Certainly looks nailed on. Gap starting to grow between where we are, and a position of relative safety,
Looks 2 from 3 for me, us Barrow, and Southend.

Us and Southend stand out as the two worst teams, both with by far the worst goal differences. It's genuinely impossible to see where the next win is coming from.

When Hurst took over I put £1.50 on us being promoted at incredible odds... I've been had. Absolute dire football and the only saving grace is we aren't there in person to witness the collapse. Other teams have gone from strength to strength after their promotions and we froze in time.

4 points off safety, the team above us have 2 games in hand and taken 1 point from 3 of our closest rivals. We deserve to be relegated. I hope Holloway is satisfied with himself.

In football there is no such thing. Needs to show some improvement otherwise he will be gone by summer and we will have to bring in someone else to get us out of the conference.

It is another bizarre saga to add the annals of GTFC. Proven manager at the highest level of English football, to then completely annihilate a League 2 club. It all seems dodgy and I doubt we'll ever know what the hell the plan was behind Holloway and co.

We're not down yet. Every team down there has had a run as bad as us at some point. Stevenage and Barrow have 5 wins, same as us. Difference being that they have both got three of those wins in the last 6 games, so it is possible to put together a bit of a run and i think we still can once we get a bit more used to the new players and manager.
Stevenage are actually in really good form and have only lost 2 of their last 11 games. People are looking at their league position and not really at their form. Teams currently higher up the division are having poor runs at the moment.
Yep, things look bleak right now, but there is still a lot of games to go.

I think we need a total clear out in the summer.
Cant really think of any of the players I would keep.
We need to start from scratch and sign players who know how to play the flipping game.

Yeah that’s the way I see it, obviously odd to have promotion but no relegation but let’s be honest that’s what we’re hoping will be the situation in L2 so can’t complain. Not sure I can stand going back down but it’s what we deserve.

Coming next:-
Newport, Exeter, Tranmere, Crawly.
Can anyone honestly see many points from that lot?
We are due a fluke result at some pointy. So maybe we will get 3 points. But by then the gap to safety might well be half a dozen points, more if Barrow win one of their games in hand, plus worse goal diff.
The chasm is about to open.

Certainly not arguing that Hurst inherited a mess but have to say when he was appointed I expected some upturn in our results especially given our opponents in these fixtures with the exception of Cambridge. Disappointed that Wright wasn’t brought on, or Scannell on the bench, as I think they provide a different option but hindsight has always been a wonderful thing. Why is it only town that doesn’t get a new Manager bounce?

We were going down before he stepped in the door. I'm no fan of PH(didn't want him back) but I know he is trying his hardest to turn this Holloway/Fenty mess around. When Holloway came to the club all he had to do was get the players we had a bit more organised because we had some decent players where as Hurst had nothing and has had to bring in player and hope they will hit the ground running which has not happened. Like I said im no fan of PH but I will stick with him and yes give him a 'free pass' he deserves it for taking on Fentys sloppy seconds.
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

We don't get the bounce because the issues at the club are deeper and more structural. The takeover will change this, I'm hopeful for the medium / long term, but I fear there may not be enough time this season to turn the oil tanker created by false economies and incompetent leadership around.... If it wasn't for the hopes we will be competently led after the takeover, deckchairs on the Titanic would be a better analogy...

No point in stating the obvious, we didn’t and there were far too many of us who didn’t care who we released because we stupidly believed that Holloway would bring in better quality replacements, I still cannot believe how easily I have been taken in by that poisonous dwarf. Bringing in Glennon, Benson Clarke & Grandie ( whatever his name was) last season had us all rubbing our hands in expectation when we should have been washing them to rid ourselves of Holloway and our pathetic board.

My only hope now is that the consortium take a totally different approach. I hope they realise that you get nothing in football without investing in good players. It's not cheap, but the payoff is that you bring success on the pitch which brings with it financial rewards, generates interest in the club, and builds positive momentum.
I think that is at the heart of Fenty's disasterous stewardship. He apparently believes that 'football fortune' comes first, and leads to better things.
But the causality is exactly opposite.

