When his name got mentioned I bought Jason Stockwood's book "Reboot", more out of curiosity than anything else. It's quite business focused, but it's worth a read nevertheless.  The one thing that shone through more than anything was how completely different his approach is to anything we've got at the minute.  I mean, it's not even leagues apart.  We're talking galaxy levels of difference.  It's definitely the type of thinking and mindset I want in my football club.

Here are a few lines from a chapter called 'Give Back Control'.  "A good leader in today's world isn't just looking at what they can personally influence or make happen; they are working to build a business that, in it's everyday operations, effectively functions without them."  Jesus, can you imagine the current board taking that approach?

This guy will move this club forward.  I'm not saying he'll turn us into a Champions League outfit or anything like that. But he'll move us forward in ways we couldn't dream about before.

Amongst the other things he talks about in his book are clear that it's not just about him or whoever's at the top.  It's about everyone.  His book talks about employees but if we transfer that to the football club, we're all stakeholders.  I personally want a football club were our views are actually considered, valued and utilised.  My feeling is that someone like Stockwood wants that too.

This is a golden opportunity for the club, we can't let it slip.

That is encouraging.  The leadership and management of our Club could fast-forward about 50 years.

It’s always been said that a true test of leadership is how work and a team functions when the leader is not there.  The business should be able to work effectively without the boss.

Comes across as genuine and forward thinking as DHM says.

I listened to this guy a few weeks ago on the radio and he really struck me how genuine and forward thinking he was, never afraid of a challenge and always bang on the nail with investments and his philanprathy.

If you like that, have a look at the house Shutes owned, developed & sold (or was selling, at least) -

I know it’s a bit crass to be poking round people’s houses, but there really is no comparison between these people and Fenty.

I remember when John was lauded as the saviour
He literally could do no wrong. Like Ian, fans writing love letters to him, shaking his hand in the street, walk on water, the Stockwood of the noughties, almost kissing the ground he walked on.
Oh how times change 🤣🤣🤣

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

This has always been a sticking point for me. Not the fact people may not have played ball but the response from the club.

Does he think by using that sort of language he connects with the favs? If he does he’s an idiot.

Those little elements of public unprofessionalism are reasons why folk won’t get involved or buy his bullshit. Openly calling folk who’ve a track record of dr elopement and success ‘tyre kickers’ is just childish and small time.

Hull City were referred to as ‘Dull’ at the stadium open events back in like 2015 or whenever. It’s just petulant and not funny.

The ice bucket challenge, the snapping of a kids flag because Newport were better than us, moaning about his car being scratched etc.

It’s unimportant and doesn’t need to happen. People don’t find it funny nor do they want to hear it.

A bit like his nonsensical rants; yes John, we get it, you own the club so you’re better than us big just stay away. Petulant responses because you don’t like what folk are saying don’t clear anything up, they just turn more folk against you.

Tyre Kickers is one of those funny phrases, isn't it? Indicating people wanting to be involved with the club are time waster because they allegedly have no money.

Why is it funny? Well, because the majority of the club's current board are in a very similar position.. No actual money. Ironic really isn't it?

He literally could do no wrong. Like Ian, fans writing love letters to him, shaking his hand in the street, walk on water, the Stockwood of the noughties, almost kissing the ground he walked on.
Oh how times change 🤣🤣🤣

When?

I'm not saying it didn't happen, I just can't remember it.

What I do remember is Fenty wheeling himself out at every possible opportunity to revel in the limelight.

Tranmere away in 2004 - he was there waving in front of the fans with Daniel Khan from the college as if he was some sort of hero for appointing Nicky Law who managed to secure relegation from a lower midtable position.
Spurs at home when we knocked them out in the Cup - Don't forget about the oranges....yeah, nice one John.
Bournemouth away - celebrating on the pitch the fact we had stayed up because two other teams had received massive point deductions.
The aforementioned Ice-bucket challenge, easily the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen at Blundell Park, including some of the performances of the last 15 years.

Need I go on?

Oh don't! I come out in a cold sweat thinking of it all. Like a lot of us, I was at Bournemouth, and I don't think I have ever been as gobsmacked by someone's behaviour. I think a lot of us knew then that we were going to be in serious trouble in the years to come. Any normal person would have got back to his desk and plotted how it could be improved in the future, how to run the club differently and how to get extra investment. Not JF, no siree. It was all about him to be carried shoulder-high from the pitch by our over-excited fans who had seen us survive by the skin of our teeth when any other season would have seen us relegated to non-league.

Let's face it, it is about him, isn't it?

What about the orange?

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

If Stockwood takes over I imagine the club shop online might get a tweak or two.

