With Harvey Cartwright returning to 'ull, and Jake Eastwood still being under contract for another year, DA is more than likely going to be looking for either a new number 1, or someone who can challenge with Eastwood for the number 1 slot.

One name that comes to mind for me is Will Jääskeläinen. Currently playing at Woking, he has previously played under DA at Crewe (yes I know he was in their relegation team), but if we are looking for an experienced keeper, he has played over 165 games, over half of them for Crewe.......

............and best of all he is out of contract this summer.

Any other suggestions/ideas?

Wouldn't suprise me if we was in for Marcus Dewhurst... he was born in Hull and had a really good season for Wealdstone taking there POTY. Out of contract and played at every youth level for England.

Have we ever had a player with a name containing an umlaut? I can’t recall one. Clive should probably have had a cedilla on the c in his surname, but I doubt they would have wanted to feck around with that in Yorkshire when his career started.

I’m still waiting for that 6”7 Finnish goalkeeper, whatever happened to him?

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

Will Jaaskelainen (son of Jussi) played for Crewe at BP in 2019, where he was beaten by Harry Davis (son of Steve) and Joe Grayson (son of Simon). Another one of those same time tomorrow.

Cartwright didn’t convince me one bit and I’d be surprised if gets anywhere near the hull first team never mind ours , Eastwood although finished the season strongly isn’t good enough to play a possession based game with the keeper heavily involved at the start of the play. We need better who I don’t know but better

was in the same squad as Eastwood at Sheff U as well.
i will throw another name into the mix Lawrence Vigouroux, ex Orient, on a 3 year contract at Burnley, not played a minute. Did hear we were trying to get him in on loan in January

The two dots, in English, are called a diaresis. They are called an “umlaut” in German. They're part of the extended ASCII set, and on a Windows machine, you type a u with the diaresis by holding down the ALT-key and typing 0252 on the numeric keypad

ä : Alt + 0228.
ö : Alt + 0246.
ü : Alt + 0252.
ß : Alt + 0223.
Ä : Alt + 0196.
Ö : Alt + 0214.
Ü : Alt + 0220.

If we sign another French footballer, we might need to learn some kèy còmbínàtìóñs, if we're going to get his name completely accurate. Either that, or do a Slade and call him 'The Frenchman', with a curl of the lip at the time.

Marcus Dewhurst could be a decent shout, he should be in our range and did well at Wealdstone, I know he's recently been at Scunny and Boston also, how did he fare for these performances wise?

My friend who's a Boston season ticket holder really rated Dewhurst, said he was the best keeper they've had in ages.

I've always liked Corey Addai. Imposing keeper at 6ft 4".
Currently helping Crawley go from perennial strugglers to play off hopefuls. May be interested unless they get promoted of course

Not to write the lad off on the basis of one moment, but my main memory of him is his very half-hearted attempt at saving Glennon’s free-kick last season. I say “attempt”, I don’t think he even tried.

He was excellent at Boston and then Scunny knocked the stuffing out of him. I got talking to someone in the set-up at Sheff Utd who said they had to recall him because Musselwhite had coached so many bad habits into him and taken him so far backwards.

If all the Dad's came to watch it could be like a Masters Football special, more so with another boost from the Town bench in the form of Jamie Pollock (Dad of Mattie).  Jock Curran's Dad (Terry) would probably have to be manager as he's a bit older.

I've done a loose check but it doesn't appear that Crewe's Eddie Nolan is the son of any of the Nolan sisters.

He would a phenomenal signing for anyone at this level.  Was always too good for this level, I'd suspect he'll have got a decent enough deal at Burnley to put him out of our price range though.  Suppose going with just one 'keeper and chancing the back-up situation (kid on the bench, emergency loan if needed) would at least merge two wages into one.

Same for someone like Blackman, mentioned a few times on here.  I do like having two 'keepers battling it out and I think complacency is dangerous.  But the value you get from standout keeper is arguably worth it.

Danny Amos is of course famously the son of Professional Widow signer Tori Amos. Had a pint of mild with her in the Rutland before the Accrington game back in October. Nice girl. Big hands though.

Hadn't fully appreciated his record in a Donny shirt. 17 appearances, 13 wins, 3 draws and just the 1 defeat. 7 clean sheets. Donny were conceding 1.9 goals per game prior to his debut, and just 0.8 with him in net.

I've no idea how much of that is down to him, but he certainly seems to have been a steadying influence.

Lainton is 34, riddled with injuries and hasn't played a game since March last year. Flinders is 37 and also hasn't played since last March.

Think we've got to be trying a bit better than that.

I think Lainton was generally highly rated by Wrexham fans; he was just crippled by injury. Alas, they ended up with Christian (son of Andy) Dibble in his place toward the end of the 21/22 season, who was never good enough to have found himself playing in a National League play-off semi-final, as we exposed to great effect.

Actually you're right - I was getting them mixed up! However I still wouldn't want him as he was injury prone over a sustained period, again no thanks.

I would imagine the 2nd goalkeeper for next season will be a loan.

