Has Crocombe managed to get to the bottom of his very concerning cramp issue he has?!

Do we have the wage budget for Bennett, or the desire to give Crocombe a shirt unchallenged as first choice, and hope he signs sometime before the season starts? Probably not.

I don't think I remember any posts last year saying Crocombe was doing great, or that renewing him was the right thing given what we know about the pre-season talks. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I don't think anyone would have done much different from Hurst on that front.

Okay, I’ll bite on this one.

It’s not about hindsight and it’s Hurst’s job to know enough to get these decisions right. By all means let Crocombe go, if this doesn’t weaken a team you are trying to improve.

Maybe Crocombe didn’t want to stay, maybe Hurst had another keeper lined up that fell through, but the fact is Eastwood isn’t performing as well for us this season as Crocrombe did last. And I’m including Crocombe’s dip in form in that.

Hopefully Eastwood will come good (and I’m not suggesting he’s been shocking or owt) but, imho, we’d have a couple or three more points on the board this season had Crocombe been between the sticks.

I wanted us to keep Crocombe. Cramp issues aside, a very good keeper at this level. He seems to have established himself in the division above, so he can't be too bad.

Didn't he want a 2 year contract and we only offered him 1'year?

If anyone is interested, there were 3 Bennetts playing, all at the same time.

From memory, Crocombe took a good number of games before he won the crowd over.  His first seven games brought just four points.  He came in during that shitty mid-season run and didn't look to be a significant upgrade on McKeown.  Once he settled in and with a settled backline he began to look an improvement.

Eastwood looked absolutely fine and indeed an upgrade in the early games of the season, especially with a settled and first choice back-line ahead of him.  He's wobbled a bit since but the whole defence has looked shaky.

Still too early to say if he's an improvement or not.  He's also playing at a level higher than when Crocombe first came into the team.  Crocombe, much like Eastwood I'm going to guess, is a confidence player and suffered highs and lows with his form whilst here.  I dare say he'll do the same at Burton and is riding the crest of a wave at the minute, good on him.

I asked a question would we be stronger not if Hurst was right or wrong.

I answered it myself Bennett is better than Waterfall and Crocombe is better than what we have.

Not everything is a dig at Hurst.

I'm no common sewer, but I thought what a difference our defence would be with Ryan Bennett.

He hardly made one bad pass all evening.

Surely still worth pursuing.

Thought Bennett was allowed so much time he nearly went to sleep.

Could not really assess whether his performance was good or just never challenged. His side did go 2-0 down however and lost.

Crocombe kicking distribution was much improved

Oh right. My mistake. I didn't realise we were doing that.

Would we be better with John Stones, and Aaron Ramsdale? Hell yeah.
