The government will want to retain as many positives from these dire circumstances as possible which don't have a great overall impact on Covid transmission. I imagine top sport and television programming will fall into that bracket. Whether it is ultimately viable will depend on whether clubs van keep enough players free of the virus to consistently stage games, something I think is increasingly in doubt. That mess will be left for the Premier League and EFL to sort out, no doubt. I'd be surprised if Boris puts the kybosh on the season tonight, but much less so if it is forced to fizzle out all by itself. A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.
