Think we could do a lot worse than signing krystian Pearce and Abu Ogogo this week. Our team is seriously short of physicality and leaders and these two certainly tick these boxes. Both waterfall and pollock have struggled this season, and we have no real competition for these now that ohman isn’t around. Krystian Pearce is free having just finished a short term deal at Solihull, he was always impressed for Mansfield (whom he captained) and actually finished in the league two team of the year when they finished 4th 18 months ago. Just turned 31 so certainly got a few years in him yet.
As for Abu Ogogo, he’s just finished a short term loan spell at Dagenham (where he earnt good reviews), and was PH captain at Shrewsbury during that successful 18 months. Another who would add some physicality and leadership into central midfield which for me is the area where I genuinely feel we are most lacking. Hewitt, Clifton, rose, Williams have not done nearly enough.
Certainly think these two would improve us, along with the addition of habergham (he looked an instant improvement on Preston despite not playing for 2 1/2 years) would give us a much better chance of survival. Of course I still think we need a striker (As well as a fit Hanson) and another embleton/benson kind of central midfielder is needed also. It’s a shame Jake Taylor turned us down because he is that type.

Easier said than done on Ogogo. Did well for Dagenham and will likely have good offer in our League.

Won’t be easy signing any half decent player. Like I said, he was hursts captain for 18 months so hopefully that might be a pull.

I think Danny North, Kristian Dennis, Matt, Podge, Wes Thomas and Cardwell would all be better than what we currently have up top.

Amazing to think back to the calibre of striker we had not so long ago. Mendonca, Lester, Reddy, Birtles, Rees, Woods, Livvo, Drinkell, Wilkinson, Kabba, Allen, Nielsen...

As you don’t have much to go off regarding Pearce, why do you think he would be any better than Luke Waterfall right now? The Luke Waterfall who is younger than Pearce, was rock solid for a couple of years at Lincoln in the NL and L2 and then earning a move to a L1 side.
Pearce’s career has been on the downward curve for the best part of a decade now.

Annoying when someone takes the time to put forward two potential and attainable signings, along with accompanying information, and gets red crossed. Cheers for the summary.

I would take both of them.
Ogogo was Shrewsbury captain under Hurst when they made the league 1 play offs and he would certainly add some bite to our central midfield instead of having Danny Rose walking about chickening out of tackles every single game.
Pearce was excellent at Mansfield and I believe has only been at Solihull to keep match fit whilst out of contract, and before people say why was he out of contract, well good players sometimes can't find another club for any reason that doesn't mean they are excrement...
Could either of them be any worse than what we already have?

Not really a reason to sign them Aaron “ could they be any worse” I will wait this week and see who PH can bring in for us

Everyone drops in a stinker every now and then. Under a good coach (Cowley) he proved to be a very steady defender at this level. Under 2 ... I’ll be kind, less able coaches, in Jolley and Holloway he has struggled. From what we have seen of Hurst in the past I think he is more likely to get a tune from him when things settle but we’ll see. I am in complete agreement that on the whole Waterfall has failed to impress for Grimsby so far and that is putting it nicely. I do think he is one who can up his game several levels though.

I think Pearce is a good shout. He's more mobile than what we have and being an ex captain of Mansfield, he will be an organiser. Only 31, plenty of experience, been playing, so will be ready to go. Was at Solihull as it's local to him.
Ticks a few boxes.

Generally at Lincoln he was playing with far, far better players than he is now which would cover his obvious deficiencies. Raggett, Bostwick and Dickie were his most common partners in defence and all of them are either playing at a much higher level than he is now or, in the case of Bostwick, has had a much more successful career. There's a reason he had played all of 9 games in the FL before his 27th birthday; he's a clogger. Not the worst defender we've ever had but bottom half of L2 at best and far too similar to Pollock to be a successful pairing.

Everyone forgetting Ogogo has already beaten us this season with Dagenham? Not much of an achievement beating us but definitely looked like he still had a lot to offer going on that game.

More recently how about Podge, Omar, Thomas and Clarke. Admittedly none have played very high up the football pyramid since leaving us, other than Omar, briefly.

It pains me that we are back to classing potential players as 'they couldn't be any worse than what we have'... this lands at Fenty's door.
4 years ago we were talking about players being useful upgrades to help us push up the league that we had just spent years getting up to.
That promotion squad was the most successful Town side I have watched (I know I have chosen a great time in Town's history).
Oh to be signing Kayden Jackson's again, and having a Bogle-esque goalscorer - rather than the utter garbage I suffered through on Saturday
Lets get this takeover done toon - UTM!

By all accounts Ogogo is very high on Hurst's radar. If it's a likely transfer is for someone with far greater connections to the club than me to answer.
Regards Pearce, from memory he is/was a quite limited defender from a mobility perspective I thought? We've got two lads who can head it all day long, we need someone who's a bit more mobile in my eyes.

Ogogo is a capable player and would be a competent signing (if true). Hurst knows him and he was a key part of his Shrewsbury side. I think he would bring a different dimension to our play going forward and he would compliment other players around him.
Pearce has always been a solid defender at this level but the fact he was signed and then released by Solihull in a matter of months shows you that even at 31, he maybe going down hill. Mansfield obviously chose to release him for a reason and he is at an age where some defenders have 3, 4 or 5 years left in them (Danny Collins etc). He clearly didn't do enough to extend his short term contract at Solihull so I would be very cautious about signing him without taking him on trial for a couple of weeks first.
In all honesty, I can't see Pearce being on Hurst's radar at all.

I think Pollock has gone off the boil lately - but maybe that's because he is being drawn out of position covering for Preston who is getting no support from Rose and Bennett - which puts more pressure on Waterfall who also has to cover Hendry when he goes forward to try to assist the attack who are absolutely dire. So it's not Waterfalls fault that we are letting in goals it's Hanson's for getting injured.
