him doesn't he, best player in the play-offs by a country mile.
Hurst really did pull out a diamond there didn't he.
I'd value him at around £1 Million in the current climate, why not. I wouldn't take less.
Really hope he stays with us but money talks.

A lot of my friends from uni watched our playoff run, I guess not being town fans means they give a less bias view. They all recognised Mcatee as being a class above but they all commented on Crocombe and Clifton.
They said Fox played like Kante and they were all impressed with Abraham’s work rate.
