Everton have suspended a player today and we know from news articles that he is 31 years old.

It doesn't take much piecing together from a few legitimate sources to work out who it probably is.

Seems odd that this story can be publicised, I’m not saying he is but what happened to innocent until proven guilty ? Even if he is not charged he will get crucified by a large proportion of the public .

It's nothing to do with social media, it's media in general. If this was in the paper pre internet, everybody would assume he's guilty even though there's just an allegation right now.

Although having dealt with quite a lot of police incidents, they need a pretty convincing amount of evidence to actually do anything, so it doesn't sound good.

An arrest like this, as you say would be unlikely on minimal evidence, especially given the profile of the person involved.

Social media is no different to print media, just quicker. Look at the poor old fella accused of killing Joanna Yates; print media had him hung drawn and quartered for just looking odd…

Since he's out on bail they probably have something substantial already, they are gathering further evidence but usual procedure these days for online offences where they need to gather evidence to charge somebody is just to release people pending an investigation after taking evidence from the home and an interview. The former comes with conditions and having to check in at a police station to show you're still in the area and the latter has no conditions. Hopefully one of the conditions is that they are holding his passport so he doesn't sodomist off to Iceland, was easy with the EU to get people back from EU countries but since Brexit they all want to play political hardball. No child needs an investigation and court case to drag on.

Aye, in my other job I sit on the Strategic board for MAPPA…I’d imagine there’s a significant amount of evidence being gathered…I’d imagine part of his conditions are to report at the local cop shop.
