Big game this for us tonight. Perhaps not quite as precarious in the context the season, but shades of Barnet playing away at Accrington before they were due to play us at BP on the Saturday, all the way back in 2010. Accrington won that one; could certainly do with a Wrexham win tonight.

Quite fancy watching this, but not a massive fan of putting money into the coffers of rival clubs if I can help it. Given this is Wrexham, and all the overseas interest that comes with it, what are the chances of finding a reliable, dodgy stream?

Had a brief listen to one of the Wrexham podcasts yesterday morning (was on autoplay, I didn’t go looking for it). They were interviewing that Lord Cholmondeley toff who runs the place and wow, what a div. They usually put a bit of a front on about respecting all the opposition etc, but he was sat there going on about how every team treat Wrexham as a cup final, everyone “gives up” against their rivals but not them, and every team ends up with a record attendance when Wrexham roll into town. The cnuts are absolutely deluded.

Still hope they win tonight though, up the red dragons baby!

Yeh a strange one tonight cheering on Wrexham and Notts to keep the bottom two away from us

Oh heck do we have to cheer for Salford as well?    or can we take a draw in that one

Salford are 9 points above us; Colchester are 1. I think we have to be hoping for a Salford win at this point, as unnatural as that might feel.

Forest Green have a player suspended for tonight.  Their RB (I think) got sent off last Sat for 2 yellows.  I thought he would miss our game.  We should not have to clutch at straws such as this.  Still, every little bit helps our cause.

Wrexham not in great form away from home
Notts County have fallen away
Salford got battered on Saturday

On plus side
Wrexham seem to bounce back well
County are at home
Salford excellent at home

I'd take Sutton draw/winning and other two losing... can't be too greedy

I’ll take nothing less than Forest Green and Sutton defeats and both being given 15 point deductions for having the audacity to embroil us in a relegation battle.

Excellent stuff - in the meantime I get to watch QNK Quang Nam vs Viettel in Vietnam’s Night Wolf V-League 1. The home side playing some nice football - perhaps we should consider playing Quang Nam style.

Ha up the red dragons indeed.

Sounds very annoying but I reckon the bit about the attendances is pretty accurate.

Ironically we will be the only team who don't get a higher than average home attendance against Wrexham ,that's probably just because we can't though . Still 7255 announced or whatever .

Bit of a debate whether they will sell out their away allocation against us as they have not  yet - the usual cliche of it's a shithole why would we wanna go there etc on their forum .

Seems some's interest is dwindling slightly after a sticky spell , I wonder whether Parkinson survives if they don't go up ?

Yes - I was so concerned that I went to the Accrington v Barnet match myself  - did Billy Gee score the winner for Accrington?
Bizarrely, the Mighty Mariner was in one of the ends amongst a large contingent of Grimsby fans. I was next to the radio commentary.

As per Mappers’ earlier post, it looks as though the game will be streamed here:

http://www.fawanews.com/Forest%20Green%20vs%20Wrexham.html

Can’t be certain it will work until newer the time, but every other game I’ve checked on this site today seemed fine.

We are going to beat FGR comfortably on Saturday... and they will lose tonight. They had the luck of three games rolled into one against the Tranmere...well that's what the data says....

We need to stop worrying about Sutton and Forest Green (and to a lesser extent Colchester) and start figuring out how to WIN games ourselves. Otherwise it's non-league again.

Long way to go but whatever happens the winner of Saturdays game will stay up the loser will go down.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Notts County at this point is actually not as good as everybody thinks. Their offense is definitely good enough to challenge any top 10 L1 side. But their defensive positioning and play in general is non league. Their defense never left Vanarama. And so everyone in this league can beat them on a good day. Wouldnt rely on them too much. Wrexham on the other side...inconsistent as hell too

If ye think our defenders are bad watch Suttons second goal

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I don't know how they've done it but Notts County have somehow managed to assemble a back line that's even more shite than ours is this season. Imagine scoring 67 goals after 34 games and somehow only having a goal difference of +3 ffs.

