Stuff aimed at football hipsters usually is. Probably not really aimed at appealing to the locals as much as nerds who like wearing shirts from non league and foreign lower league teams.

Probably an unpopular opinion but it’s horrific. The premise is cool but the design is bad. I don’t remember the vote but if that was the best then I can’t imagine what the other 2 looked like.

Shame because when I saw the email I liked the sound of it but that wasn’t what I was expecting.

Tend to agree on the design.

£50 is too much but, I personally like the shirt itself.

No offence but if I walked up the steps onto that bridge and saw that individual in front of me I’d leg it

Is it the walkway behind Tesco Grimsby?

If it is idiots used to chuck trolleys off it down towards the railway track, I used to work on trolleys there.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

The sizing reminds me of when I once went into Tesco looking for a shirt.

I take XL and after seeing the shirt I liked was only on the rack in medium and XXXL sizes, I mentioned that to the young lady behind the desk and asked if they had other sizes? She replied, "I'm sorry sir, but XXXL is the biggest size we do."

Might it also be due to the mention of 'Clap?

I bet quite a few have caught it near to that bridge.

I quite like the shirt and like the idea of a local business being sucessful and having a go at different revenue streams whilst at the same time keeping the local economy going.
This business has been a real sucess and a credit to the area, hopefully they expand and will go on to bigger things.
If they sell a few shirts good luck to them and I wont criticise the business or the people who work there for the way they look or choose to style their hair.

But surely those sizes cannot be correct...

Quoted Text
Sizing Info
S Chest 48cm Length 74cm
M Chest 52cm Length 76cm
L Chest 56cm Length 78cm
XL Chest 60cm Length 80cm
XXL Chest 64cm Length 82cm
XXXL Chest 68cm Length 84cm

An XXXL chest at 68cm would make it a 27 inch chest

I think I'd need XXXXXXXXXXXL in those sizes

Some of you lads will be relieved to know that if you don't like it, think it's too pricey or don't want to advertise Docks Beer then fortunately it's not compulsory to buy it.

Bit of a weird stance Rodley.

I understand there are many staunch supporters of DB in GY and I am one myself but so long as it’s respectful I don’t see why people can’t say when they don’t like something.

Doesn't look quite right to me...

Great Grimsby badge look too big and the Docks Beer logo too low. I like the fish background image, though not enough to part with £50.

I love the 3 red fishes: 'this isn't a GTFC shirt but we're sure as hell going to make sure that you know who we support'

I like it, but not enough to spaff 50 quid on it.

I can’t be @rsed to look up ‘castigate’ in the dictionary.
Will a Red Cross do ? 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Indeed, but they are buying a Grimsby Town football shirt from Grimsby Town that happens to have a Youngs logo it.

Suppose the difference is that by buying a club shirt you're financially supporting that club, regardless of the fact that you're basically a walking advertising board for Youngs/Bet365/Sharp VideoCam.

Who is this shirt financially supporting other than two business, one local and one not?  That's a genuine question mind, not a criticism.  If people are prepared to buy it then Docks Beers would be foolish to not take advantage of that.

The last football shirt I bought had Pouton 26 on the back so I'm definitely not the targetted audience for this product and I'm sure my view is mute.  But I think it would look better with a much smaller Docks Beers logo, maybe one on the arm like the EFL/PL/NL logos are.

I don't think they are looking to 'take advantage' of anything so much as make something and sell it to people who want it and feel it's worth the price they have set.

Baseball cap, pint glass, coaster, fridge magnet, car freshener — even a plain tee with the logo on the back — all seems reasonable to me, but somehow a football-style shirt feels a little too far for branded merch. Struggling to explain why.

Maybe it's because the motive behind buying a football shirt is because you love the club.

I don't think the love of a business/brand is ever quite the same as the love you have for your football club, so it blurs the lines and leaves me feeling a bit confused.

That's not knocking Docks Beers, btw. They're pretty active and innovative with their marketing. No harm in trying new ventures.

Apologies if I’m missing something here but I just don’t get it. So this is a football shirt for a football team that doesn’t exist? And they want £50 for it?

It’s a novel idea and I guess it’s about raising pride in the town. No coincidence that Docks because heavily involved in the club once a certain person left.

Plenty of other places have done similar, FC Bristol tops have been a while for ages and sell by the bucket load. Retro styled football shirts be it from real clubs or not are a big business and in truth I’d be more inclined to wear this than a T-shirt or trucker hat.

I’m baffled by the folk caning it, nobody’s forcing anyone to buy it…if you want one, get one, if you don’t, don’t. Simples.

The design is good and if it helps to restore local pride then crack on…

That’s fair enough then and if the markets there then why not. It just a bit of a confusing concept to me but I guess that’s my problem.

Personally wouldn't pay 50 quid for a tee shirt to advertise someone else's business, but if It's your thing and you're willing to pay for it, then go for it.

Think it's unremarkable whatever the cost.

I agree - walking around advertising somebody's beer is actually a bit embarrassing,

Surely we can do better than this to show off our great club?

It's nothing to do with the club, I think they have their own version.

It’s nothing to do with GTFC, it’s purely a collaboration they did with COPA who happened to make the retro shirts at town and many other clubs.

I really like them. Too expensive for me, but so are lots of other clothes that I'd wear if I could afford to.
I doubt they'll sell more than a couple of hundred of these, so £50 will probably only meet the production costs for a short run like that. I don't think they're ripping anyone off.

I’d also imagine they’re not expecting to shift that many either, hence the higher production costs and then retail price.

That said, I paid 65€for my Hellas Verona Scudetto anniversary shirt made by copa so probably a standard price or certainly around that price…

I agree with the above on price, this is an industry I’m involved in and when you consider that £50 Includes £8.50 or so of VAT - I would imagine they aren’t making much at all on these.

Don’t have an opinion either way, not my thing but good luck to them.. any business that has survived, never mind prospered over the last two years has my upmost respect.

I don't think they are looking to 'take advantage' of anything so much as make something and sell it to people who want it and feel it's worth the price they have set.

I'd see that as taking advantage of a need/demand in the market.  Fair play to them for doing it.

I can’t see these flying off the shelf at fifty notes

I’ve been in docks a couple of times but didn’t find it anything special but I can see their marketing is first class and almost creates a aura about the place. Is docks a Grimsby owned company or are the owners from Leeds ?

It's the sort of top that I'd only buy after several strong beers... wait a minute, they're on to something here!

Local I think.  To be fair to Will Douglas, who I think is one of the owners, he's very passionate about the local area and regenerating that area of the town.

I think I heard rightly but on the latest 1878 interview with DN35 podcast I'm sure it was Pettit said when he got wind of Tom Shutes interest in buying Town, he reached out to a few people to see if anyone could put him in touch and Douglas was the one who did so.

Yeah I heard him say that.

Will Douglas is from That London but I think his mum is from GY/Clee.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Who cares where he’s from? It’s a business in Grimsby that sells good beer and has a warm welcome… the sodomist could be from Mars for all I care!

Douglas is indeed a Town fan, lives in Grimsby, reads the Fishy and has been a GTFC season ticket holder since 2014.  Two of the other Docks directors live in Cleethorpes and two live in Crowle (North Lincs). None of them are from, or live in Leeds.
