Quoted from 123614
21 Years old, 9 appearances for SW 0 goals.
9 apps in the Championship, 6 starts. A couple of FA Cup appearances to boot as well. Know very little about the lad but that sounds promising for our level.

Was on the bench a lot last season, and got a few minutes here and there for them.
Seen a few comments saying he needs to get out and play, but better than non-league level.
Sounds promising

He's a player from near to his old patch, so no doubt been keeping tags on him for a while from football folk he knows over that way. Captained their Under 18 side and looks a promising lad.

From my Wednesday supporting mate:
He started to get quite a bit of game time towards the end of the 19/20 season and everyone thought last season would be a big break out season for him but barely played. I think he had a couple of injuries but then got overlooked by all the manager changes we had.
The problem is he's a bit too similar to Barry Bannan so never got a look in with him around. Has got good passing range and good energy but possibly a bit lightweight because he's very small for a 21 year old
He's no push over and gets stuck in. But he looks like a 10 year old. It maybe why they're sending him to the conference to toughen up. I really liked him when he was playing at the end of 19/20 i thought he was more effective than Bannan was, much more positive and forward thinking. I thought with all the clear out we had over the summer he would get a good look in this season with Darren Moore favouring youth. But we've bought in about 5 midfielders so i guess his time is probably up with us now. He was our hottest prospect for about 2 years but other players overtook him (and then left).Should be a good signing but needs games to develop

Sounds good, the midfield lacks a bit for me and this is exactly what we need If we can stay with the pack for the first couple of months we will be Ok for a playoff spot which I think is where we should be. Anything less will be a massive disappointment for me. Next at least one forward with some pace. utm

Really pleased if this happens, sounds promising and it means we’ve got a bit more in the midfield when it comes to technical ability.
Just a striker (9), another wide player (7) and another centre back now if this happens.

Just a striker needed now for me and then save a bit to react as the season goes by brining in loans mid season.

Basically just need a goalscoring striker and possibly one more wide man for me now.
Would take one of those two being a u23 loan - ideally the winger.
Though if we could get say Charles Vernham in, he would cover either base so that plus a u23 loan would just about sort us.
Any more noise on the potential of him coming or not - think he came on off the bench against forest the other day so would say its unlikely now...

I understand why some might like to see Vernam come back, especially with the apparent lack of other options on the horizon. But banking on him as your goal scoring striker is a bit of a risk, isn’t it? He did alright during a brief loan spell at Chorley before coming back and looking like a totally different player up until the Covid curtailment, but he’s never been remotely prolific anywhere, has he? Up until that little purple patch the major criticism seemed to be that he looked a really neat and tidy player, but had no end product. If we’re only going to sign one more striker, I’m not sure Charles Vernam’s the right man.

I'd probably tend to agree, but I do think he'd score at NL level and I'd rather have him in alongside LJL/Taylor than nothing - and probably over some complete unknown that would be a complete gamble . I trust hurst to find the right man, and his judgement over my own.

I reckon Hurst will move for a striker about a month into the EFL season, so he can see who is being left out of first team matches and wanting to play.

Hurst is a canny operator in the transfer market, loan or permanent. He just plucks players out of thin air . He does his homework on them so knows exactly what he is getting.
Patience folks, in Hurst we trust

Get him in and give him a go I'd say. It's kind of relative but I liked it when we got that Young lad from Everton.

Dyson? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calum_DysonSeems like he doesn't actually play anymore, which is strange as he looked a capable player EDIT: Dyson announced his retirement from playing in October 2019, aged 23

The Barry Bannan comparison is an interesting one, a genuine playmaker type is arguably what we lack in the midfield.

Excellent news! With his technical ability, strong engine and ability to get stuck in, despite his physical stature, hopefully he'll be the Billy Gilmour of non league.

If he's considered a Championship prospect, he ought to be nippy enough to make his lack of stature less of an issue in the National League. Would be good to have a different type of player available and if he's considered comparable to Bannan, he should potentially be pretty useful.

Feels like a very similar signing to Matete. A player from the higher end of league one who’s flirted with the first team ( at championship level too) and looks technically very gifted. Let’s hope he’s just as good.

Not many people had heard of Liam Hearn, Alan Connell or Padraig Amond when we signed them. Here's hoping PH can pull another similar rabbit out of the hat.