Unpopular opinion on a day like today but.. I think we'll stay up. Like the look of the new signings, one or two decent players to come back from injury, plenty of games to play. Southend, Stevenage, Barrow, Harrogate and maybe Colchester are in this fight and I'd back us to be out of the bottom two by the end of the season. We'll look a lot better after given time to gel in a few weeks time and two wins on the bounce can change circumstances dramatically..

Can't see us winning two of the next four games to be honest. By then we might be more than six points adrift.
But I agree that we need to win a string of games to lift us out of danger. A point here and there is not good enough at this point.

We have been in this before - haven't we just - and there is a natural tendency to cling on to as much hope as possible. A few weeks ago it was half a season left. And the window. And we playing teams around us. And the National league might fold. Here we are a few weeks on and the window is about to shut, we have got one point against the teams around us, and we have just lost to an unforgivable goal with the last kick. Suddenly the games left start to drift away. I remember in 2010 holding out hope right till the death, refusing to accept it could happen, and no doubt I will do the same again; However, I think this team is a lot worse than the one which went down last time. This team just seems to lack any cutting edge whatsoever and is terrible at the back. I suppose all relegated teams are the same, but I don't share your optimism that we can get out of this mess. I hope you are right but with some difficult games coming up it will take a miracle.

It is difficult to be accurate about forecasting the future, especially with football matches. Otherwise, we would all have won a fortune on the Pools.
We won away at both Div 2 teams that were impressive in the FAC. Who expected that?
We are dreadful now. With new players and Hurst we can just get over the line by the end of the season.

The new players and Hurst have made us worse. Look at the results and the table
Habergham is an improvement on Preston, the two midfielders are an improvement on Morton, Taylor, Spokes, Williams and Rose, Payne is a improvement on Green and the three young strikers. Question mark over the centre half at the current time. In the first half today we played some good stuff. We deserved a point today and the 93rd minute equaliser would have been the morale booster we needed. Hursts side are noticeably better than Holloway’s, but confidence is shot. Once we finally get that first win, I’m confident others will follow. The biggest concern is how soon it comes as the games are drifting by.

Us and Southend stand out as the two worst teams, both with by far the worst goal differences. It's genuinely impossible to see where the next win is coming from.
I said exactly the same on another thread and some male private suggested I sounded like Churchill.

Can't see us winning two of the next four games to be honest. By then we might be more than six points adrift.
But I agree that we need to win a string of games to lift us out of danger. A point here and there is not good enough at this point.
I can't see us getting a draw.

I don't know how Fenty can sleep at night.
If he really loved the club like he always said he would have gone long before now. It's been clear for years he didn't have the clout to take the club forward
We have stagnated since we got back into the league like that was the height of this ambition.
Since then it's like we've been waiting to go down. A couple of narrow escapes but our luck is about to run out.
When the consortium first showed interest he should have done every in his power to let them come in and do what he could not. Instead he was concerned about getting his cash rather than the best interests of the club . The takeover should have been done and dusted long ago . Instead Fentys petty inflated ego has delayed it and put a step nearer non league for a second time under his stewardship. Great flipping legacy Fenty. You deserve intercourse all back.
It was clear neither the club or Holloway wanted the season to start without fans. Christ Holloway mentioned it in every flipping interview he gave
We let every player out if contract to simply walk away s year ago . Made the rest take pay cuts. Furloughed all other staff....btw the pitch is shocking and the worst can remember.
Did absolutely nothing over the summer hoping the season wouldn't start. When it became clear it was we then brought in a load of players CHEAP. Unknowns from non league and kids from academies.. CHEAP.
Lacking quality which has become blatantly obvious.. The worst team I can recall watching in 45 years of following Town. And that's saying something with the Lyons and Roberts eras. And the last team to get relegated.
Fenty should be ashamed. The buck stops with him.

The last twenty years have been about greed you look at our big stand and its held up by large bamboo sticks the stand has urinals not fit for purpose can you see Fenty or any of the directors q 25 minutes to use the loo short comings with renowned well established proffesionals at the club under cutting their pay absolutely shocking to be honest no wonder we as a club struggle to bring players here and now we had a idiot as a manager pulling the wool over all our eyes talking the talk and adding insult to injury "I left grimsby in a good position " Ithink the head says we've had it but the heart keeps saying no we all hope Hurst can do something special and turn it around we have to back him and Ido at least we have a real manager not a Runaway UTM

This league is absolute shite and on their day anyone can beat anyone. Take things game by game and with a bit of fighting spirit it might just be doable. Hurst and his team work best when they are underdogs.