If it stays like this it will be a flipping disaster.

I don’t hold much hope for Saturday so think our best hope is Colchester getting dragged in as well and hoping at least two of the three finish below us. It’s in our hands but we’ve got the hands of a Arab serial shoplifter.

Regrettably, I fear the time for dispatching Artell has passed. The point at the weekend seems to have calmed things a bit, but personally I think it’s utter madness to be going into a match of Saturday’s magnitude with a manager who has presided over our wretched home form.

I hope I’m wrong, but I think the decision to let him continue after the Donny game will be looked back on as one of historically bad proportions.

Usually sides that go down have bad owners who don’t care and haven’t invested in the club and supporters that are apathetic with dwindling crowds. That’s not us.

We’ve had poor recruitment, a manager who clearly worked hard but not smart (for once) followed by a right arrogant tw@t who ignored the biggest issue - our inability to defend 🤬

All down to Cheapside for an hour in his office then?

Something that's actually in our favour tonight while we're not playing is Sutton and Forest Green's defensive records, which are remarkably similar to our own. Like us they are both incredibly vulnerable to shipping goals, so fingers crossed they continue in that vein tonight.

I think the decision after the first Donny game is the one that will be looked back on as of historically bad proportions.

Not that i necessarily disagreed with it, but me and my 60 something mates all said the same thing - hope 1878 know what they are doing because history shows - and we are talking 50 years of it, more times than not the Boards of GTFC feck up with the replacement. Just about the only time we didn’t we appointed from in-house - Dave Booth.

Getting rather foggy at the New Lawn as the first-half draws to a close. It feels very much like our best hope tonight is Shaun Harvey pulling a Fenty and getting the match abandoned. Christ.

We’re not going to get relegated based on one evening of other teams results, beat FGR, Sutton & Colchester and I’m quite sure we’ll stay up

And your basing on us winning those games on what? That dopey Dave said we wont get relegated?

These next 3 games are probably the biggest in the clubs history , in the context of where we go in the future, both short and long term .

Christ, I’ve just looked a bit further ahead - the four games that follow are against sides currently placed 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th (though not in that order). One way or another, I think we’ll know our fate come the end of March.

I think the decision after the first Donny game is the one that will be looked back on as of historically bad proportions.

If you lose 7 out of 9 in a row and spend most of your interviews in the back half of that winless run sounding like you haven't got a flipping clue how to turn it round beyond baselessly speculating that results will turn around at some point you simply cannot complain about being sacked.

Now, none of that absolves Artell for presiding over what looks to be an underwhelming January transfer window and transforming our defence into one of historically inept proportions, or the board for appointing him in the first place, but Hurst can have zero complaints about getting his P45.

We could win them all and still go down and lose them all and still stay up. There have definitely been bigger, more definitive games.

It’s hard to ignore the fact that Hurst fked up the summer window. Also that Shrewsbury had tried to get him back. I’m no fan of Artell but this squad is not an improvement on last season or the season before.

Big deal, there aren't any good teams in this league and anyone can beat anyone. Massive Wrexham scraped an undeserved win against Sutton the other week, and are currently losing to FGR.

We on the other hand have beaten three of the current top 7 (Barrow, Crewe, Gillingham) this season, and drawn against another two of them (MK Dons, Mansfield).

I’m only going to Wimbledon - I’d long arranged things for the 2nd and 9th - when I did they looked like mundane fixtures  compared to Wrexham and Bradford at home coming up.

I feel the need to send the kids along as representatives…

How has me saying if we win 3 games against our rivals we’ll stay up turned into another episode of you screaming about Artell on an evening we’re not even playing a game?

Not saying we’ll win them, I’m saying if we win those we’ll be absolutely fine.

