No experience of what it takes to get out of the National League (unlike Hurst  ) so should be an interesting watch.

"Parkinson’s time at the Racecourse Ground is likely to be featured heavily in part of a fly-on-the-wall documentary, in which cameras will follow McElhenney and Reynolds’ running of the club."

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

It might go very well for Wrexham but I think it has all the hallmarks of an utter disaster. Two guys with absolutely no idea about Non League football (or football in general really) running a football club with the guidance of Shaun Harvey and his merry men of idiots.

Parkinson is a manager on his way down with absolutely no idea of the league, now where have we seen this episode before?

It's reminiscent of Brian Little at Gainsborough.

If you are a regular listener to Undr the Cosh podcast you will know that no one seems to have a good word to say about Phil Parkinson.

Rowan Vine & Steven Davies were particularly scathing about him and what sort of man he is.

Could be a very good appointment for us.

Other than PR I’d be really surprised if they got their hands dirty day to day.

In terms of managers I’m more then happy with Hurst going into this season. He knows the value of creating the right environment with players who have the right character which is a good starting position. He’s also savvy enough to know that getting out of the NL will be a building job, anything else will be a big bonus.

Oh and the new assistant manager is Steve Parkin who is in the top 3 of the Undr the Cosh 💩 list with Phil Brown & Malky Mackay.

On the surface I thought it was a good appointment. But maybe I'm still viewing Parkinson through what he achieved at Colchester and Bradford, and not what he's done since.

The trajectory for him has been downhill... but it's been the same for Hurst! One minute he's in the Championship managing Ipswich, then it's straight into non-League via Scunny!

I think that's where I am/was at.

I didn't realise Harvey was now involved at Wrexham too.

I was someone who, at the time, felt the purchase by Reynolds and McElhenney could only be a good thing for Wrexham.  But having not followed the story and then briefly caught up on it now, it feels like it's got car crash all over it.
They've acknowledged they don't do football so to speak but have just brought in individual and individual to try and advise and looks a bit like too many cooks to my eye.

Either way, makes me feel very comfortable (dare I say smug?) about our current set-up.

Yeah, Undr the Cosh is where my first train of thought went. Seems to be highly unlikeable. Probably highlighted a lot because Parkin absolutely hates him.

The Steven Davies one is great. Nigel Clough isn't portrayed how I thought he would be at all!

Wrexham is an interesting one, their shirt sponsors are now TIKTOK which obviously is a global giant, no doubt that was secured by their high profile owners, who by all accounts genuinely want to help the club, and their fans are all taken by them, like I have a Wrexham supporting mate who genuinely believes in 8 years they will be in the premiership and in 10 years in champions league purely on the basis that they can outspend any other team.

But their owners don't know football so they are relying on others to run it and that could lead to it all come crashing down through no fault of their own, if something seems too good to be true then it generally is.

I had a decent drive last night so listened to both parts of the Steven Davies one. Up there as one of the best, Nigel Clough is a character. Interesting at the end that he said Barrow were trying to sign him for the run in this season despite him retiring a year ago!

But Parkinson doesn't come across well at all. Loved the story about him telling Davies on Monday mornings that he will be playing Saturday. Parkinson called Billy Clarke and James Hanson in on Friday so Davies walked in with them. Instead of telling him to leave he changed from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 and called a midfielder back to tell them they weren't playing!

He's a coward when it comes to releasing players too by all accounts.

No harm in dreaming.

Town to win the Champions League and Cleethorpes Town to win the FA Cup before 2050.

You heard it here first

That's because they're going to rename the Cymru Premier the CYMRU Champions League. ; which is where Wrexham will end up.

I mentioned this whole thing about him being universally hated by all on Undr the Cosh on a thread on 1FF and a Colchester fan on there reckons that every Colchester player in the side that went up that he's heard talking about Parkinson absolutely loves him! So who knows?! Must be a bit of both really, the fact that Parkin hates him so much leads me to think maybe there's some kind of agenda there on his part. However, some of the stories are pretty damning. Particularly the one you've mentioned about the formation change. I'd imagine there's definitely no smoke without fire.

Would be interested to hear which other ones you've enjoyed? I'm relatively new to it having avoided it for ages because I was annoyed at the Town/Paul Linwood stuff! I think I'll probably end up getting a copy of his book at some point. Just scrolling through seeing which others I've enjoyed and noticed there's a Simon Ramsden one. That'll be my next one for sure. Not a huge fan of him, but I enjoyed the Danny Mills one too.

WTF, did I say that?

