Everton have suspended a player today and we know from news articles that he is 31 years old.

It doesn't take much piecing together from a few legitimate sources to work out who it probably is.

Seems odd that this story can be publicised, I’m not saying he is but what happened to innocent until proven guilty ? Even if he is not charged he will get crucified by a large proportion of the public .

This is the fundamental issue with social media (says us commenting via social media), whether the guy is innocent or guilty he is already guilty in the court of public opinion.

It's nothing to do with social media, it's media in general. If this was in the paper pre internet, everybody would assume he's guilty even though there's just an allegation right now.

Although having dealt with quite a lot of police incidents, they need a pretty convincing amount of evidence to actually do anything, so it doesn't sound good.

An arrest like this, as you say would be unlikely on minimal evidence, especially given the profile of the person involved.

Social media is no different to print media, just quicker. Look at the poor old fella accused of killing Joanna Yates; print media had him hung drawn and quartered for just looking odd…