Win all three and we would be close to safety , lose all three and with the games after we could be close to down - confidence would be shot to whole new levels .

Time to get to the park, pack the place out and get behind the team. We need the three points in Saturday. The Mrs has been told to fill the car and we are coming.

And I said I didn’t disagree with it, but that was because I thought PH wouldn’t take any further and we would be perennial bottom half. But I also don’t think he would have taken us down.

Wrexham really don’t look like a team with presumably the fattest wage bill in the division. Pound-for-pound their away form is as bad as our home form.

I’m not optimistic about our future but many tonight are treating tonight’s results like there is only 3 games to go this season. I recall the period under Jolley when we hadn’t won for ages and Burnsy giving up a rough time on how would we stay up but Jolley was adamant we would, that things would change and they did.

I am sure there will be twists and turns every time fixtures involving the bottom four are involved so no point get in a frenzy just yet. Hopefully Wrexham will do their late goals trick and take something from the game. Both them and County are clearly domitheir respective matches so hopefully they will pull through and win.

Here’s hoping

If Hurst hadn’t been so stubborn Ryan Bennett would have signed. He wanted to but Hurst fell out with him so I’m told. He would have been so much better than what we have.

I think the understandable worry is that if results stay the same tonight, Forest Green have the ability to send us 2 points adrift of safety on Saturday, and given our home form, there’s some justifiable anxiety. Given what we’ve seen of our squad this season, I don’t think we’d have the resilience to cope with and recover from the psychological shock of that.

We are just under three halves away from a potentially very bleak situation.

Well, because we have 10 more games after that.
The bigger point is - you were of the vehement opinion that Hurst should go - not necessarily in disagreement with you there, but we bring in a manager who’s record since being appointed is worse and who talks far less sense, and you’re pro him.

It's already pretty bleak hence the 12 page thread and us all focusing on other teams .

I don't like to say it but I bet there is a fare proportion who hand on heart think we are already doomed .

They really need to give everyone some hope on Saturday that's for sure .

Forest Green look more likely to score an own goal than Wrexham scoring their own - their keeper's just had to keep out a dreadful defensive header which was flying into the bottom corner before it was tipped round the post.

Going back and looking up the run of games that got Hurst sacked, I still don't understand why he shat his pants and changed our set up to go with 5 at the back at Wrexham away. I know we had a few injuries for that game but it was such a cowardly thing to do simply because Rose and Eisa were unavailable. We'd been decent up until that point in the season and i'm certain that tactical capitulation and resulting hammering did some severe damage to the psyche of the whole squad.

We had years of Hurst and the style didn’t change, it got worse and was regularly a chore to watch. I’m basing my support of Artell based on what could be achieved longer term with a bit of patience, could be wrong, could be right.

What is staggering is how those who lost their heads about people criticising Hurst are the main voices in the torrent of abuse Artell receives online. Couldn’t even help themselves tonight on an evening where we’ve not even played and the games aren’t even bloody finished yet.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I didn't realise how excrement Wrexham had been lately - they've only scored 6 goals in their last 8 matches so it's no wonder they look like they awful with the ball tonight. What a dreadful return for their expensive overpaid strikeforce, Phil Parkinson is absolutely stealing a living. Even we've got 13 goals in our last 8 games!

County score 3-3

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Sutton now 3-3. I think they’re largely irrelevant mind, Forest Green are major concern, and getting more concerning with each round of game that goes by.

Don’t be silly. I’m not someone who ‘lost their head’ at people criticising Hurst - let’s be clear - he pretty much got himself sacked - and, I haven’t engaged in ‘online abuse’ of Artell. I’ve criticised him on this forum, yes. The results since he was appointed have been largely terrible, and worse than under Hurst. The man babbles a load of rambling gaslighting nonsense for the most part. You’re pro him nonetheless and that makes me laugh, which was my original point, which you’ve only really been able to respond to with red herrings and whataboutery.

