Hursty must be on glue. I love the fact he wants a win and no doubt the psychological boost that brings going into Sunday but I’d have done a raffle among the youth lads for tonight…

Several changes away from what the team for Brighton will be, but I'm surprised he's not rested a few more players tonight than he has.

JT said Glennon was having a run on the pitch, so he must be fit to have travelled.

I'd expect it's just rotation. He was asked by Matt Dean yesterday about Amos and Morris missing from Saturday's squad and now they're both starting today. Presume Glennon and Hunt are just getting the same treatment today.

Think 4 or 5 of those subs, plus Glennon and maybe Hunt could be in the starting 11 on Sunday.

I wasn’t expecting to see Green in the line up tonight, he was struggling Saturday (looked like cramp) he’s a good player he is and a battler. Let’s hope we get the win tonight.

I doubt hunt will be - not played a single minute since being subbed during his calamity performance against Carlisle and not in the squad tonight. Wasn't one of the 9 subs used during the previous two games.

Hunt is one of the few players we have who can get his foot on the ball and string together quality passes. On a good pitch in a game we’re likely to see little of the ball, those assets will be absolutely vital if we’re to have any chance whatsoever & I’d be surprised if he didn’t start

Hunt has to start at Brighton. Probably not a popular statement but he was my mom v Southampton and has the ability to receive the ball in midfield, not panic and retain possession which will be vital against a team with their tails up .

Gritts co coms
That's us copulated

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Green's having a stormer here, winning absolutely everything in midfield and inches away with an outrageous outside the foot effort earlier.

After we were knocked out by Wimbledon we went on a run and were still in with a sniff going into the last week until we lost at Tranmere. The blessing of that was that that result eventually kept Scunny out of the automatic promotion spots and they lost in the play off semi.

Good first half for us with a 1-0 lead which we deserved. It's a practice match for Brighton, I hope. All the team played well and Efete took his goal well.

Wondering why Taylor isn't jumping for most of the balls aimed up to him.

Good first half. Much better then recent league performances. Very even though, both sides having plenty of chances and the ball. Efete popping up out of knowhere grabbing the goal.

Lloyd, Taylor and Green have been especially impressive so far.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Why on earth are the commentators harping on about Town putting challenges in? I know it would be a disaster for any Town player to get sent off but personally I want them to compete.

Good half by Town, the balance with Taylor back and Green in the engine room makes a lot of difference, Lloyd needs signing permanently IMHO.

Very good half. With an injection of height and physicality, we're able to compete with a very tall side. Lloyd has enjoyed playing off a target man and has been effective.

My only concern is the threat of a red card, there are niggly battles that we need to manage.

Lloyd is brilliant. Our best player in my opinion. Oozes class. For a small lad he puts himself about and what an assist.
Efete also having a very good game.

Apart from 2 of their forward players they look awful. We've been so comfortable for 80% of that half.

Seem to be mostly in control while not taking our chances as much as we should, gone into the break with a lead though so just need more of the same second half. Lloyd showing some good touches and link up play, he bought the ball down for the pass to Efete perfectly.

Taylor something we needed for a game like this with Sutton a lot like the usual NL sides which employ big and tall players that get physical and wind players up. Aljiboye looks like he needs testing for steroids lol.

It's an absolute nonsense from Tondeur. Try playing someone like Sutton without getting into any individual battles and see how you get on!

Would try and sign Lloyd up as soon as we can if he's interested. Full of energy and got something about him, what a good 45 minutes of football, hope we can build on it in the 2nd half and not just sit back. Hursty tell them they are playing for their places on Sunday!

Lloyd will be a very good player at this level. Shows what a bit of confidence and match fitness can do for a player. Decent first half, good performances all over. Amos possibly the only player to lose his individual battle but they look the most dangerous down their right

not sure about oozing class Luke but, he certainly is a fighter and a team player. he reminds me of Mcatee in many ways. and i love the way that he battles and seems to be one of those players that will run through a brick wall.

could he be the Mcatee replacement for next season?