Just to reply to the start of this thread, I have also bought and read ‘Reboot’ in the last couple of days. It’s an excellent, thought provoking book about how to trial and effect change - also very forward looking. Some great examples of how he has motivated and incentivised the people he works with. Fingers crossed that he gets to apply some of this thinking at GTFC!

Stockwood may be a tech entrepreneur but is he computer literate? That's what impresses John.

Funny enough the club are half way through implementing a full new online and inhouse ticketing system , club shop and membership card system by all accounts. season tickets will now be card based and tickets will be electronic for those who want it to be. surprised  its not been explained by the powers that be already

Nice one! I first saw this at Old Trafford 14 years ago so it’s nice for the club to finally catch up to 2006.

Becauee no fornicator at the club will understand what the intercourse it is or how it works...let’s face it, teams have had those systems for nigh on 15 years now...

For those talking about Fenty always wanting to be in there when something exciting happens...remember Exeter away at Christmas the other year...a mega win and there he was on the pitch like he’d pulled off that worldy save Macca made...just couldn’t resist...

We’ve certainly never had anyone with that level of experience, insight and breadth of thinking in the board room at GTFC unless they’ve come with the visiting side of course.

Come on John sign the papers, sell the shares and get on with rebuilding your reputation and political career.

He certainly impresses.

The club needs free thinking business minds who want the club to grow, progress and become a sustainable part of the community that makes money and grows into the 21st century. These individuals need to be transparent, and I don't mean posting 10 statements a week when they are sore and triggered after a couple of glasses of wine, they need to engage with fans and show how the GTFC can move forward on and off the field.

There is no place anymore for politicians who put themselves first and boardroom dinosaurs who fall in line anymore.

I can only pray that if the trio do come in that they will be good for the club.

He talks about vision, no not Vision Express down St Peters Ave John, but entrepreneurial vision latching on to new ideas, talking them forward.

These new investors aren't waiting for football fortune to drop out of the sky into their laps John, they've got their hunting gear on and are going after it, step out of the way John you're not in the same leagues as these guys.

agreed. you can see why the negotiations would be difficult. These guys and their outlook are an anathema to a small town mini Trump narcissist like fenty, who believes money=power, and it's my way of the highway

Please enlighten us Fillipe. Should hardly be a surprise if a successful London based businessman has an executive box at a football club other than the one he actually supports though. If he 'entertained' his clients with a box in the Findus Stand I have a slight inclination he wouldn't be anything like as successful as he actually is.

I listened to Jason for 14 minutes.  He is clearly a very positive person and optimistic by nature.  He mentioned his start in life in Grimsby and working as a labourer on the docks. Money and technology are not the main drivers in his philosophy.  Keeping the customers happy is and developing core personal values.

His company has been voted no1 out of the top 100 to work for nationally. Twice in succession. An exceptional achievement and evidence of getting everything right consistently.

He has a good head for creating a successful business and bringing his staff along with him. Recruiting high-quality people.

These are valuable transferrable skills to our Club.

The current Board at GTFC could not be more inept and outdated by comparison.

Will this mean that don't have to write everything in a ledger by candle light anymore??
Progress indeed.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Wow, Jason couldn’t be further from what Fenty is. That’s probably what Fenty’s scared of; handing the club over to someone with vision and integrity (John for legal reasons I’ll tell you that comment stems from your dealings with Alex May when you had knowledge of his past convictions). The narcissistic sharp object will be having nightmares about the club being taken into the 21st century by these people. At least Fenty’s delivering a revolutionary ticketing system though. Also, Rob in GY is one of Fenty’s mates.

Even Fenty himself must look at all the evidence and think “flipping hell these are impressive.”

.  Therein lies the problem.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

Flipping heck
Someone running the club who takes a 2020/21 view of the world
Not a 1970s view of the world

One of the big reasons Lincoln have been so successful in past few seasons is a modern, go-ahead board made up of people who have a national and global view of the world and experience to back it up

If these three can't drag us into the 'modern' world then we may as well give up

I predict a seismic shift in attitude throughout the club and a 'revolution' in terms of marketing, PR and business acumen

It cannot be any worse than what we have suffered for too long

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Yes, that is the joke isn't it?! It still takes some believing, no matter how many times I have seen it.

Jeez, not half!  How old is this? He may think he's being tongue in cheek, but its horrific. Not only cringeworthy in his overly touchy way but what is the panning up from the lass in the office's breasts about? If it isn't a Partridgesque joke that they are all in on, she's got a claim! How sleazy is the guy!

Back to Stockwood... Here's a clip I've just watched from an interview during the first lockdown that I thought was a great listen.

It’s not revolutionary though. Last season we were the only club in the entire EFL that didn’t have this sort of ticketing system where fans could buy tickets online and pick their own seat themselves.
