Nothing against Macca the keeper but I think we need something different in terms of leadership. I would like to see someone kicking a few arses and getting some of them going.

You would think Ollie would just nominate Waterfall to be the man to bark out the orders to the outfield players regardless of whether he has to be the official captain. We need to start communicating, cajoling and kicking some backsides during the game and it is impossible for Macca to do that from between the sticks.

Whilst I too would prefer an outfield captain my experience from playing is that most teams have natural talkers and leaders whether or not they are captain. I cannot believe the likes of Waterfall and Rose are not adopting this role unless of course they are the “silent” type of player who leads by example. Given Waterfall was captain at Lincoln, under the brothers shouty, I would expect he is undertaking that role albeit not officially.

The armband means nothing, you need eleven leaders in the team.

Macca really cares about the side, club, fans and being part of the community and despite me not being a fan of keeper captains he’s far and away the best choice. Also he’s probably the only one who pretty much guaranteed to start every game if fit.

If we ever get a settled side more leaders will emerge and I can see why people would recommend Waterfall as he’s certainly one you’d follow into battle.

This thread has got me thinking, in my 40+ years of being a Town supporter we’ve had some excellent skippers.

The best ones have all led by example. Waters, Cunnington, Groves and Disley all spring to mind, ironically all attacking midfielders.

The most important factor is that they have to be present in almost every starting XI for them to have to the support. As it stands the most likely candidates would be Macca, Waterfall or Pollock. Now considering its not working with Macca leading the troops, that narrows it to 2. Now with the interest in Matty, would it be worth making him Captain as that may also benefit Town if any teams fancy making a bid for him as trying to take a teams Captain should come as a premium

Macca's about the only person guaranteed to be on the pitch for 90 mins!

Macca could be made 'club captain' with the big man Waterfall be the 'team captain'  simples.
