food for thought on here though.......any young strikers watching, just about every one of those caressed into the net with precision, technique over power.

It’s easy to forget how good Connell was that season, scoring something like 27 goals in possibly the worst all round Town side of all time.

His game was similar to that of Podge, intelligent off the ball movement and clinical finishing, but Connell also seemed to have something a little more spectacular in his locker. Genuine question to throw out there, which of those two were the better striker in their one season* for Town?

*I’m ignoring Connell’s brief return in 2014 - he’d gone by then.

Three for the old-timers on here.

Billy Cairns, Tommy Briggs and one, who rarely gets a
mention, Bob Crosbie.

Bob scored 35 goals in a season for Allenby Chilton's
promotion side.

Birtles was one of the easiest on the eye strikers his cross field passes to open up play were sumptuous and a couple of levels above the league town were in.

Those were the days when we could attract players of the quality we could only dream about now, Birtles, Whymark, Nicholl, Bonetti.

It was a great time to be a Town fan.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I dont think Podge would have scored half of those....and visa versa i dont think Connell would score half of Podges. Both gave us probably their own best career seasons, Podge scored more and ultimately helped deliver success so you would have to lean to him for that.

Livvo, played in Towns highest level ( league wise ),  So that much harder to create goals . Not a prolific scorer by numbers, but his hold up play, as a target man, helped Town to many goals. Whether it was his name on the score sheet or not. Legend

Surprised the general consensus seems to be to go with Reddy over Gary Jones around 2005-2007. Jones brought way more to the team than Reddy and outscored him in all comps in that 2005/06 playoff season.

Surprised Phil Jevons hasnt been mentioned, ill always remember his wonder strike against Liverpool. Class player, Unfortunately his career at Grimsby was cut short by
the antics of Ferneaux.

Didn't Gilligan play for town, I think he played for Swansea when I first saw town play in the early 80's with my dad.

anyone been to any of these matches, I must say even though we lost to Watford I was on the edge of my seat watching this.

Here one vs Man City for the promotion (apologies for posting in what is probably the wrong thread)

Yeah I remember Gilligan playing for Town, big powerful lad that lacked a bit of pace if I remember rightly.
