I was hoping for a bit more from the 2nd XI, truth be told, but we looked pretty clueless at times until the subs came on. Qualification seems almost like a procession these days which, on the one hand, probably isn't a bad thing, but on the other, doesn't tend to make many of the games very exciting. I'm in agreement that Southgate should perhaps have tried something a bit different with the formation but I suppose his logic must be that if the team always plays in much the same way, the backup players can just slot into the formation if called upon.
