Good stuff. One appearance for us will put him ahead of our previous Andy Smith on the all time list.

Yeah we beat Sheffield United in the league cup that night resulting in the victorious trip to Anfield. Well that’s my preferred memory of that day.

Born on 9/11. Signing for Town on loan. Conspiracy theorists (*) might argue that Smith’s whole life has involved false flag operations. * not me

I'm certainly curious to see how Smith and Towler compare. Two young pros from Championship teams. If like to think there is a chance of getting Smith back next season if he's good enough.

Im feeling somewhat underwhelmed too, I thinl that is just the Hurst effect rubbing off on me though, of they are any good or show any creativity he will soon coach that out of them.

Neither of whom belong to us and probably never will while we are in tier 5. Loan deals have their benefits but the rug can be pulled at the whim of the parent club.

How highly did you rate Hunt & Towler before you saw them play? Always think you cannot judge any players, whether you believe they are good or bad, until you’ve seen them play for Town in a number of games. Over the years we all will have seen players produce the opposite to what we expect, to look world beaters in their first few games and then prove to be crap and players who start poorly and end up being club stalwarts. Let’s hope these guys are more of the latter.

I remember Stuart Campbell (not on a yellow card) managed to provoke Gus Uhlenbeek (already booked) into having a silly little tussle over nothing that saw them both booked and Uhlenbeek sent off. Fantastic sh!thousery from a GTFC player that we sadly lack now.

Bold decision by Hurst to give the young centre back his debut at right back but I thought he was exceptional in the circumstances.

Barely put a foot wrong so very well done to the lad. You could tell he wasn't overly sure about the position and didn't get forward too much but he looked very capable (more so than Revan, for instance).

Perfect game for the new lads as we were mostly on the front foot but the two new lads both looked mobile, assured and both passed the ball well.
Amos played some great passes and gives us more going forward than Crookes. He has a hell of a leap for a shortish guy as well.

I may have remembered this wrong but they had a little scuffle, Campbell got a yellow and trotted off, Uhlenbeek got a yellow and then a red, but that was his first yellow. There was some case of mistaken identity in there, which is why there was a struggle to get Uhlenbeek off the pitch.

I agree. I though AS had a slightly nervous start for the first 10 mins, which was understandable, but grew into the game. By the second half he was full of confidence and IMO a very good debut.

I have to be honest, I don’t recall any obvious nervousness from the lad, and I thought he started the game confidently with some excellent touches and did a very good job of getting Pearson out of a pickle after he’d dallied on the ball. Looks a good prospect to me.

The defence was very shaky at the start with 2 debutants playing but the 3 times they got through in the first few minutes had nothing to do with Smith.

Maybe nervous wasn't the right word, more like feeling his feet with a set of new players . I don't know what experience he had at Hull but even a 4,500 crowd can be a tad daunting for a lad who may only have played in reserve games with just 3 or 4 hundred there. He certainly handled himself well and think he will be a great asset for the second half of our season.

He was at Salford first half of the season, so yeah, not used to playing in front of many fans. As for Amos; in the first half he played a great long ball down the wing that put someone in behind their defence and I thought ooh, that's promising. He made several more decisive and crisp passes as the game went on. Impressive debut seeing as he hasn't had a lot of game time. Could be an astute signing, but we'll have to see how he performs when we play a team that exerts more pressure.

Amos fired a few fast passes forward - and with both feet, which was encouraging. Looked weaker in the air than Crookes, but a bit quicker. You can't have everything in a 5th level defender so that's fair enough. I think Crookes will have a fight on his hands to get his place back.

There was one cross that he drilled low across the box at pace which caught everyone by surprise.

I thought both Amos and Smith had solid debuts. Altrincham are probably the least dangerous side I've seen this season so far, so I'm sure they'll get tougher tests in the weeks ahead but if they improve as they go with their teammates then we may have added some worthwhile players into the mix.

I thought both had great debuts. As mentioned above, almost the perfect scenario to make your debut considering 50% of your defence are new and in a side that's struggling for form. Not tested massively defensively and afforded plenty of time to get bedded in.
Smith's last ditch intervention was much needed as that could have gone badly wrong and seen us facing a side that were wasting time and defended deep when 1-0 down, never mind if they had taken an early lead.
I actually thought initially we lined up with a back three and Amos and Maguire-Drew as wing-backs in a four man midfield, soon changed to a quite obvious back four though. Smith looked fairly quick and I do wonder if he'll be moved inside when Efete is back. I like both Waterfall and Pearson but do think we look suspect to balls clipped over the top with them as a pair.