Hunt is one of the few players we have who can get his foot on the ball and string together quality passes. On a good pitch in a game we’re likely to see little of the ball, those assets will be absolutely vital if we’re to have any chance whatsoever & I’d be surprised if he didn’t start

I'm not disagreeing with your reasoning of why he should play, just that I don't think Hurst will start him given his reaction to hunts performance and the post match interview.

On the other hand maybe its mind games from Hurst and he wants a reaction from him when he starts him on Sunday!

Hunt is a work in progress, though his progression to date is enough to keep Morris out I reckon.

Crocombe has had very little to do so far, stood still in cold and wet conditions for most of the time.

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets cramp.

Clifton was ahead of the Sutton player who subtly nudged him in the back which the ref totally missed. In a foot race like that it really doesn't take much to put someone on the floor and the ref needs to pay more attention rather than just chalking it up as a shoulder to shoulder type incident which wouldn't have been a foul.

If Sutton were not as hopeless as they are they'd have got back into this. We've looked leggy in the second half and we have capable players on the bench we aren't using. I get we have a big cup game coming up but this is just sub phobia as usual.

This referee is an embarrassment

edit: clearly a bunch of you are blind, clifton cleaned out on a counter attack after knocking the ball past the defender and the ref gives town a throw and there's no booking?

Marvellous! Hurst didn’t make subs as he knows what he’s doing and what was needed to win the game……can some of you understand that, he’ll still be thinking playoffs, win the two games we have on most teams and we’re five points off the playoffs…….you just never know…..

Great team performance, well done lads UTM

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Back-to-back wins for a fantastic victory. MOM has to be Lloyd and Taylor. Harry put in a Harry shift and all the rest of the team played their part. It looks like no injuries so Hursty has his hands full sorting a team out for Brighton.

Had we let one in or even worse, lost the game you'd all be losing your minds.

We edged a game against a crap team and you're talking like we beat top of the league. All I saw is Hurst way more worried about a cup game than anything else having good players on the bench he never planned to use. It's okay to be critical if we win, you don't have to overreact positively or negatively depending on the result.

Great opening 20-25 minutes, lost a bit of rhythm and reason for the rest of the game in a sense of controlling the flow and tempo but when you win 1-0 away from home on a Tuesday night I think that is all forgiven.

Taylor showed exactly why he is so important to us up there and I think Lloyd complements him superbly. I did wonder whether giving McAtee some minutes behind the two of them might have made the final 15 minutes more problematic for Sutton but as I said, all can be forgiven and forgotten when you end up winning.

I watched the game on the Sutton stream with their commentators, who were a bit inept, called us Crawley at one point and other basic errors but at the final whistle they did wish Grimsby all the best for Sunday and professed their support for us in the match. Thought that was a nice touch, especially considering we'd just beaten them, flying the flag in support of a fellow L2 club in a historic feat.

The crap team that have lost 2 of their last 15 matches, to Orient & Salford, but no how to get results in this league. Once a team wins a game it’s hard to argue with a Manager’s decisions, 3 points, relegation no longer a topic for discussion and a great day out to come on Sunday.

As I often say always more confident in Hursty in away games as he often gets these type of results. Just pleased we won again.

A well fought, very hard won game against some very big and physical.players who managed to foul Harry so many times with very little punishment.

Taylor and Lloyd made a big difference in holding up clearances.

Crampy Crocombe managed to stay away from the ref, and the defence were gigantic tonight.

Not pretty in the conditions but 3 points very well earned !

Very good defensive performance tonight, and to see Efete who was playing as a right sided wingback somehow get himself into a centre forward position to score a very good goal was brilliant. Taylor MoM held the ball up so well.

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

Incredible as it seems a late play off push is not inconceivable.  Spirit in the camp must be very high, and I hope Sunday goes as well as possible to keep our confidence intact and you just never know.