Oh well, if we do go down we might have a decent season for a change !(better than this shite year after year)always the optimist eh ?
I cannot believe any true GTFC fan may even suggest we might be better off in the National League, we could be there for years.

I'm not sure Ipswich fans would agree with you.

I don't get comments like this. Are you suggesting Paul Hurst was the only manager/ex manager that would be trying their hardest to keep us up. So far there has been no improvement in fact the Scuntrhorpe game was one of the worst this season and that cannot continue otherwise we could be relegated long before the season ends.

Having been through it before, as much as it is something we all don't want to go through again, the sad reality is that we are just that little bit more hardened to it this time(non league football). Last time it was awful, an insult the end of the world. It felt bad, really bad. None of us knew how to cope, knew how to deal with it. I became a supporter of a new club, " Grimsby Town, Grimsby Town ". That's because i got fed up of having to repeat which team i supported twice in every conversation with a " plastic " fan of pick a premier league team brigade, who would say after my first response of " Grimsby Town "... WHO?. This time(there is still chance it wont, for various reasons) if it happens, i personally know it will for me not be as bad. I had some of my best times as a supporter since the glory days of the late nineties, following Town in non league. It was fun in so many ways and those trips to Wembley on the way back to league football, were some of the best ever Town days out. So i know we are all drunk off beyond belief at the way the club has been run by Milk Tray Man, but F**k him. We have a new dawn(please God) on the horizon and in the words of The Chumba wumba song " We get knocked down, we get up again, were the famous Grimsby Town". UTM

I’m genuinely terrified what the consequences will be when we go down. Last time it was a novelty, there was something fun and intriguing about Ebbslfeet and Boreham Wood. That’s all gone if we go down again.
If we’re ever allowed back in the grounds again, at this rate it won’t be this year, then the atmospheres will be toxic. It took so much effort to get out of that league and we have just repeated the same mistakes over again with equally predictable outcomes. Doing everything on the cheap being the primary one. We will have battle fatigue when we’re back down, I could honestly see the club sinking further and further. I can’t really express or even comprehend how I feel about it all at the moment. I’m that angry, upset and despairing at what’s been allowed to come of our great club. All of it totally avoidable.
It was the most Grimsby Town thing ever the way we dealt with Covid. I can’t believe I’ve been lectured for umpteen years on how well run we are, how financially stable we are and then when a sound financial footing should give you an opportunity to exploit that we inevitably flounder and go backwards like I’ve never seen before.
We all blame Holloway and it’s right we do but Covid clauses have Fenty penny pinching written all them. Quite frankly we deserve to go down painful as it is to say.

Mate, it ain't nowhere near as bad as it used to be. The way the leagues operate now is TOTALLY different to how it was back in the 20th Century. Back then, a committee of chairman decided your fate. A team could have won what would now be called The National league by 20 pts and still be denied entry to The Football League. Nowadays, as long as you meet a few mainly ground safety requirements, promotion back if you win it, is guaranteed. I see the National league nowadays as just another tier of football. A drop down isn't the life sentence it once was. Take my local non league club where i live now " Gainsborough Trinity ". On several occasions during the 20 century they won what is now called the National League and were eligible for promotion to the Football league(and most of us nowadays would accept it as a given), but not back then. They were denied entry because...well..they just were'nt sexy enough at the time. Can you begin to imagine how that must have felt for the supporters of the "other" GTFC?. At least nowadays we know what we have got to do to get back. UTM

4 points off safety, the team above us have 2 games in hand and taken 1 point from 3 of our closest rivals. We deserve to be relegated. I hope Holloway is satisfied with himself.
No come on. He left us in a better position than when he came. I'm not sure how, but isn't he always right?

You seem to be forgetting the huge loss in income. When we went down in 2010 we were told we would be losing £500,000 a season. Do you think the new investors are going to be singing the praises of going to the likes of Bromley, Solihull, Kings Lynn, Wealdstone again.

It concerns me that maybe GTFC isn't a priority with the new owners.
Isn't this just part of the overall package?
Even without a purpose built new ground, perhaps Blundell Park may become just another housing development.