It's literally just Wrexham having 80% non-threatening possession between the halfway line and Forest Green's penalty area, before some overpaid tosser felicitations their pass up and boots it out of play for a FGR goal kick or throw. We honestly look more of a goalscoring threat of late than Wrexham do in this one.

Yeah. I've been massively supportive of them but that is looking like an outright dereliction of duty because they either can't afford it due to a ballsed up negotiation of his contract, or they just couldn't bear to have been proved so badly wrong so quickly with their first managerial appointment despite it's drawn out process.

Mullin scores from the spot. You couldn’t write it. Town fans celebrating a Mullin penalty, but fúck me, I’m grateful for it tonight.

If it stays 1-1 the only way FGR could go above Town on Saturday is if they win by something like 6 goals, oh hang on.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Hopefully after that a TIRED and DEMORALISED Forest Green will rock up at BP on Saturday and we'll absolutely dismantle them with sexy free flowing Artellball.

I’ll absolutely take that; Forest Green looked alright tonight under the circumstances and I’m not sure Wrexham really deserved a point - despite overwhelming possession they never really did much with it.

That’s got to hurt for the Forest Green players and staff, but you know the team talk will now be all about righting tonight’s disappointment by beating us.

No doubt I feel better about Saturday than I did 10 minutes ago, but we remain in a right old pickle.

If we CAN win on Saturday though, 6 points clear, two games in hand and a meaningfully superior goal difference should, in theory, be a position from which we shouldn’t go down. Big, big game though. I just wish I had more trust in the players and manager.

Not a great night but could have been worse. Sutton still 4 points behind us but we have 3 games in hand. If we lose all three we probably don’t deserve to stay up. Let’s concentrate on our own form now. Win’s obviously will mean safety. Remember Salford were in terrible trouble when we beat them but now seem safe. It’s all to play for . So let’s get behind the team and get a few good results.
It’s still bloody horrible supporting town though.

We have to play those 3 teams around us, Colchester, FGR and Sutton. Win those and we have 9 precious points, our destiny is in our hands.

At the risk of appearing to be wearing rose tinted glasses, I cannot see how that can be seen as a bad night all round. It was in our hands before kick off and its still in our hands now. Even down to the fact that if one of the three managed to win you'd want it to be the team still four points below us having played three games more.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

We’ve played the fewest games in the division as of tonight. Sutton just the 4 points behind us now, but they have played 3 games more.

It doesn’t need pointing out of course, but we do need to start winning games, though - something we’ve failed to do in the first two calendar months of the year. Can we please start on Saturday, Town?

That goal for Wrexham was massive.
We are shite but we are still in a pretty decent position to stay up. Saturday is huge but even more so for Forest Green, they really need to win.

There are still plenty of games to go and Colchester look in as much trouble as us. Terrible that we find ourselves in this position but I'd rather be in ours than probably all of the other 3.

Wrexham had 19 shots (FGR 6)

Wrexham 5 on target (FGR 2)

Wrexham 75% possession

If this was a boxing match then Wrexham would clearly have won on points.  Some comfort for Saturday,

I mean if we could win a game I suppose it would all be moot, but I can't see how three of the bottom four sides all picking up points could be considered anything but bad news. Personally a good night for me would have been three entries in the loss column.

The problem is that we have only won once in 12 weeks, and that was against a truly shocking Salford.
Add to that  every other manager ( bar the cowleys) have got their teams winning and gaining points
And then add into the mix that I dont think there's that many of us who believe that Attell has the ability to do something similar

A win on Saturday puts us 6 points ahead of FGR, with two games in hand and a better goal difference. So a strong position to start the run in.  But they, and the others at the bottom are picking up points now.

The days of hoping the bottom two would gift us our survival are long gone.

We will only stay up if we win at least four more games. If we don't then we don't deserve to survive.