It will be (mildly) interesting to see what happens with Eastwood. I think he’s shown since coming back into the side that he’s more than capable as a backup, but his history suggests he lacks the psychological attributes to serve you consistently as a #1 over a long season.

One way or another I’d imagine it’s likely he stays in some capacity. Either he’s on good, first choice money and he’s difficult to shift, or he’s not and it makes sense to keep him as backup. I imagine the only scenario that might change that is if he’s adamant he wants to be first choice somewhere and pushes for a move, but realistically he’ll know that will mean dropping out of the league.

Won their Player of the Season.  I know they've not had a great season but that's some transformation for Max, considering 3 years ago he was getting ready to sign a contract with Conference North Boston United.

There’s a good number of players from that 21/22 season, signed either on the way down or from obscurity, that have really kicked on since then. Crocombe, Towler, Smith, Revan, Fox, Bell, and of course McAtee. Alright, some of those were perhaps youngsters who might have been expected to crack on, and I’m sure we all have limited memories of Seb Revan, but 7 players there who just two seasons on have been playing regularly at League One level or above. You could arguably add Efete, who has recently beaten Rangers in the SPL with Ross County.

Hurst has been taking a quiet panning of late for his recruitment in the summer, but he really did some stellar business that season - including several names not included there.

Hurst's recruitment in the NL was generally very good and had an extremely high success rate. He never once had a good transfer window in the FL with Town.

I just don't know who that says more about; Hurst or Town.

I suppose if we're giving credit where it's due, this January window was probably our best pound-for-pound window in the league for some time, at a particularly challenging time, even if it was a small sample size.

It would be interesting to see what his recruitment at Shrewsbury, Ipswich and the Scunts was like but as I'm exceptionally lazy I can't be bothered to look.

His recruitment at Shrewsbury worked wonders first time around, though a good chunk of his signings were players he'd signed here. Henderson, Toto, Nolan, Rodman, LJL, so perhaps not hugely original. He tried something similar at Ipswich, mind, where he was an absolute disaster.

I think he was just about turning things around at Scunny when he was effectively sacked for insubordination (refusing to sell players at Swann's behest), but they were in they early stages of becoming the basket case they are today, so I'm not sure you can read much more into that.

I think you'll learn a lot more about Hurst's ability to manage in the EFL long-term by this Autumn.

Wouldn't suprise me if we was in for Marcus Dewhurst... he was born in Hull and had a really good season for Wealdstone taking there POTY. Out of contract and played at every youth level for England.

Dewhurst didn't have a good time in a poor Scunny side, good to see he has kicked on, however we realistically need a time served and confident Number One next season.

He already had a 20+ goal scorer on the books but drunk him off when he did not sign straight away.Hurst said if he does not make his mind up soon he might find we don't want him.

So he left   leaving Ipswich very weak up top.

Arsenal have an abundance of really good young keepers, including some who have trained with the first team. With Arron Ramsdale likely to move on this summer, there's rumours of another Number 2 coming in, rather than promote current No. 3, Karl Hein (24). He's a regular international with Estonia, and probably unlikely to drop as far as League 2.

They also have Arthur Okonkwo (22), just finished a really good loan spell at Wrexham. In 22/23, he played 26 games for Crewe. He's out of contract in June.

James Hillson, 23, has trained with the first team squad this season, but unless he's promoted to No. 3, he's also likely to be available.

There's also Okonkwu's younger brother, Brian (20), and Noah Cooper, who spent some time on loan at Newcastle.

A major disadvantage is that they are all relatively young.

The advantage of course, is that they have all trained with first team squads, adept at playing out from the back.

All I’ve learned so far from the early transfer speculation is that we’re likely to sign an Egyptian called Brian.

Good player. Like Brian.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby

Isn’t it Bwian? And that centre forward from Honolulu, biggus dickus?

I’ll plump for Jonathan mitchel from Harrogate. Not a clue on this but he’s available on a free transfer!

That team was absolutely carried by Bogle who was in the form of his life. Danny Collins and Danny Andrew were excellent signings. Luke Summerfield wasn’t awful and Zak Mills was okay most of the time. He also signed Dean Henderson, Dan Jones and Kayden Jackson who have all done well in their careers but he never played them. Beyond that he signed James Berrett, Ashley Chambers, Andrew Boyce, Tom Bolarinwa, Sean McAllister, Dom Vose, Shaun Tuton and Scott Vernon (who wasn’t so bad but was replacing Amond) and none of them played in the FL for anyone after us cause they were various degrees of useless.

Take Bogle out of that side and it’s lower mid table at best.

WBJ - how do you get the umlauts (double dots over the "a" ) in Jaaskelaqinen on a laptop ? Is yours a German make ?

If you are using Microsoft Word go to the home page. Click on Insert and then go to Advanced Sysmbols. Click on it and a whole grid of accents and special letters appear. You may find the umlaut there. It has acute accents etc for French phrases.

I don't think he was that bad, he was that teams Kieran Green but 6 years later and he's still at a good level at the young age of 36. Credit to him.
