It is becoming increasingly likely that Sutton United F.C will be one of the teams replacing us in League Two next season, fair play to them, does anyone know if they are financially backed by someone or have they earnt their top spot?

Live in Sutton, about 10 minutes from their ground. Definitely earned and not bought, they've had some investment but nothing too significant as far as I've seen. They do have fan representation on the board though, which is a positive thing in this day and age.

There's a guy we work with who is a massive Sutton fan - he travelled up to Scotland and across to Ireland (I seem to think) when they were a guest team in the Scottish Challenge Cup the other year. He would be disappointed to miss out on a trip to Blundell Park next season, that's for sure, as he goes to most of the away games.
Funnily enough, he told me the other month that the team isn't anything special - they were just finding a way to get the results. Doing pretty well at it if the table is anything to go by! It would be good for a team not bankrolled as so many are these days to win promotion, though I don't know how this will affect our chances next season if the other 'bankrolled' clubs are still down there.

Have they gotten rid of the ‘plastic’ pitch already or can they do that in the Summer?

Yes I saw their chairman interviewed about it. He isn't happy that the EFL won't accept plastic pitches and said it could cost up to 500k. They might have to do what Harrogate did and start the season playing at another ground.

My mate, a Chesterfield fan thought they had the advantage with all home games due to their artificial pitch, high bounces etc.

To be fair their away record's nearly as good as their home one.

Still there. They have plans to replace in the summer if they go up - as they likely are. Bittersweet for me, one hand I’m happy for them as they are a good community club and deserve it more than some, but having an away game five minutes from my door will be missed!

I remember QPR's plastic pitch in 1982 when we played them twice in a week. It was like watching Subbuteo - poor Batchy deceived by the bounce so often that his beard got caught like Velcro

It is good to read of a club with players playing as a team, and not a load of prima donnas playing in a team.

To be honest when they went 1-0 up in the first game I feared the worst with every ball they played up the pitch We seemed to deal with it ok though so I had high hopes for the following week in the cup We never got in to that one at all though and they breezed past us with a 3-1 win.... don't think that it was so much the pitch that day, just that sadly we didn't turn up ( except on the terraces!! )

Sorry, traditional clubs aren’t bankrolled. They receive investment. It’s only horrible “new” clubs like Salford, Fleetwood & Forest Green who are bankrolled.

'Proper football clubs' is the correct phrase (and it must contain the word football, so you sound like a football pundit talking about a football match).

Went to both games like you say the bounce was ridiculous which obviously gave them a massive advantage , we lost both games took hardly any to the first game but filled the bottom tier in the cup plenty of aggro afterwards aswell.

that was unexpectedly top stuff - somehow we found a way of getting up the side of a stairwell ( got a memory of pallets being stacked up) so they couldn't attack us from above ( they were in the top tier) and then it just spilled over into the streets outside

When my proper club become my non league club and my local non league club become my football league club, it is a sad, sad day. I don’t even have the silver lining of going to the ground 200m from where I grew up to watch town play. Never mind, Bromley isn’t too far.

Remember this too. They were chucking stuff at anybody. This was not as grim as the town fan who managed to hit one of those chucking the stuff in the face with a full beer can. Living close to Loftus Road, it said in the Evening Standard later that the lad lost an eye. So rarely to those that cause the trouble get hurt, but on that day the Met were not there in sufficient numbers to head off trouble. Been there many times since without this sort of trouble.

I cannot remember which of the half dozen or so times I've been to QPR it was but on one occasion their fans were lobbing stuff out of those blocks of flats on South Africa Road(?) as we were being escorted from the tube station.

Think that was the game my brother got flattened against a wall by a copper on a horse, and then dragged by said copper by his hair for about 20 yards. He'd done nothing to warrant this act.

As Tom Jones said, it’s not unusual. Same thing happened to my brother-in-law at Coventry.

So there we are; a division below Sutton, Harrogate and Barrow. Two divisions below one of Morecambe, Newport or Forest Green. Potentially three divisions below Lincoln. The same division as King’s Lynn, Weymouth and Maidenhead.
Lord above, how did it come to this?*

Its our fault......pretty sure the previous board made that clear, if only we hadn't have had that pesky Operation Promotion we would be in lining up against Fulham, Sheff Utd , West Brom etc at the Peaks Parkway Extreme Fentydome come August.

By balancing the books, lack of investment on and off the pitch, and absolute failure to secure the services of a competent manager. I could go on but you know the rest.

Got a cracking pair of rose tinted sun glasses for twenty shillings in Skegness, put them on and we finish mid table above Solihull Moors. Plenty on here would take that before the season starts by all accounts because we have new owners and in ten years...

As much as we all female dog and moan (with complete justification) you know we will all be there for Town first game of the season. The players come and go.... the shirt doesn't change. I'm personally well up for non-League - I dont want to be here, but we are so lets just enjoy those away days. Did someone say we are the Man Utd of non-league? As I get older I realise that whether Grimsby play in League 1,2 or National League means very little difference - we will never win the Champions League - we just want a bit of footy ...a few goals... decent footy. The Buckley years (late 80s early 90s) were amazing....i used to drive over from Sheffield to each game...happy as a pig in poo. When they were in the conference Welling away was a great day out ..... Not sure what the point of my post is (too much wine) but I'll have a slightly abusive relationship with Grimsby Town so long as they exist

A cracking retort to my post. Sums up what being GY is and I hope the away days happen, I am actually thinking we'll be saying this same time next year though, really hope to be proved a stupid conspiracy theorist.