Looking at the table tonight on the positive side, we have the best chance of staying up.
2/3 games in hand on the other 3 teams in the mix, better goal difference and still to play them all.
On the negative side, myself and my mates said we looked like a relegation side before PH was sacked, and Christ knows, we sure know how to recognise one ! Artell seems to have made it worse, we have the worst form in the league and are shipping goals at home for fun.
I think we’ll scrape through by the skin of our teeth , I think there will be a lot of twists and turns.
I think it’s clear Artell is here for the season whether we like it or not.
I’m not sure how to start one but it would be interesting to see a poll on what everyone thinks our final position will be.

I don't want to be saying we are gone Ron at the end of the season that's for sure .

4 doesn't sound many but we have only won 6 all season , if we maintained our current rate we would only win 2-3 more  games from 14 and draw quite a few more, we have drawn so many , not lost too many  (now less games than Notts after their defeat tonight )  . We really need those wins though , ideally asap .

That Wrexham penalty was initially met with relief but it has now sunk in how important that could be for so many reasons. Village Green only have 12 games left and their run in is horrible. Win Saturday would be massive and probably sufficient to define our season. Had Village Green have won, win would have been absolutely essential, which adds all sorts of pressure in a home game. They have 27 points from 33 played. That is still some clawback to restore parity. 29 points would have felt way more squeaky bum going into that game. I'm not playing down Saturday, it's massive but the point is now a win would probably keep us up and hell aren't we due one.

But did we really look like a relegation side before PH was sacked? 5 defeats in the bad run were by the odd goal. At that point were we not a lower mid table side that needed a decent keeper. The run was similar to the one we had in the promotion season after a cracking start.

Shaun and Ben got a tune albeit Sutton at home under them was poor. All was still pointing to lower mid tabl at that point.  We’ve been far worse since Harrogate. Caught Salford in disarray and Notts starting to plummet after the the 5-5. Accy was decent and Saturday we played Hurst like tactics.

That equaliser from Wrexham was absolutely enormous.

If they had won it would only have taken them to beat us in the BP game and it would have been them favourites to stay up. The point against Morecambe would have looked like the worst of both worlds - not enough points wise but allowed Artell to limp on to defeat against FG. As it is that Morecambe result could still be just that but it's in the balance.

Look at the league table and it doesn't look too bad
Look at the current form table and it looks terrible especially with loads of games still left
We have got away with other teams losing for a very long time and it's starting to change and we don't have any momentum.
It's in our own hands but if someone overtakes us we'll be favourites for the drop.
Big decision at the weekend if things don't go our way although hopefully it's not a decision that needs making. We probably need to win around 4 games.
Fortunately the clocks change soon and we normally find form then

Where has the season gone wrong ?
PH is normally very prudent and shrewd in the transfer market , going for personality and work rate to build a hard working bonded squad . Not this time though ?

Here we are nearly in March and we’ve not addressed the GK problem ?

Half the squad either can’t be arsed or are injured or ill ?

I’m presuming the FA Cup money is going on ground improvements ?

Torched on the ground (essential) poor performing players (the summer) and paying off  our previous management team I would suggest .

It's long gone you would have thought , when are the accounts out for 22/23?

From his interview when he went to Shrewsbury, it was clear that they tried to get him in the summer. Make of that what you will.

Add that to the Cup money not being spent on the squad and we are where we are.

I think some of it probably was , on the lengthy contracts dished out over 2-3 seasons - Vernam,Rose,Rodgers and Pyke etc doubt they came cheap however debatable some of their impacts have been.

Wrexham had 19 shots (FGR 6)

Wrexham 5 on target (FGR 2)

Wrexham 75% possession

If this was a boxing match then Wrexham would clearly have won on points.  Some comfort for Saturday,

FGR were winning for 90 minutes, so you'd expect stats like that.

People from the outside looking in will see our games in hand and GD & would probably say we’ve a decent chance of staying up (cannot believe it’s come to this).