I guess the rough diamond market is a bit tougher right now as anyone from the levels below will be lucky to have played 10 competitive games in the last 18 months. That means any rough diamonds at this level, like Tshimanga, can command a much higher fee.

I've a feeling any rough diamond will be coming from higher up the levels. Either a McAtee situation or someone from the Under 23 leagues.

Must admit all the Positivity around him sounds encouraging.
Opinion from a former boss of mine who is Wednesday fan:
Decent footballer, tidy on the ball and keeps things ticking. Very small though, needs to play games but will be interesting to see of he can cope with National League toughness

If he is decent (which it sounds like he is) he's no doubt going to get targeted by some of the meatheads that play in The National League. Let's hope he's up to dealing with that side of the game too plus he gets adequate protection from the officials.

If he is decent (which it sounds like he is) he's no doubt going to get targeted by some of the meatheads that play in The National League. Let's hope he's up to dealing with that side of the game too plus he gets adequate protection from the officials.
I wonder if this means a midfield 3 of Coke, Fox/Clifton and Hunt more advanced with McAtee leading the line.

Good to see us sign a couple of young 'uns with potential, but I'd love to see us round off the signings with 1 or 2 experienced forwards who have done the rounds and have decent records over a number of seasons.
Players who can come in and hit the ground running. Proper first choice types.

100% this. Coupled with today's signings, which look genuinely very good prospects despite their youth and experience, I think that would drastically improve the complexion of this summer transfer window. Gut feel tells me that two experienced strikers in their prime years might be a stretch, and perhaps one senior pro plus a youngster of a similar pedigree to today's new loanees might be more realistic, but time will tell.

I must admit this was my thoughts. Based on how we've lined up in pre-season, I think a 4-2-1-3 is going to be the main system this year. I think we'll tweak it and flex a little but it'll be the one we default too more often than not. For the two holding midfielders I see Coke, Fox and Clifton competing for those roles. Spokes and Khouri as the back-up. 5 into 2 is more than enough. The one that links both the midfield and attack I see as McAtee, with competition coming from Scannell. However, Scannell's injury doesn't seem encouraging at all so I suspect that Hunt has been brought in to compete with McAtee in that role. From his YouTube clips he does have similarities to the better bits of seen of McAtee in that he sort of drops off a little bit, buzzes about and makes things happen, arguably from a slightly deeper position. I really like the look of McAtee but hope he isn't the one leading the line. Firstly he doesn't look like a striker, definitely not someone who can play down the middle and hold it up for others. But I also think he's going to be far, far more effective when deeper and with a little more freedom. I guess ultimately it's good to have options.

Welcome Alex I hope you enjoy your stay.
We have have a good blend of youth and experience and can see us making the play offs even without a number nine.

Looks promising but as its only a deal until January, if he's successful he will very likely move to a league 2 team mid season. Still we can worry about that in the future

Fingers crossed he does that well he is back in their first team squad by January. Then all parties have won.

Or his loan is extended until end of season! Obviously if he does well then there is a chance he may go to a league club but also Wednesday and Alex himself might prefer to carry on a good thing.

That would be perfect. If he is doing well and enjoying himself, why move to a mid table league 2 side?

Didn't we have a similar situation with the lad from Sunderland,Embleton was it? Did he stay after Jan? I seem to think he might and did the opportunity to play at Palace in the cup help that? My memory could well be wrong! Could do with a good cup run and a prem side in Feb to sway him to stay!

Very good performance today, he looks a step ahead of the rest of the team with his fitness. He will keep Clifton out of the team, more skill and better awareness of the game.

He was excellent and played all across midfield. He defends well, reads the game and keeps the ball moving. Fox and Coke holding with Hunt having a free role is a lot of responsibility for a new young member of the squad but he has all the qualities to play much higher.
Our movement second half was poor apart from McAtee who was overworked. Difficult first game for Bapaga who struggled with his touch and the stronger tackling at senior level.

Another thing I noticed about him was that he was always pointing and shouting to the other players, like trying to direct play. A good sign to have someone in midfield like that.

4-3-1-2 a midfield & forward line of fox coke hunt mcatee taylor when available & sousa wouldn't be too shabby at this level , not saying this would be our front six but just guessing
