He had scouted him 5 times in person, as Dad played for the YMCA. He was offered a contract but had to turn it down due to other work commitments. We never did get to find out if he would have become part of Shanks 'best ever' team 'since the War' (remember he was only talking about the previous 9 years though)

It would be interesting to know when he said it . If it was during his Liverpool days then it would be a great compliment. Saying that if you Google a few more Shankly quotes he pretty much said the same everywhere he went 😂 He was a great manager that even back in those days knew how to work with the press