Based on PPG we probably need 4 or 5 wins in the last 14 games to stay up, if 3 of those are against the bottom 4 then it’ll almost certainly seal it. However, we absolutely have to start picking those points up now, Saturday is an absolute must win, not just for the points but the mentality of the squad.

I’d last night wasn’t the worst set of results, if you told me that one of the teams that played had won, I’d have preferred it to be Sutton than the others. We really need Colchester to be sucked into the scrap as opposed to 3 of us playing for 1 spot.

Things could look extremely different on Saturday, hopefully in our favour.

I know the owners have backed the manager but I think he will be gone if we lose on Sat. They wouldn’t just let us sink without giving it a chance surely . That said , I hope we get the desperately needed win . Realistically it all points to a draw and ‘as you were’

My big worry is the players, they dont look like a group who have any belief in themselves to drag us out of this. I hope he sticks with harry at right back and the 2 up top.

It is squeaky bum time now for sure. Never thought this season would end in a relegation scrap. I think even most of the bookmakers had us safely placed in the table before kick-off of the first game.
I still believe that we have a good chance to avoid relegation, provided that the team's effort shown in the last match continues. If everything goes wrong for Artell, we have Shaun and Ben who demonstrated their ability to earn points for the team earlier in the season, so in the worst-case scenario, they can take over until the end of the season and hopefully do enough to keep us up.

Its more than squeaky bum time . And its for next season as much as this that worries me. Its clear that we do not have the money to compete at the top end of div 2 let alone div 1..I aplaud JS & AP for spending their money to get rid of fenty and can  clearly run and make money in business  but football is no ordanary business. Anyone who thinks they can run a football club and make money enough to keep going forward needs their bumps felt.. It needs money pelting in to it just to stand still. And that will not happen so we will just keep going backwards on the pitch apart from the odd game or two. The future looks a bit grim and the mighty mariners are just mariners all at sea a rough one at that

On the pitch it's difficult to compete at the top end but there are anomalies - Crewe ,Morecambe ,Harrogate and Barrow are far out performing their budgets you would suspect this season . We no doubt are underperforming badly against the budget we have . I think it was more the recruitment in hindsight was just really really bad - Eastwood , Wilson , Vernam , Pyke , Rodgers etc have all not played many minutes or in Rodgers case been poor .

If we want to be bigger hitters ,further investment is undoubtedly needed  for the longer term though.

I personally don’t see both Town going down and Artell still being here is a likely scenario, but to answer your question there are very few managers who have won promotion from the National League in their first season in non-league. I can’t name any off the top of my head.

If we go down we go down, at least the fans can hold their hands up and say this time it definitely wasn’t anything to do with us.

Not sure I can manage another summer of interviews with signings saying “massive club at this level, should be a league club really”. The thought knocks me ill 🤢

In fairness though there are examples of teams not splashing the cash in the top 12 this season. Crewe, Walsall, Newport, Morecambe spring to mind as teams still in with a shot of promotion. Barrow & Harrogate have likely spent above their means but I’d hazard a guess that they’re not far off our budget either.

I don’t think our current budget isn’t on that can’t put us in that mix, but we’ve got the goalkeeper & defensive positions so badly wrong this season & we’re being brutally punished for it most weeks.

But the owners repeatedly say we are not here to make the numbers up. They seem honourable men, so they  must have a plan to get us to compete. To be fair, had we spent the summer kitty more wisely things wouldn't have got like this.

No.

I feel that Artell will go as part of this end of season post-mortem if we stay up. If he stays, I am really worried that we will be in this situation in October. I have no faith that he is the man to take us forward.

There is a counter argument that we probably had a decentish budget but yet are still languishing towards the bottom three .

At the time I said it would be great if the cup money went on something(s) tangible - improved disabled facilities , a small capacity increase and a slight reduction in season ticket prices;  'giving something back ' to the fans rather than splashing likely a decent proportion of that money on player salaries & paying off a manager .

