Well we have a race horse trainer who can’t train a competitive horse, an accountant who doesn’t want customers to give money for nothing, and a lawyer who defends breaches of the law. What a fine collection of directors we’ve had.

Apparently, it refused to race as its trainer was no longer working with John Fenty and that’s not what the horse signed up for 😉

He should have put 50p on it and should it have won he'd have got the sum total of his £500 back that he has invested in GTFC.

You forget the director who though 500 shares were worth 100,000 pound.

Then after saying he was here long term and was going to leave a legacy

Said horse has now gone to stud.

Owner is demanding £600000 a pop for all the money invested.

Who?

Who is M C Chapman?
Mr Michael Christopher Chapman is a race horse trainer (according to company house) and is located at Market Rasen just across the road from the course.
He his held in very high esteem by the biggest bookmakers in the country as being a guaranteed profit maker for their companies.
The last horse that he sent to the races and won with was on the 8th Nov 2018 the time before that was 24th June 2016. If my memory serve me right on both occasions it was on the eve of a blue moon.
More recently he has had little success with 200 runners and not a winners to show for it.

He had a very strange way when sending out the training invoice to the owners that the cheque had to be made out to M Chapman and not M C Chapman and I believe there where three M Chapman's living at the address during the time of my dealings with him.
He made the local press a number of years ago when he had one of his lunar winners that the horses success had been achieved by feeding it with Royal Jelly capsules!
It is said that before becoming a race horse trainer he was well known for being an insurance salesman although wikipedia cannot confirm this hence (unconfirmed).
With not wanting to go on any more I hope this clarifies who our small shareholder (£500 in 2002) on the board his, that being, a race horse trainer with no known ability of being a horse whisperer.

I know someone who bought a ‘race ready’ horse off him that didn’t make it round one circuit of Market Rosen before being consigned to the glue factory.

I had one like that but it was at Southwell on a New Years day.
Don't think it went to the glue factory though, could have finished up in Tesco burger for all I know.
Alas, I still got one of those invoices.

Had quite a few minute shares in different horses over the years, but now shares are way too expensive.

I was at Southwell one day with a runner, got chatting to Michael, when he suggested that we transfer the horse to him, 'I'm a good trainer I am ' was his remark.

I made a lot of friends through ownership's, and notably a Newmarket trainer now retired, who still remains a very good friend.

Thanks for replying but I was actually being a little on the sarcastic side as I'm not sure anyone would know him if they walked past him in the street never mind at BP.

Does Michael Chapman seriously regard himself as a good trainer? His record is absolutely terrible. I suppose he has passion for it mind.

Horse racing again.

Some years ago I had a share in a successful racehorse called 'Glenbuck'.

In 2007 I took the plunge and bought a decent share in my first racehorse.

Since then I have had a further six horses mainly with two of the North's
top trainers, Kevin Ryan and David O'Meara. Over the years and with a
couple of the horses turning out to be decent I've enjoyed meetings all over
the country, including four big meetings at Ascot and about a dozen at York

Standing in the parade ring, and better still the winner's enclosure is something
very special, especially when you've pipped Sir Alex Fergy's and Camilla's horse.

Better still, standing with Shaun Pearson and Macca in the stand at Ripon watching
our horse burst through to win. Not surprisingly Shaun nearly hit the roof, and more
surprisingly, Macca was as cool as a cucumber.

Brilliant !

Well if it keeps him employed as a business despite seemingly being awful at it then he must make money out of it somehow......🤔

Probably earns his living by selling the horses for a profit.

My God I’ve got £500 in shares, does that mean I can have a seat on the board?!! #UTM

I think he also had 75k in directors loans he put in some years ago. Unlike John Elsom who at the time bought shares he did it as loans.

My God is that all he has, I had no idea. Chairman of a football club with only £3,000 in shares? That’s disgraceful.

Has put a lot more than that into the club as Rob says.

Ironically I was at the race in 2018 that his last horse won!

Rob also mentioned that Chapman loned the money to the club. £75k doesn’t go far in football. Quite a broad definition of ‘put a lot more into the club’.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Ei Ei was one of his top horses, winning just short of 180K, running in some big races too with distinction.

Sadly lost his life falling at the final hurdle at Market Rasen when he was well clear and destined for victory, surprising cos he was normally a chaser and a good jumper.

There is no requirement to own shares/equity in order to become a company director.

Being an executive director of a business is an employment role. Being a no executive director of a business is generally an advisory or ambassadorial role.

Spot on there sigone, 9th June 2004 remember it well broke Mrs Russells heart
A good 20+ lengths clear and then that happened, though I have always believed running it twice in four days was more than a little harsh and that last hurdle proved to be one to many.
Even Lee Vickers the jockey that day once confided in me that he was of the same opinion. Still in contact with Lee (we both started out with Andy Streeter) who is now a track rider in America.
So once again sigone spot on but alas that was 16+ years ago when I had a full head of hair and weighed less that Frankie Dettori does now.
Wonder what position Town was in on that date.

Yeah I believe the loans/price to buy him out stands at around 50k.

Or at least that was what he said when he asked us to buy him out.

As for 'lack of wins' vs finance - I believe there are other sources of income such as selling/dealing in horses.

Furthermore - there is/was some family money there.

In recent times, Lee has been riding work for James Given who retires from training this weekend. The yard is being taken over by Michael Herrington- I’ve got a small share in a 3 year old.

Not football but I know, just a passing interest in our race horse trainer board member on a lockdown Monday morning

Covid is not stopping our Mr M C Chapman who's got a runner at Donny today Luduamf.
Only ever won a 6 furlong seller in 2016 (Richard Hannon trained), maybe a future Cheltenham Gold Cup winner!
100/1 in early morning betting show, 250/1 in it's last race.
