Hadn’t realised/cared at the time but watching last night made me appreciate how lucky we got at the back end of last season. Wrexham lost their first choice keeper and one of their first choice centre halves just before the final few games - I think if they’re playing it’s unlikely we score 4 headers. Then you look at us having McAtee and essentially a new Ben Fox coming back into a squad without any major injuries. Efete was out but that worked in our favour, Scannell too but he hadn’t really contributed much.

Notts should’ve had a second pen straight after their first when Smith hand balled a shot exactly the same as Cropper had. Holohan’s shot hit a defender on the line and ricocheted in rather than out - if he’s 3/4 inches to the right that gets blocked. Manny was offside for the second and probably should’ve been flagged.

Fine, fine margins.

It’s what makes it all the more remarkable for me.

You can keep reeling them off too; Callum Roberts, Notts County’s answer to John McAtee, going off injured in the first half because he’d been given too much painkiller and couldn’t feel his foot, the County defender’s bizarre decision to push Clifton in the back, leading to the free-kick we got our equaliser from, all the way through to our kryptonite Hudlin going off in the final.

It felt like absolutely everything that happened, even the things that felt like huge setbacks at the time, worked in our favour. As if all of the bad luck we’ve suffered over the years was suddenly repaid in one, huge lump sum.

I struggle to comprehend it really. Just so many things that would have been remarkable enough in isolation, all seemingly coming together in unison. Things that, if any one of them hadn’t happened, could have brought the whole thing down like a house of cards. The footballing equivalent of winning the lottery. The odds are off the scale.

Some of the best fúcking memories of my life without a shadow of a doubt.

I would wait until all episodes are available Les.
They are bringing out roughly 1/2 week and with about 6-8 left, it could take you into two months of subscription.

Episode 18, Do or Die, featuring your very own Grimsby Town, airs tomorrow. However they skin the story, it’s going to make glorious viewing.

“Taylor. Can Grimsby hit back quickly here? Clifton. McAtee. He’s had that early goal disallowed. Fox had made the run beyond him…MCATEE!! Great goal! Oh, that’s specia!”

“Cropper. Does get great distance on it..AS EXPECTED!! THEY’VE DONE IT!!…LUKE WATERFALL!!..REMARKABLE!”.

I’ve watched it back so many times I know the words off by heart.

It’s on Disney’s subscription service Disney+. You can get it on most Smart TVs or though a Sky Box (£7.99 a month, but you can cancel immediately if you wish).
