Just seen this on the BBC.

Grimsby currently sits joint 13th for the top 20 most environmental and sustainable clubs in the EFL.

Credit where it is due. Great achievement and shows Jason's commitment is certainly showing.

I had a look at that, and as impressive as it is to be in the top 20 for anything governance related (all good PR) one of the criteria for sustainability scoring is serving  'plant based food', at which point I dismissed the whole thing as nonsense.

Plant based food is sustainable, so don't get your point, unless it's a dig at those "weirdo vegans".

Chip on your shoulder?  I've always respected vegetarians and vegans right to do as they bloody want, I just wish they would extend meat eaters the same courtesy.

And no, plant based food in it's entirety is not sustainable, it's a fallacy.  Locally grown food, whether meaty or veggy, certainly is.  That's the point being made.  If we're serving chips made from potatoes off the wolds and fish from the docks rather than chicken from Thailand and smashed  Avocados with 12,000 food miles on them then that should be the measure, not whether it is plant based.

Honest John was ahead of his time and we didn't know it. Changing floodlight bulbs himself (less carbon footprint don't yer know) using equipment till it died (sustainable) and keeping costs down was the mantra he lived by.

Fair play to the FGR Chairman who believes in this stuff but the rest I suspect are just ticking boxes.

Not a fact.. mixed farming methods have been proven in many independent studies to be far more sustainable, but that fact does not support the current narrative, being literally, shoved down our throats..

No animals in farming, far more man made pesticides and fertlisers have to be used..

Certainly.  It's not a mutually exclusive situation.

Yes far more sustainable on a local level, unfortunately it doesn’t feed the world though - humanity isn’t just hooked on carbon it’s hooked on nitrogen as well; the artificial fertiliser isn’t just a high carbon intensity product to manufacture, there massive environmental impacts from it as well.

Anyway, when did sustainability get you 3 points…etc

Luckily, 70-odd percent of the atmosphere is nitrogen so we're not going to run sort of the stuff. It will just take energy to extract it for use.