I know people want the money to go on 'the pitch on Saturday ' but when things transpire the way they have it seems a shame the money has been essentially erroded with nothing meanigful or any sort of minor legacy coming out of it .

Sure many will disagree, just my point of view

Challinor had managed a good 500 games in non-league before he won promotion from the National League with Hartlepool. Luke Williams on the other hand is a good shout (County were well coined, however).

The aim from the top is year on year improvement. We definitely haven't improved this season and you can't even call it a minor bump that needs a couple of minor tweaks to kick on next season.

Cup runs shouldn't be budgeted for, so we should be aiming to improve irrespective of football fortune. Let's assume the cup run generated £1.5m. £500k extra into a playing budget with £1m on tangible benefits should still make for a great platform to kick on from.

We've fallen on our arsé, and whatever cup money went on the budget has been well and truly pïsséd up the wall, Danny Rose excepted.

Charles Vernam on a 3 year deal baffled me at the time. He's done his hamstring again apparently!

A management team to keep an eye on is Adam Hinshelwood and his staff who have just been appointed as the new York management team after a few years at Worthing.

Certainly a management team to keep an eye on for the future in my opinion.

Going by what JS said last week I think he has Saturday and Tuesday to turn things around.

I think there has to be a conditional element to that. Another absolute spanking akin to Walsall, Stockport or Donny and BP is going to be an absolute cauldron. I don’t think he could survive that. And he’s survived longer than most would have, already.

He's lost the fans, and winning them back is going to be hard.

To be relegated :

Colchester. 23/10
Town   16/5
Fgr.     1/5
Sutton 1/9

To win Saturday :
Town 19/20 Draw. 5/2. Fgr13/5

Colchester 3/1. Draw. 13/5.  Stockport.  17/20

Tranmere  10/11.  Draw. 23/10.  Sutton  14/5

This from the bookies appears to put us in control of our own fate. How different it is when  3oclock on Saturday comes along is anyone’s guess. It’s  all well and good having these rousing calls from the owners and DA but unless something drastically changes, then I dread to think where we are going to end up. Am sorry but there’s no way we should even be in this predicament.

Which bookie is offering Town to win at that price? Despite our home record I would definitely be having some of that

Even if we stay up , there’s no way Artell should be here after May 1st . ST sales will take a nosedive as he’s lost the vast majority of people in BP , maybe the only exception JS . Get rid and I think that single move would give everybody hope again for next season.

It depends what happens between now and the end of the season. We could win every game and they will sell like hotcakes in the summer. He might be sacked at 5pm. Between those extremes like a continuum of possibilities.

If we do suddenly start to win more plenty of people will flip back to supporting the manager.

The only thing that could possibly save him is an improbable winning run from now until the end of the season. I don’t think anyone has warmed to him at all (not necessarily a bad thing given the job-life expectancy of a manager these days). A lot of fans I’ve spoken to are starting to get very disengaged with the club at the minute and it’d be a ST renewal sales disaster if he stayed on as it stands.

I don’t envy the owners. If we stay up, do they keep him, even though fans don’t like him or if we don’t, how much will we lose in revenue?

This is true, I suspect that a lot of the fan base myself included would support  Mickey Mouse as the manager if we won a few games. That said, as you point out, I think it will be very hard for David Artell to survive a loss on Saturday.I would roll the dice if we lost on Saturday, we are well past hardluck stories

If things turn around and we're playing some good stuff and getting some decent results by the end of the season, he'll surely stay? I can't believe that anybody wouldn't back the incumbent manager at the start of the next season if we end the season on the up. Jolley had the backing of the fans following the big escape that particular season in spite of the fact that there had been such dross before that late (and slightly flukey) run of victories. Actually, possibly not a good example, that, given what we saw at the start of the following season!

If we sneak away from relegation and avoid it as much by luck as judgement then he can go. If he actually gets us playing reasonably to win some results, I think he'll definitely be staying.