If Wrexham perform better than us then they deserve to finish ahead of us. You are quite clearly a sad fooker if you want other teams to fail so that's the only we can get promoted. To get promoted you need to be better than the rest, not rely on other teams being crap or badly managed.

Yes but the worse your opposition is, the easier it is to get promoted. I don't think it's sad at all to hope that all the other teams in the NL this season are really rubbish and underwhelming.

I've got a lot to catch up on but the Martin Allen one is great. It's a 2 parter. Runaway did one which I listened to way back when Jolley was our manager. I listened to Danny Mills the other week and that was a good insight into the England set up but listen to Simon Ramsden because that is an absolute belter. I didn't realise how much of a hardcore Sunderland fan he is and how much he hates Newcastle. I won't say any more than that!

The Clarke Carlisle one is deep but brilliant. I made my missus listen to the Lenny Pidgeley one because it just summed up how I feel and act when depression kicks in.

Carlton Palmer is well worth a listen and so is Aaron Wilbraham too, although he does think the sun shines out of Runaways back side.

Next season is not going to be a 'walk in the park' for us.
There are the Notts/ Stockport Counties,  Chesterfields, Wrexhams etc. fallen league clubs like our selves plus the Suttons coming from nowhere.
They, like ourselves, have invested heavily in commitment, optimism & expect instant success.
I am up there with the positivity - but will not be on a rant if we don't take off like a rocket

I’ve simply pointed out the opinion of a couple of former players of Phil Parkinson which points to him having limited people skills. I couldn’t care less where Wrexham finish this season apart from behind Town.

Have you ever seen any stories about Paul Hurst treating players poorly? I haven’t.

I think Torquay will be the team to beat given their manager is a National League winning expert. If we finish 1 place above them we’ll be the Champions in my opinion.

It's a tough league for sure but we knew that already. I think Wrexham will struggle this season but there is still Torquay, Notts County and Chesterfield who will all fancy themselves. Not sure how Southend are shaping up either.

I've never been one to think finishing in the play-offs is a failure, especially in a division where only champions go up automatically.

I get that Ryan Reynolds is a rich actor but he’s not in the same league as a lot of other rich men and women we’ve never heard of who have controlling stakes in English clubs. Their fans are deluded if they think they will walk it to anywhere near the Champions League.

The Paul Linwood interview was another podcast, not Undr The Cosh

I personally didn't enjoy the Danny Mills interview, thought he came across as a arrogant t**t. Mark Crossley is brilliant on there, so many great Clough stories. Andy Johnson (ex WBA) is hilarious, ditto Marc Bircham, Glen Little (the Stan Ternent stories are brilliant).

Danny Collins is on the Pateron version. Doesn't say an awful lot about his time in but made a point of saying how good our support was (especially away from home) and Parky even says about how many we bought to FGR on a Friday night.

I like UTC but find it really hard to listen to when I’m driving as they seem to struggle to get the sound / mics set up correctly which means you hear some people talking clearly and other people like they’re sat on the other side of the room.

Someone actually thinks Wrexham will end up in the champions league, the mind boggles!

If they quit English football, join the Cymru Premier and win it, then they'd be in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, so not too outlandish...

Ah nice, will listen to all those cheers. Listened to the Ramsden one, was indeed a belter. He seems sounds, I always liked him as a player. Interesting that he attributes a change in formation to his lack of game time. I can't remember us switching formations in 04/05, but it must have been then as we were 4-4-2 all season in 05/06 as far as I can remember. Surely the fact that we had Macca at RB was the main reason he wasn't starting all the time? That story about Michael Reddy was pretty amusing too.

Ah yeah, you're right. It was I Had Trials Once or whatever it's called wasn't it? Yep listened to the Mark Crossley one, that's quality that one you're right. His Clough impression is fantastic.

Will probably get the Patreon when I've exhausted the free ones.

Slade arrived in 2004 and built a team to play 3-4-3. We played well but didn't score and Slade gave in to crowd pressure and changed to 4-4-2 after a few games.

Jason Crowe was the right wing back in that system so Ramsden will have been the ball playing defender alongside Rob Jones and Justin Whittle.

Slade played 343 generally for all of his first season (04/05).

Seem to think he changed it when we went away to Derby in the cup near the start of the 05/06 season. This paired G.Jones and Reddy up front as a partnership and the 442 stuck from then on. (Obviously G.Jones scored the winner in that Derby game).

Ramsden was used as the ball playing central defender/sweeper in the middle of the back 3 in the 343. But was pretty much only used as a right back (but wasn't first choice) in the 442 season.

I didn't think we used THAT many players.