This weekend is going to be fantastic though with all the build up, the media interest and the all the quarter finals.

I'm just so pleased that we shoved it up them in their own back yard. Their shithousery , blatant cheating, time-wasting and attempts to get our lads booked at BP earlier in the year p1ssed me off....  Well done Town.... oh... and up yours Sutton  !!!

With my realistic head on I think the play offs are too far away but a top half finish and a positive goal difference seems a realistic target and given the midseason form would be a good return. We’d have all taken winning a cup and midtable at the start of the season wouldn’t we?

Calm down?! Thats more excitable than my post. I said its not inconceivable which is hardly hyperbolic. Maybe I did (I can't remember) but like most people I live in the present tense. 3 weeks ago is different to today.

The Sutton Judo and Karate team somehow managed to get away with only 4 yellows, but in all fairness shout out to the ref - he mostly let the game happen and didn’t overreact to anything (including a few of our tastier challenges….)

If we had a bit more confidence and composure we could easily have won that by 3 goals, we created lots of good chances and played some decent football at times. Taylor, Lloyd and Clifton were almost a front 3 at times and it seemed like their various abilities complemented and combined to create something greater than the sum of its parts- my only criticism there is that all 3 seem to be goal providers not goal scorers. But let’s not open up the whole ‘20+ a season’ debate again haha

Amazed we played so many first teamers, not surprised the more technical guys were wrapped up in cotton wool though as we’ll need their quality for the rare occasions we have possession on Sunday. Only 1 sub in 90 mins though must be some kind of record this season.

Sutton have some quality guys in the middle and up top, they seem to be bulked  out with large bully boys though. I can see how it’s effective in L2, but they just didn’t seem up for it tonight. Clifton and others got into a couple of their heads early doors and I think we won the mental battle.

7/9 points in a week. I’ll take that. I’ll take it so much I’ve gone and slapped a bet on town to finish 7th. And to win the cup.

Our away form has been play off level all season . Still struggling at home and unless that is turned around somehow we are mid table.

Paul Hurst has been talking about rotating the team and yet we still turned out a good team with some other key players being rested. I have nothing but admiration for all the lads and the coaching staff. This league is a grind and with the cup games they will end up playing nearly 60 games. They may not always play as well as we’d all like, but they always put in a shift and are committed. I just love the grit of these lads.
This was a great three points and we can now go to Brighton knowing we are in good fettle. Hopefully, we will give them a good game and the club will get fantastic media coverage. UTM

Really fúcking enjoyed that. I suspect their management team, like us on here, expected a weak team or at least a team shying away from physical battles. Another psychological battle in the bag for El General.

Can he snaffle another one on Sunday? Huge ask, but who knows? Who knows?

We could get promoted twice and win the fa cup in 12 months.

Really enjoyed that game. It was a proper battle but had a good flow to it as the ref didn't blow up for every little thing - thought he was arguably the best ref we've had this season.

Having Taylor in the team makes such a big difference. That being said, starting him would worry me on sunday with VAR - he does tend to land an elbow on a defender at least once a game which you can get away with at league 2.

Absolutely - I really think that if we can become a little bit more consistent, we will be competing right near the top of the league next season - the current promotion teams (Orient, Stevenage, Carlisle) aren't that incredible as football teams, they're just very consistent!

Equally, Taylor gets knocked about all the time so it can work the other way. I wouldn’t be worried at all about VAR and Taylor.

We seemed to finally combine both the rough stuff ( physicality/winning 1st and 2nd balls/the aerial game) with the pretty stuff (good ball playing and expansive movement/flowing counters) last night, that looks like a winning formula in any division to me- stylish footy coupled with grit.  There wan't much messing around at the back either, our passing was generally positive and had purpose.

There is nothing quite like being at a distant away game in midweek and winning.

How about being at a distant away game on a Sunday and winning?

Because I love being positive, just look at Sutton Uniteds' home form over the last 10 matches.  That win was pretty epic!
