A good sign that he's not going to allow previous performances and loyalty over ride what is clearly a big weakness for us at the minute. Using his head rather than his heart. Macca has done very well for us and for the first five or six seasons he was here he would earn us far more points than he lost us. But he's slowly gone downhill to the point where this season he is a complete liability.

I would hope that on this occasion he would be objective about it. His performances this season have been well below the acceptable standard, and probably significantly poorer than Nick Colgan was in our relegation season. He needs to take some time to reflect and try and rebuild his game.

Nail, hammer, on the head and a whack. The time for sentimentality went at 4.52pm on Saturday. He always tell us that he is his own fiercest critic. He can have no complaints if he finds himself on the bench for the next 4/5 games.

Colgan was truly awful. I’m not sure he made a save that season, they don’t compare in terms of the season they’re having. I understand that people think he’s not having his best season, but it’s not like that one. It wasn’t just the howlers it was his genuine disinterest and fear of getting hurt. I’m not sure if he’d had a bad injury before he joined us but he was terrified between the sticks.

Oh I don't disagree, but Macca has made error after error this season, without very many of his usual redeeming worldies (at least that I can recall). People are speaking about him calmly and objectively because he's earned such respect from Town fans, however if he, like Colgan, was a newbie here in his first season he'd have been getting absolute pelters for some time now. I really hope he can get his shít back together because I have a lot of time for the bloke. As of right now though, he deserves to lose his place if an adequate replacement can be found, as seems to be the case.

Steady decline in teams he's played for
Don't believe that list of teams he has been with is in chronological order. I go and watch Gainsborough Trinity and he was last at Trinity on loan in 2016. So i hope he has been getting some games somewhere else since then! He must have been very young when on loan with Trinity, so the next bit could be way off the mark, but he only got a club stato performance score of 5/10 during his short time there. Personally don't remember the lad, but at the time they were in a higher league( Conf North) than they are now. Sorry to be a bit dour on this but just telling it as it was back then. Like i said, it was 5 yrs ago so he could be a different keeper nowadays(hopefully).

Time seems to make players better or less bad than they were when they were actually playing for us . Colgan was immobile, couldn't dive, couldn't jump, couldn't catch and inspired no confidence around him. Macca has had some howlers this season but to say he's worse than Colgan is just funny. Nothing wrong with dropping McKeown and playing Eastwood. I think it's right, based on his form this season.
Difference being that I think Holloway dropped him because he questioned McKeown's quality. Hurst won't doubt McKeown's quality, I think it's about taking him out of the firing line, giving him a break in the hope that he'll come back stronger (and better).

Hmmm. Personally I think he's finished as a number 1 goalkeeper at GTFC. We'll see what happens in the summer when Hurst brings in a new goalkeeper.

could this be one of those 'trial loans'? i.e. see how well he does and whether he likes what we've got to offer, then possibly go perm in the summer? There's obviously a vacancy and I can't really see him going much further at Sheff U

Sadly, this is the right decision right now. We are in dire, dire straits and for whatever reason Macca has not performed to the level we are used to seeing him at and has tangibly cost us vital points this season. Those points, plus what the residual effect of turning those wins and draws into draws and defeats has done to momentum and confidence in the squad are a significant part of why we are where we are.
I'd love him to find his form again, but you have to accept that it's a difficult place to bounce back from for a goalkeeper who will be 32 come the start of next season. I suspect that so long as Eastwood performs adequately and stays injury / suspension-free then we've seen the last of Macca for this season at the very least.
What happens in the summer will depend on a number of factors, in particular what league we're in, but as is the case for much of the squad right now his career as a football league professional is hanging precariously in the balance.

Macca statement on Hurst return is now looking ironic.
Mind u he did say everyone had to earn his place in the team...

Maybe the guy needs a rest. If he had Covid he might still be suffering. Long Covid. Until now we haven’t had a better alternative so he’s been kept in the firing line. Add in the faffing about in front of him, its no not surprise if his form has suffered. Wouldn’t write him off yet. 32 is no age for a GK.

Be a solid back up keeper & he has come back before but we do need a keeper who can command his box better. I think us older fans who witnessed the difference Beasant made during his loan appreciate the difference a good keeper makes and this was reinforced when a young Henderson played those few games albeit there was the mistake and bus incident which followed!!!
Was it also Wayne Henderson we had on loan in Newell’s great escape who was outstanding particularly that Easter game at Notts County.

McKeown was in form when Henderson arrived.
And Henderson was a young lad looking for experience, Eastwood is 24 and looking to play rather than bench warm I suspect.

That did cross my mind. New boy could be just a kick up the @rse signing, though Hurst took him to Scunny and played him.

I really think Eastwood is in as back up. Be surprised if there’s a change in goal on Saturday.

As an example, Arsenal sold Martinez to Villa start of this season.. a benchwarmer, nothing more than a number 2 - but he has been exceptional for Villa
Maybe this Eastwood will do the same and push for starting especially at 24 yo
