Who should we keep for next season ? Our best player this season has to be Elliot Hewitt, not many contenders but Elliot has been immense since he’s been in the back four. It could be his best position, I’d like to see him signed up on a longer deal. Good attitude, energy, grit, determination, the stuff they make Docks Beers from, Hewitt’s Ale.

Far to soon to make any decision for next season.

Disagree, knowing we're down gives us an advantage. Hurst can start preparing his squad for the 1st of what I'm assuming is probably another 3 to 5 years in the conference

I think Matete and Maneyese are both young, fit and good enough , but i doubt either see themselves as non league footballers, Jackson has some promise and could be retained relatively cheaply i would think to make keeping him sensible , Hewitt has looked good in the last few games but in his previous time to date he hasnt been consistent, is that due to position or is he himself upping his game to attract suitors .....outside of those i think i would start again completely.
Need a solid squad full of players who can realistically/ are capable of playing 30 plus games a season, not players who are constantly convalescing or being nursed through.

Macca, Hewitt and Clifton. I would like to see Jackson in a full game before the end of the season before commenting. Lamy is Jekyll and Hyde.
I'd ditch the rest and rebuild, we haven't had a consistent midfield capable of supporting any form of attack. The midfield also are over run when the opposition attack.
Apart form, say 5/6 quality players to build a team around will be consistency game in game out and being fit for 90 mins. I'm fed up of watching a 45 min team, be it 1st or 2nd half.

Its not who we should keep though is it? We are probably going down and who is going to want to play non-league football? I am sure that the likes of Hewitt will probably attract the attention of league 2 clubs and who would want to take a pay cut by going down?Hopefully we can pull off a great escape, but if not............

Regarding Elliott Hewitt, when we go down he would have been relegated from the league at 2 clubs on the bounce, obviously I know it isn't all his fault and he is more than capable of league 2 football but 2 relegations in 3 seasons on his CV potentially won't look very good.

It’s absolutely what we should be doing, the more prepared we are for Non League football the quicker we’ll be out of it imo.

Elliot Hewitt will not be here next season which ever league we are in. He has been the one highlight of our season, too many clubs have noticed him.

For everyone who is saying they would keep Jackson, he is contracted until 2022 with an option for a third season.
The out of contract players I would offer contracts to Hewitt, Clifton and Pollock regardless of which division we end up in.
I would pay up the contracts of Scannell, Williams, Rose and Waterfall, it's an expensive lesson to be had but they are either clearly past it or they are not up for it and going through the motions stealing a living.

If a player isn't at fault for a team being cr*p who the f*ck is?! (obviously management and board carry some responsibility as well). I suspect this is half the problem with our players and possibly modern players in general - they don't have a sense of responsibility and can always walk away from a (football) car crash saying 'it wasn't my fault'. If we get relegated several of our players will sign for a year with another sh*t team and go through the motions with them, almost as if their year at Grimsby didn't exist.

There's some players in here I'd forgotten we still had! What a waste of money, time and effort Sisay has been.

I meant that obviously it isn't solely all his fault and nobody else's. The players board and management are all to blame.

For me, Payne, Scannell and Rose could all be big assets in the Conference next season. Granted they haven't been fantastic this season but I think we'd be making an error just building a squad from scratch. I think Rose looked better in a better midfield, Payne has a superb record at that level and we'd be mad not to at least have somebody with that experience there. Scannell, probably too expensive to keep but before his injury he was playing very well. Habergham is worth keeping to see if we can get him fit, he'd be more than good enough for the level below and the fact he's even still playing is testament to his attitude imo. Lamy is another one I'd keep. It sounds a bit mad to say we'd keep even a couple of the current crop but I think we need to look at the bigger picture here. We absolutely cannot afford to spend 3-4 seasons building up a squad from scratch, we saw how that worked out last time.

Sorry PL I have to disagree with those first three I wouldn't want any of them next season, at times all three haven't looked that bothered when they have played. I also wouldn't bother with Habergham as come next season that will be nearly 2 seasons that he has hardly played.

Pretty much agree with this but personal, I think we've seen how good a fully fit James Hanson can be over the last few weeks and even if we only got 30 games out of him, he's an asset at whatever level we end up in so I'd keep him. And I'd maybe considering offering Habergham a month-by-month deal to prove his fitness

Scannell and rose have both been big disappointments for me. Rose would only be any good if we are playing 3 in the middle or sign an absolute beast of a box to box midfielder for a 2 (i.e another disley)

If we hadn’t signed Payne this season, got relegated and then signed him, on paper it would look a belter of a signing given his record in NL. I still firmly believe there’s a decent sized gulf in class between the two divisions and provided the players have the attitude, I’d be willing to work with them as opposed to building from complete scratch.

How is scannel a disappointment when he’s been injured? Played well when he’s in the team to be fair. Don’t think hurst fancy’s him tbh.
Lamy has barely played ever and does not look out of place and when he’s had a run of games could be a diamond.
Payne should stay but we do need a finisher in the team.

What has happened to the 4K a week Kyle bennet? League 1 to nowhere and probably struggling to get a new contract in the league because let’s face it if you can’t get in a team getting relegated from league 2 then your bang in trouble. Injured or attitude or both?
