It would work out cheaper for a bigger plane per passenger

I think you need to look at a boring 737 or Airbus 320/319. The numbers might make it viable.

I think the only thing stopping it would be the airport being closed for the evening.
Think the last flights around 10pm at Humberside

Please get a bigger plane after what happened last year with that Cardiff player from France.

It was over 4 years ago and the size of the of plane wasn't the issue.

Thinking about the fares RyanAir/Easyjet charge surely it cannot cost the earth to charter a plane that size. £25/£30 each way perperson plus a bus £5 each way, say £100 including a ticket. I think it's something Town should look at as I feel sure they would fill at least 2 planes if not more.

Two of us approached an amateur flyer friend to see about him flying us to Exeter away. He was up for it for just the cost of the fuel but enquiries showed he would have needed a commercial pilot's licence.

We were looking to go from Full Sutton airfield to Newton Abbot racecourse and then by taxi to Exeter.

All so we could be first on the 'Just Back' thread.

Try this one. Prices seem a lot more acceptable. They do London to Glasgow for £45 which is a lot further than Grimsby to Sarfamptun

Can actually get a return flight from Humberside to Southampton. Fly out on Tuesday, returning on Thursday. £399 return with KLM.
1 hour from Humberside to Amsterdam, 4 hour layover in Amsterdam, then 1 hour from Amsterdam to Southampton.

Given the match is the 5th round of the cup, which we haven't been in for years, I would have thought the club or supporters' Trust should look into this.

Yep.

Best they can do is 68 seater and, as the airport is shut after the match, you’d have to sort accommodation out down there and come back in the morning.

Didn’t get a price but there’s a request form on the website if anyone’s interested and they got back to me in about half an hour.

So I presume someone asked if the airport could be kept open a little later. I’m sure it used to be, if the Amsterdam flight was running late.

So the business went on it’s bottom then expected the government to help out?

Sounds like a great business plan. Surprised more companies don’t do it

Government can provide funding assistance to keep it operating. Allowing a northern airport to close hardly fits with the Leveling Up agenda does it?

Yes it was a private company but there was plenty that the government COULD have done. I'm not debating whether or not they should have done, just that the then PM said she would do everything she could to keep it open and didn't.

HUY used to stay open until 2am on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning as it had two Cyprus flights with late departures. They could apply for an extension with only an hours notice given to  the CAA.

Yes there may be additional costs for staff etc, as previously mentioned, but the biggest cost is most likely to be landing fees at Southampton Airport, which they can charge what they want for one-off flights. Ryanair can charge low prices because they strike deals for years with airports who then charge them reduced landing fees etc
