My expectation is that they will allow elite-level sport to continue. The government will want to retain as many positives from these dire circumstances as possible which don't have a great overall impact on Covid transmission. I imagine top sport and television programming will fall into that bracket.

Whether it is ultimately viable will depend on whether clubs van keep enough players free of the virus to consistently stage games, something I think is increasingly in doubt. That mess will be left for the Premier League and EFL to sort out, no doubt.

I'd be surprised if Boris puts the kybosh on the season tonight, but much less so if it is forced to fizzle out all by itself.

If it means the season is abandoned with no promotion or relegation then I'd take it!

It is much more likely to be based on points per game as last year, very bad news for us

haven't you watched any of this season's games?

btw - as i said in another post, just as important is what happens to the National League. Not elite , and the majority of clubs haven't even played a third of the season.
fingers crossed for the season to be null and voided in all non league footie

There’s over 20 games left. It would be harsh for any team to be relegated just yet. I’m not just saying that because we would get the hook, I’m saying even if Scunthorpe were bottom it would be unfair.

Plus Lincoln would be promoted. (Shudder)

Surely they won't do that this season, with less than half the games played.

I would think that if the football season is stopped then this season will just be declared null and void.

Unfortunately Lincoln are going up mate, it’s the new normal. Let’s just worry about ourselves (and I do worry about it, intensely).

Yes, on another thread someone pointed out that at lest two thirds of games have to be played for PPG to apply.

That means another eight or nine games for us.

I think a lot of teams would vote for that

Think we need to stop worrying about Lincoln and Scunthorpe and get our own house in order soon.

I am confident that we can get an organised unit capable of finishing well clear of relegation unless the COVID situation prevents that.

If anyone cares and I am wrong come May, I have no doubt someone will remind me.

Glass half full, or is it quarter full. Either way well be ok.

There’s no way the season will end now. Too much time remaining, even if they suspend match’s tonight. There’s months  to go to the end of the season, vaccinations coming, slowly at the moment I know.
So for me, we have time left yet.

Surely and especially with new management and impetus we can at least get out of the bottom two rather than crying for null and void.

By the time we get to the end of January some teams will have at least 6 - 7 games in hand. Looking at the National League Dover have only played 10 league games compared to Torquay who have played 17. This situation across the leagues is only to get worse.

They do have the option of taking a break of a couple of months from L1 and below. Only the Prem and Championship are really constrained by the Euros. No reason why the season couldn't run to June or July if necessary. Plus fans would be back potentially for the last games.

I agree in principle with this but in practice doesn't UEFA demand all football finish by date of champions league final? And I am sure that would go double for the euros.

I think due to the extreme nature of the situation they should show flexibility but I am not sure they would.

Question - how is the national league being funded without fans? They don't get football league solidarity payments and they will have far fewer ifollow equivalent sales. Did they get a grant from premiership or govt to help?

It might end up being the case that the National League decide to call it a day for the season during the next month or two if infection levels get too bad. If this were to occur, it could be a good thing for us given the current run of results! I can't imagine that there could be any promotion or relegation with such a large chunk of the season still to be played.

I suspect it will all be a lot clearer by the end of the month, one way or probably the other.