We just need to stay up by hook or by crook to hopefully rebuild a much better squad for next season, whoever ends up being in charge. Can't believe how much Hurst crapped the bed with his summer transfer window.

Just for the record, all those saying Artell has lost the fans, there was a rousing chant of "David Artells Black n white army" on Saturday.
Personally, I'm disappointed in him.
I expected to see the same sort of football Crewe played under his stewardship, but wether its because he's been out of the game for 2 years or our players really are that excrement, he's done nothing to change our fortunes, we still have no shape, no style and defined system of play.
Honestly, he's a busted flush imo.

The problem facing the club is if they keep him , revenue from STs will be massively down . Then if he starts as badly next season as he’s done this year he’ll have to be sacked and paid off . Lose lose situation.
There’s no way he’s going to inspire a late season winning run , there’s 0% evidence so far that he can do this . We all know it’s going to be a close run thing to avoid disaster.
He has to go .

I don't know what to think, we just look way off being able to win a game of football. Arftell won't keep us up, the players won't either as they're not good enough.

We go with what we have got, as supposed to making things worse.  We are not in control of what happens to the manager and the only thing we may have an affect on is a positive result given the majority show support and park aside any differences etc etc and back everyone at the club.

Contrary to how I come across I agree with the above post as we have to use every positive strand of our powers as a unified fan base to help the club stay up .  It’s so important it’s almost like a life support system.  The end of the season is a different matter if we stay up .

Like others for some reason this time around the rallying calls are just annoying me probably because they shouldn't be needed. 1878 have learned nothing or very little from Fenty and his failings and its that what will cost ST sales. Unlike JF many of the 6k sth believed in these guys now hopefully it's just a case of they've made a mistake and they put it right and keep us onside. In my opinion another abject ho.me defeat Saturday will see the gloves come off I will go to support the team more in Hooe than expectation and if I get another Donny display what do you expect reaction wise? It's upto Artell and the players they have to step up and be better.

A defeat full stop will precipitate very ugly scenes on Saturday,  even if we are "unlucky."

Just what do long suffering fans have to do to get a proper Football league club that isn't always one step away from non league?

Just how many season tickets do we have to sell, how many 6k plus attendances do we need and how many thousands of fans need to trek all over the country just to get a team that can not be in a relegation battle?

It is unfathomable as like everybody else I thought 99% of the problems started and ended with Fenty.

Exactly mate I've put more money in the last 3 years than ever before I have tried to support everything the Club has done on and off the field. However my goal of seeing us at least challenge in league 2 looks miles away and I'm gutted it shouldn't be this hard.

6k attendances it's interesting that we don't appear to be a viable league club even with attendances that are substantially higher than many at this level.

Where does that leave us as we cannot realistically increase attendances by much at BP yet , bearing in mind that actual seat sales are higher than turnout, and on the other hand have no plans to develop a new stadium.

Medium to long term I can't see where this is is going nomatter how this season pans out

I think the problem is that the endless struggle has become tedious. Initially you enjoy the fight and all of the rallying calls but this is supposed to be a hobby and fun and for me, it is rapidly losing its enjoyment. I will be there on Saturday, but am I looking forward to it… Of course, not it will be nerve racking and I have a little faith in a team that has not managed to win this year.
As much as it sickens me, nobody would be surprised by heavy defeat anymore. As a fan base, we really deserve better, particularly the away support which I find staggering, the loyalty of the away support is off the scale for me , simply brilliant
Fingers crossed for Saturday, I think nobody cares how we win, it is just time to win like a normal football club, utm

A solid first 15 with no goals conceded will be the most important factor. If we don’t and follow recent home trends it’ll be a bloodbath

It will be serious redevelopment at some point if we are staying at BP because it's likely that the lifespan of at least 1 stand probably 2 will come to an end within the next 10 years .
