There must be quite a few affected because we only needed 16 players available from the squad.

I’d imagine they’ll say it’s to do with some not having had vaccinations or close contact or something or other…

A reminder that as much as we all want things to return to normal......things still arent normal and likely wont be for some time.

I dont think this will be the only fixture to get postponed around the country over the coming weeks.

Ho hum.
I hadn't  yet sorted out trains/network card, so it's just the ticket (which has yet to arrive in the post).
In any case,  I can probably make a midweek fixture from the south coast.

We've got the result today which implies the PCRs were done yesterday at the latest. We played Chesterfield 2 days before that so if any of the positive cases played that game, you, in theory, have 15 close contacts from the matchday squad alone.

Anybody who is double vaccinated but not positive doesn't have to isolate. I'm guessing most of our squad aren't double vaccinated but we had 14 pages of that this morning.

They're going to fine teams and players in the NFL this season if unvaccinated players or coaches test positive and cause games to be cancelled as a result.

Shame the same doesn't apply here, might have avoided all of this and saved inconvenienced supporters a load of money on hotels / transport they can't now get back - https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-covid-19-outbreaks-unvaccinated-players-forfeit-cancelled-game

But that’s because they’ve introduced weird systems in America…fining people without a pot to urine in is futile, you and I both know that.

I could t give a intercourse either but your assuming that players have refused to be jabbed…regardless of that being their right, as many shouted this morning, perhaps many are waiting for their second jab…

Unfortunate timing for those who had booked and not the start anyone would’ve wanted to the season. Fingers crossed nobody is unwell.

How big is our first team squad? I'm going to assume we have 24 and 3 of those are goalkeepers.

At the last count we had something like 8 players on the treatment table, so before you throw Covid into the equation we had 13 first team outfield players available for the matchday 16.

There seems to be double standards at work here. Games get called off because some players test positive for covid, yet hundreds of thousands of fans packed into every football stadium hosting a match at the weekend. Not much signs of mask wearing and obviously no social distancing at all.

Have restrictions been lifted, or haven't they?

For those who have booked advance train tickets you should be able to get a refund as an e-voucher, or change booking with no fee.  (I booked ours with LNER and have got an e-voucher refund to use for next train tickets we need.)

P.S.  No chance of a train back after a 19.45 kick-off though !

The club need to show a tiny bit of transparency here, in my opinion. Either loads of players have tested positive or not enough have been double vaccinated and tested negative in this round of PCR tests. We don't need to know names or figures, but just a little bit more explanation would be good.

Debbie won't tell us how many but it definitely seems to be plural positive cases.

'Ordinary' people still have to isolate if they test positive though.  Fully vaccinated contacts don't, which is what is being applied to football.

It is entirely possible that we have a largely vaccinated squad but still have an outbreak.  The club are being a bit coy about it though; I hope we're not going to be under investigation again.

Comments like telling us they are being transparent will come back to bite them if it turns out "we did everything we could" actually translates as we didn't; like last season.

I know we are in a different division but given our suspended fine last season, I think the National League will be very interested to hear what precautions we've taken.

Does this mean that Town fans will have had the longest wait of all clubs in England to attend one of their team’s games?

For the record, we don’t know how many players have tested positive, how many players haven’t been vaccinated and how many of those who have tested positive are currently unvaccinated. We won’t be finding out either, so any anger or frustration is probably best reserved for when the football, eventually, begins.

Covid is still out there, less dangerous for most of us though it now is. Whilst daily cases remain in their tens of thousands, this will be a recurring occurrence this season. Delta does not respect Covid protocols. We’ll gain nothing by going looking for blame.

My sympathy goes out to anyone who stands to lose money as a result of this postponement.

I know you're being tongue in cheek, but this virus is airborne. Transmission by touching things which have been coughed/sneezed on is probably a pretty much negligible risk, but you can catch it if somebody breathes on you from reasonably close in or by spending time in a room where somebody has been breathing (without a mask) for a while. Out in Australia they are being very detailed in their investigations of cases (something they can do because of the relatively low number):

https://twitter.com/JOHNJOHNSTONED/status/1427462314425344001

They know of a case where one kid gave it to another one simply from walking home together (I think they are sequencing the samples so they know they are a genetic match) and also think they may have cases where kids have transmitted it by playing together in the playground.

This being the case, it's likely that it will be possible to catch it from a teammate in training even if you are being careful indoors or from an opponent during a game. The large crowds at football grounds will also have bumped up infection rates, as will the mingling in pubs before and after games. It will be a bit like a mini Euro 2020 in effect, I'd guess. Whether the numbers will be a large enough bump to show up specifically in the numbers remains to be seen.

Does that mean we won't be bottom of the league on Saturday night, as we will have a better goal difference than those teams that lose?

Unless every game played is a scoring draw, but even then Yeovil would be bottom alphabetically.

Unless all the others draw? We would be below Bromley on alphabetical order.

Ours is the third game in the division to be called off so far, so six teams wont be playing plus one more from the odd number in the division, so 7.   Close to one third of the division.  So far.

I'm guessing most of our squad aren't double vaccinated but we had 14 pages of that this morning.

anyone who is double jabbed and tests positive to a LFT test doesn't have to self-isolate but is advised (not required by law) to take a pcr test. BUT if they test positive to the pcr test they still have to self-isolate regardless of whether they are double jabbed.

We’ve had since June to get a striker in, I’m not sure what difference a week is going to make

Point is league clubs will have played two or three matches by then and may have determined that certain frontmen are surplus to requirements, well that’s my hope 😄.

The club are ‘being fully transparent’ apart from telling us how many.

It is irrelevant and none of your business. All you need to know is that enough players have tested positive for the game to be postponed. End of story.

No one even knows for sure if any players aren't double jabbed - just all rumours on twitter? For all we know they all are and a number of players tested positive anyway?

Anyway, its tough, it is what it is.  The main thing is all the players who have contracted it, we wish them a speedy recovery and fingers crossed they just get mild symptoms.

Nobody as a divine right to know who jabbed & who isn't , who can have it & who can't so we dont need to know anymore than covid in camp & enough to get game off , just wish them a full recovery from an awful thing to get

Yes but two of those teams, Wrexham and (I cant remember tuther), one team from each cancelled match, are rearranging a match between them from later in the season so they can both still have a match on the opening day.

The one good thing to come of this is we will be mid-table-ish after the opening day. Better than losing and being at the bottom just above Dover.

Incidentally, the fine we got last season, what happened to it? Was it withheld unless we cancelled any more matches or has it just been forgotten about?

Solihull. Wrexham fans are still waiting to know if they're letting away fans in apparently.

I saw something that said Bromley might be able to play Eastleigh.

It would make sense to rearrange as many matches as possible whenever possible.

No doubt at some point we may have a hastily rearranged fixture or two during the season too.

At least someone around here can get it right, been past Lindum club and Clee Town seem to be having a home game.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

We've managed to get injured.

Are Hurst and Doig stamping on their ankles during training sessions???

It is this incessant negativity and moaning that riles people.

Injuries happen.
