When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

If this is grant supported and a value hotel this is quite an astute piece of development. I've tried to book hotels for business and mid week games and unless you want to stay at the St James or something where price does not match value then it can be a challenge.

Also some may think a venue for a 1,000 people is an odd choice but looking at the diversity of businesses in the are and no doubt the despite to attract more it seems like there is a lack of this type of thing too.

Great idea, any ideas of the timescale? Also will have to negotiate the gestapo that work on the gate 😉

Anything which could help to regenerate the docks would be a really good thing. Let's hope it goes ahead and brings some money into the town.

You can imagine some away fans fancying a night out in Cleethorpes during the warmer months might be happy to stay there as it's not too far from the ground (assuming the Premier Inns/Travelodges are full!).

Good news, but have they secured any funding yet?

Id love to know the timescale that Shutes has put on this. I reckon nothing will happen, if ever, for at least 5 years

Could well be right. With interest rates ridiculously high at present (because the BoE is stupidly desperate to drive the country into recession), unless Shutes & Co are self-funding, it will cost them a fortune to borrow the money for construction.

It might be worth sitting on it for a year or two as the BoE will have no option but to cut rates once the recession begins. It just depends how quickly they drop them. Not quickly enough, is my guess.

A few years ago Shutes wanted to build a new stadium on the docks.  Maybe he thinks he is more likely to get permission for that if a hotel is already in place.
