Playing career - Giggs had made 95% of the money he will make from the game. Greenwood is 20 and should have another decade and a half of earning millions of pounds a year. Because whilst the evidence is horrible and appears to show that he has commited crimes it hasn’t been proven in court. Until that point it is alleged. Therefore anybody passing comments until that point would be potentially making libellous comments. This site has closed briefly for that before. What’s the difficult bit to understand?

Oh, he’s in real trouble alright and being excluded from future England squads is absolutely the least of his worries right now.

Based on the evidence that’s been shared publicly, it’s difficult to see how this won’t lead to a conviction, and that’s assuming that what the world has seen and heard is the only evidence, which it may well not be. Even if the girl involved wishes not to take the case forward, the police are obliged to pursue convictions in any case involving domestic violence (for obvious reasons).

If he is convicted (be it for assault, rape or both) then it’s hard to see it not leading to serious jail time, potentially several years if rape is proven.

Beyond that, his football career is finished. Even if a morally bankrupt club somewhere in the world wanted to take a punt on him, sponsors and other figures associated with the club would make it virtually impossible, as was the case initially for Ched Evans before his conviction was quashed and more recently for Adam Johnson who never played professional football again after his release from prison.

He stands to lose well over £100m over this I would imagine, and if he hasn’t spent what he’s earned to date in his short career wisely then he’s going to be facing a pretty substantial downturn in lifestyle. With that kind of conviction to his name and his apparent shít for brains, he’ll be lucky to find a job stacking shelves in the future.

It doesn’t surprise me that there are scum bags out there, but I do find it shocking that people with absolutely everything going for them can be so utterly stupid so as to let their sheer arrogance and deviance destroy everything they’ve ever worked for.

As others have posted, well done to the girl involved. I imagine it would have been easier to turn a blind eye and keep the champagne lifestyle coming than to come forward and trigger the media frenzy that would inevitably follow. Brave young lady.

Woman beaters are pretty low down the hierarchy and I'm sure there will be plenty of people wanting to get one over him or take money off him so he will probably be on the VP wing making friends with nonces.

Reports that Greenwood may have been arrested so people would be wise to not comment on the specifics of this case as to not prejudice the investigation.

However this may be the perfect time to discuss people’s and in particular young, males attitudes to relationships, sex and consent. I hope that the attention in this case will mean that that discussion does happen.

I also hope that anyone who is experiencing similar within their own relationships feels empowered to get help.

There are plenty of organisations out there that can support victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence.

That statement from the victims father is weird…almost like he’s protecting the asset. Hacked or not (highly doubtful), the fact remains that his daughter was essentially forced to have sex and is covered in bruises, likely from Greenwood. I’m all too aware that DV victims often find it hard to speak out etc for various reasons but for her dad to say some of those things is just bizarre. You’d want whoever did it dead…

Just worth noting for those deciding he’s definitely guilty, will be found guilty at trial and will be handed a long prison sentence. The system doesn’t work like that. Or should that be the system doesn’t work for rape victims.

I have a copper in my family. and he says he hates having to deal with DV as 9/10 complaints get withdrawn. Difficult to move on it. He suspects its a cry for help and a calming gesture.

However in this case MG has form. Rumours have it it has happened before. This time it's been uploaded onto the internet, so unless MG can get Mr Loophole to prove she was bad at make-up, he's a goner.
The thing will build up steam, his mates are dropping him already(DeGea and Ronaldo) and watch out for sponsors. His England future was already suffering (due to the Iceland affair)  and that was at ManU's instance.

My wife has an uncanny knack of developing a migraine whenever I get a bit frisky. That’s her prerogative, and it’s also why I keep my trusty old June 1997 edition of Razzle magazine in the en-suite cistern. No one has to get raped or beaten up.

They were in a relationship so I would guess that going to the police and saying sex was against your will would be very difficult to prove. Lets also remember that there are absolute scumbags who play the victim card as a way of revenge and make it even harder for the real victims to be believed.

We don't know the full story, maybe she had made complaints before and nothing got done about it so she obtained some more evidence. Ethical or not I don't think it matters here, it's quite clear that the woman in the recording is absolutely terrified.

The audio of this is one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard.

Hearing it occur somehow sheds alarming light on the reality of such a crime - one that we generally only ever read about.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but also extremely troubling was the fact that she saw fit to be secretly recording events in the first place. This clearly illustrates that the things we listened to must have happened many times over. Makes me shudder.

Must be a living nightmare for her parents to have endured the graphic reality of this. Difficult to know how one would react if that were your own daughter...

Surely you remand him at the very least for his own protection. On remand, there is a lot more control over what he can and can't do, who can get to him and what he has access to. On bail for an offence of that magnitude with the consequences it will or already has caused for himself and his career, he poses a huge risk of self-harm or even suicide surely?

Doesn’t he need to be charged before being remanded? Otherwise the police would remand anyone vaguely annoying to them.

Let’s assume he had denied it all or gone ‘no comment’ then there is the possibility of his girlfriend refusing to complain , that means everything needs to be proven before any charges can result with a reasonable chance of a conviction.
So bail gives the police time to gather the evidence, such as proving the voice is his, researching his movements and phone activity etc .

No rogue owner will be able to circumvent that, because forces bigger than any football club will always prevent it.

He may or may not get off lightly in the courts. Personally, I don’t think he will but regardless he will pay a big, big price for what he’s done. And rightly so.

Even if somehow that doesn’t come to fruition, I can’t see how Greenwood has a viable career in football thanks to what the public has seen and heard. No rogue owner will be able to circumvent that, because forces bigger than any football club will always prevent it.

He may or may not get off lightly in the courts. Personally, I don’t think he will but regardless he will pay big, big price for what he’s done. And rightly so.

I think Mandy was remanded because he failed to observe previous bail conditions. I think his terms of bail were that he couldn’t have a party at his house and he ignored it.

Yeh the revoking of Mendy’s initial bail were breach of condietiom, but he was definitely released back in to the community with stricter bail conditions because of safety and the profile.

Greenwood will get convicted and go to prison but this gives them time to not only build a case but to also ensure sentence planning is water tight…greenwood would be a marked man in gaol because of his crime, factor in fame, money and the fact he’s clearly a gobshite and it’s a recipe for disaster…

Justice will be served be bailing him doesn’t surprise me at all.
