Honest and pragmatic.

Said it’s easier to play when you’re two nil down, nothing to lose. Expects three back in training this week, hoping to get a couple in but said, quite rightly, that there might be some who won’t be up for the scrap.
Also said he’s not under pressure to get some out in order to recruit.

Refreshing wasn’t it. Nice that we can add and no requirement to move out, but he will look to do that anyway.

Yep, really good interview. Clearly understands all the issues with the squad and seems to have a lot already underway to sort them.

I liked his comment where he said he was pleased with the work rate but that's a minimum expectation and 11 dogs running around doesn't make a good team.

Did I also hear him say if he can't get players out he will have to split the squad. does that mean he is happy to send some players to train with the youth squad?

Not sure they will train with the youth squad but I believe he will work with what he considers his best 20 players and the rest will be either moved on, loaned out or left to trot around with others who have been discarded.

If 3 are ready to train, would that be Wright, Scannell and Taylor? Hanson anywhere near( no silly comment) or is Spokes out injured as well as after two reasonable performances he’s disappeared. Port Vale, Southend and Scunthorpe so chance to move forward or..........?

Its definitely Spokes and Wright they were mentioned as being back on the grass. Not sure about the third, does Macca count?

Well, I think a few of the current squads days are numbered listening to that. The sub text being that Holloway has left him a steaming pile of dog sh1t, without him actually saying so. Reckon there will be some in the current squad who'll not get another look in should some new faces arrive next week.

His interview filled me with alot of confidence, he obviously will be working non stop all week to put things into place turn things around. I feel alot happier knowing that he his at the elm to sort out holloways mess he left. Also good to hear a normal interview different to Holloways interviews where he just went on about covid and coming out with odd comments or having a go at JT.

Thought Tondeur and Croft had a very undisguised dig at Holloway today, pity the same question wasn’t asked 2 weeks ago.

We can’t wait for him to get fit. Looking at the January fixtures we need to be winning three of the next 5. We’ve only one Tuesday night game (Barrow) so PH has a bit more time to prepare us between games, but he needs to be working with a first choice strike force ASAP now.

So refreshing to hear someone who’s just talking about the job in hand and not himself.

I’ve said this twice this week and based on what Hurst said before today. He is committed to working with a smaller better squad so if players come in, at least half of the current squad would have to go out either on loan, play with the juniors or gardening leave.

I do expect Hanson to make a remarkable and very rapid recovery though, perhaps an ultimatum, be be fit to play or leave the squad.

I dont think he can do much with the strikers we have at the moment ,, They have all had good chances to hit the net  and  failed repeatedly  week after week

Give me the dour Yorkshireman over the Bristolian Bullsh!tter any day, good interview I’m confident Hurst can bring in the players to get us out of this mess and will move on the deadwood which there is plenty of.

This is very true, and no doubt this time last year we were all thrilled at the vibrancy and energy Holloway brought to the post-match interview compared to the defensive, dour Yorkshireman who used to manage us.

Part of this is just the fickle nature of football fans, and we’re all guilty of it. When you’ve just had something that’s gone disastrously wrong, it’s natural to warm to the polar opposite of that, and in football manager terms Paul Hurst is the complete antithesis of Ian Holloway.

But I think in the time since Hurst’s departure, and in particular the demise of Ian Holloway, we’ve learned something. Paul Hurst is not the world’s greatest orator, nor does he try to be.

He speaks with honesty, sometimes to his detriment, but if the past couple of weeks have taught me anything it’s that authenticity is more important than the slickness or entertainment value of a man’s words.

Ultimately, I do honestly believe he’s what we need right now, just as Alan Buckley was in 1997. Since 1988, some 33 years, only Buckley has done more tangible good for the club than Paul Hurst. Only those two managers, and perhaps Michael Jolley, have left it in a better state than they found it. That says a lot about the running of the club over the years, but credit where credit’s due.

What we need right now is a plan, structure, effort, and sound recruitment. More often than not, we got those things from Paul Hurst and his teams. Whether the football or the post-match interviews were always entertaining is out there for debate, but also absolutely irrelevant right now.

January is a massive month. We play all of the bottom five (minus ourselves, obviously) plus Port Vale who are 17th. Keep in mind the season may not even run beyond that or even that far, the next few games are absolutely crucial.

I don’t give a fig whether a manager sounds good in interviews. Give me a manager who wins games like Buckley and Hurst over a manager that sounds good in the media any day of the week. I never understood those who disliked Buckley or Hurst for how they came across on the radio- we don’t employ them for that.

I was disappointed he didn't mention covid and that the season should be cancelled.

Well we realised how good Hurst was when he left.

Not going to be a popular opinion I know, but find it a bit boring/irritating when clicking on a post thread and finding it full of puns like on this thread. Perhaps a separate subsection could be created for puns (like the Non Footy one on here).

I like humour as much as anyone, but would prefer to not trawl through a bunch of puns when reading opinions about the actual post subject.

I think we appreciate the honesty of Hurst, as that is a marked change to what we’ve “enjoyed” for the last 12 months, both on and off the field!
I also feel that Paul looks like he has become a little more relaxed during interviews, though this might not last if things don’t turnaround over the coming weeks.

I think Hurst has been honest yet diplomatic.

If you got him on his own, away from cameras etc I’m sure he’d say this side is flipping woeful and the previous regime have left the place in a disgrace.

Sounds like he defended our current strikers a bit the saying it’s mostly the the team not the strikers. Can’t hit the target if you don’t get the service can you?

Hoping Hanson gets a run without injury and with that I think him and Jackson could be very good.

I thought you were just trying to be punny!

Bear in mind that Hurst needs the current players to perform for a few more weeks yet and needs to try and get the best out of them. So slagging the entire squad is hardly likely to help.

Hopefully some of the players will be motivated to up their game to try and prove their worth.

Getting Hanson and Wright back would be a massive boost. We could really do with them before the next few games.

Wouldn't it be strange if Hanson's calf is suddenly better and he plays in all the remaining game to help us climb to safety.

I've seen this suggested a few times, which is more or less saying that he didn't want to play for IH and was bigging up his injury. If that is the case, I don't want him at the club. He's a well paid professional player and we have been crying out for an experienced forward all season. He should be busting a gut to play, no matter who is in charge.

Or it could be possible that Runaway was throwing him under the bus and Hanson isn't the kind of character to create a Twitter account and give his side of the story like Mohsni did.

There are 2 sides to every story, Holloway's story is that he is injured all the time, Hanson's story could just be that he is fit but Holloway is refusing to play him for whatever reason.

Same story with Mohsni though, Holloway claimed he was unfit, didn't play him yet Mohsni says the opposite. Let's not forget Holloway was full of sh!te, simple as that.

Agree about Holloway being full of shite, after believing he was our messiah, but don’t believe Hanson would feign injury, he’s 34 with little time left in the game after becoming a professional footballer quite late in comparison too many so will want to play as much as possible whilst he can. Unfortunately since he joined us after those first two golden months we’ve only had sneak looks at him because of his injury record and that’s unlikely to change.

I’m hoping Hurst can bring in two new strikers and allow Hanson, along with Gibson and Jackson Jnr, to become our back up strikers and then we might have some threat up front and decent back up.
